- Labia stays the night with Matt and appals Diane when she answers his phone. Eyebrows are raised when he takes her to the studio but Merc is more concerned with ideas for new shows - such as sea monsters and succubi - as 'Pucks' is flagging. In fact Elliot Salad,the network head,takes Carol out for a drink and tells her that Merc will be dropped from the network after receiving his Man of the Year award and that she is top of the list to replace him. Beverly has another date with Rob,which is much more successful than the first,and they end up kissing.—don @ minifie-1
- Given Puck's terrible ratings and the whole network programming's poor performance, Merc realizes that his job, and probably most of his team, are in danger when network board chairman Elliot Salad announces a surprise visit from New York. In fact he demands a private lunch with Carol to offer her Merc's seat. Labia meanwhile sleeps at Matt's, makes sure his wife Diane finds out and accompanies him to the studio. Sean clearly still his feelings for Beverly bus refuses to ask her to stop dating Rob, who shows her his 'house painting' on Hollywood homes is as impressive as artistic.—KGF Vissers
- Matt wakes up in bed with Labia staring at him.
Everyone at the studio reads an article about the fact that Merc not only passed on the No. 1 talking dog show, but also let it be sold to a rival network. It says hes not long for the job.
At the studio, Sean and Beverly dont talk about the fact she was on a date. Finally, he apologizes for disturbing her and asks how it was. He decides he doesnt want to talk about it, but asks who it was with.
As someone who knows him, Beverly knows hes going to get weirder before he gets less weird. She suggests he step away.
At the studio, Merc comes into his meeting and makes light of the meeting. He asks where their vampire or zombie show is. Carol reminds him they were sticking to his mandate to only do dramas ripped from the headlines. Carol tells him they have great stuff lined up. Merc is focused on the supernatural and his team throws out werewolves, mermen, succubi, pixies, etc.
Sean apologizes to Beverly for reacting poorly, since hes the one whos been saying theres no going back. She apologizes for answering her phone and he suggests she just turn it off. She calls it good advice for next time.
Which gets Sean thinking about the fact there might be a next time, which he hadnt considered. He starts hyperventilating again.
Carol makes calls to see if anyone wants to develop a show on gargoyles. Shes interrupted by a call from the network president from New York. He wants to meet with her later, alone. And he suggests she not tell Merc.
Sean knocks on Matts dressing room door and finds Labia inside. He calls security, but Matt tells him she came in with him. He was drunk last night, but he assumes he must have called her. He runs into Sean and Beverly who cannot believe what hes done. Beverly hopes to be there when he explains it to his ex-wife.
Back in their office, they marvel at what a self-sabotager Matt is. Their assistant has a message from Rob about his date with Beverly. Sean gets nervous and twitchy again. Beverly excuses herself. Sean cant bring himself to make eye contact, focusing furiously on his keyboard.
Beverly leaves then comes back, she had to check if he was really typing or pretending. Pretending, he says.
At home, Matt tries to break things off with Labia, who promises that shell always be waiting, even if hes an old fat, bald former TV star.
Beverly calls Sean, telling him that if he doesnt want her to go on her date, she wont. But shell want to know why. If he thinks theres a chance, shell cancel in a heartbeat.
He tells her to go, although it doesnt look like he means it.
Beverly gets a call from Carol as she drives to her date. She tells her about her meeting with the network president, Elliot Salad.
He arrives and Beverly wants to know how hes dressed. Cmon, Salad? Dressed?
Matt collects Labias things from his apartment. His phone rings and she answers. She introduces herself to Matts ex. He runs and swats the phone out of her hand, but its too late.
Elliot tells Carol that that his daughter loves the talking dog show. He knows Carol developed it. She defends Merc for passing on it. Elliot tells her the decision has been made: Mercs out.
Back on their date, in the same restaurant, Beverly holds it together better. He offers to show her a house mid-paint and shes oddly interested.
Carol tries to defend Merc, but Elliot stops her. He compares the firing to the circle of life. They plan to wait to tell him after his Man of the Year thing. She asks who they might go with. Weve got a very short list, and your names at the top of it, he tells her.
Rob takes Beverly to a house and shows her gorgeous faux marble he painted. Shes bowled over. He thinks shes sweet and kisses her.
She marvels at coming to the country a few months ago, happily married with no doubts. But she likes how shes feeling now.
