Quotes

  • ESU Leader : All right, we got a hostage situation. Place is a private storage facility for high-end art. We got three guys inside. We're looking at a minimum of nine hostages. We believe one of the bad guys is posing as a hostage.

Carrie Wells : Which one? You know, posing?

    ESU Leader : Indeterminate.

Carrie Wells : "Indeterminate." That's a... that's a tough word. What do you think, Al?

Al Burns : I think we better make some determinations soon or we could lose a lot of people. You do your homework?

    Carrie Wells : Oh, yeah.

Al Burns : Here we go.

  • Al Burns : [finishing a training exercise]  Not bad. We beat our old record by 25 seconds.

Carrie Wells : What do we get, a gold star in our homework books or something?

Al Burns : Ah, you probably filled yours up already.

Carrie Wells : Okay, seriously, though, don't you ever question the value of these things? I mean, honestly, when was the last time we had a hostage standoff in Queens?

  • Carrie Wells : All right, let's just go over it one more time.

Al Burns : I told you, it was a phone call. Guy calling himself Deputy something-or-other says he wants to see us at One City Towers.

Carrie Wells : Please tell me you took care of those parking tickets.

Al Burns : [patting his coat pocket]  I brought the receipts right here just in case.

  • Eliot Delson : Welcome to the Major Crimes section of the NYPD.

Al Burns : I've heard of it.

    Carrie Wells : You have?

    Al Burns : You haven't?

Carrie Wells : Not like I read "Police and Security News" every morning with my Corn Flakes.

Al Burns : Maybe you should.

  • Eliot Delson : Have either of you heard of Ari Sonnenland?

Carrie Wells : I have. He's a developer, a big one. Sunny Meadows Complex in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the Sterling Tower in the Navy Yards, and his brother is a beekeeper. I have no idea how I know that. Yes, I do.

Eliot Delson : Well, what you don't know is that his daughter was kidnapped this morning in Central Park. We're not sure, but we believe this might not be an isolated incident, but one in a series of kidnappings targeting affluent families on the East Coast.

Al Burns : Central Park. Last I checked, we don't have one of those in Queens.

  • Eliot Delson : I promised you answers. Now, I, uh... I'm not sure what your setup is like in Queens, but...

Al Burns : [following him into another room]  Whew. I know guys who work Major Crimes. They never described anything like this. What'd you do, raid a Best Buy?

  • Al Burns : I don't recall agreeing to all this.

Carrie Wells : Oh, I do. We didn't.

Jay Lee : Wouldn't matter. Eliot's not an asker, he's a teller. In fact, he told me to catch you guys up on the Sonnenland kidnapping. How you doing? I'm Jay. In addition, I'm gonna be your guide to the wonders of the operations center. Just 'cause I'm Asian, they assume I know all about computers and stuff.

Al Burns : Which you don't.

Jay Lee : No, actually I do. Worked for a while for a little company in Redmond; Internet security, scareware. But I missed New York.

  • Carrie Wells : I don't trust the dad.

Al Burns : That's okay; he doesn't trust us. You okay with all this? I mean, of all cases, right? She's practically the same age your sister Rachel was.

Carrie Wells : What are the odds, right? I'm fine. I'll be more fine when we bring Lara home, but I am, I'm fine.

  • Carrie Wells : Oh, my god. These are the Westport kidnappers.

Al Burns : How do you know?

Carrie Wells : I recognize the tattoo. Jo, how long has this guy been dead?

Joanne Webster : Oh, at least five days, maybe a week.

Al Burns : If we haven't been dealing with these guys, who have we been dealing with?

Carrie Wells : Someone who's gone to an awful lot of trouble to make us think that we have.

    [remembering earlier conversations]

Carrie Wells : Is that the man you did business with in Westport?

Jack Paulson : Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's him. I'd know that voice anywhere./You want my advice? Pay the money and be done with it.

    Carrie Wells : Jack Paulson.

  • Carrie Wells : Murray's over at Paulson's office. He's gone. No sign of Lara.

Al Burns : You think he was in this from the beginning?

Carrie Wells : I don't know how I missed it. It's the perfect plan; two birds with one stone. Paulson takes out the Westport kidnappers and collects $5 million from Sonnenland.

Al Burns : Three birds. He also gets back at the cops who ruined his career.

Carrie Wells : The thing is, he's got to know, we find the bodies, we figure it out.

Al Burns : So, bye-bye, Jack.

  • Eliot Delson : I do have something I'd like to show you.

[leading them over to a pair of desks with nameplates for them]

Eliot Delson : What do you think? Too close? I could move them apart a little. Although, from what I understand, you two are used to close quarters.

Carrie Wells : Wow. You're quite amazing, you know that? What-what was all this, another test? Save the little girl, get the fancy new job?

Eliot Delson : Hardly. I put your transfers through two days ago.

Carrie Wells : You can't do that. Can... he?

Eliot Delson : Look... I'm hiring you to work on the highest profile crimes in the greatest city on Earth.

Al Burns : And we report to you?

Eliot Delson : Only to me, and hardly even that. I'm mostly here to cover your backs.

Carrie Wells : While we cover your ass?

Eliot Delson : Just so you know, about seventeen people way up the food chain all called and demanded I back you off Ari Sonnenland. Did I? So just take the damn job.

    [indicating Jay and Murray]

Eliot Delson : Besides, those two like working with you. And that is a first.

Carrie Wells : What about Webster?

    Eliot Delson : Really?

    [sighing]

Eliot Delson : Fine. But if she calls me Ellie again, I'm... I'm gonna ship her off to Ronkonkoma. Wherever the hell that is.

  • Al Burns : Look, I know I've been acting like this is some kind of dream job, but if it's not your dream...

Carrie Wells : I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but... I wanna stay.

    Al Burns : You do?

Carrie Wells : Mm-hmm. Listen, when you dragged me back into all this in Queens, you told me I was ready to be a cop again.

Al Burns : I hadn't seen you in nine years; I would have said anything.

Carrie Wells : You were right. I am ready. Lara showed me that. I didn't become a cop just to solve my sister's murder. I became a cop because she was murdered. I wanted to keep people from suffering like I did.

    Al Burns : And Rachel?

Carrie Wells : Well, you were right about that, too. I got her.

Al Burns : Wow, I can't remember when I've been so right.

    Carrie Wells : I can't remember, either.
