The Australian Screen Editors’ Guild has added a new category to include online and new content streams to its awards night and announced the nominees for the 2012 Ase Awards.
The announcement:
The Australian Screen Editors’ (Ase) Guild is dedicated to the pursuit and recognition of excellence in screen editing across all its forms. It aims to highlight the often invisible art of editing to the public while supporting the people who construct our screen narratives frame by frame.
In 2012 the Ase expanded its activities by opening a new Committee in Brisbane, growing the membership base already established in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, and expanding its year-round program of seminars, screenings, masterclasses, training days and mentorships. This year the Ase also celebrated its 10th anniversary of Accreditation, the highest honour the Guild can bestow on an editor.

The lineup for the 39th Telluride Film Festival has been announced, with the guest programming slot this year being given to Geoff Dyer. His program, along with the Pordenone, Medallion, and Spotlight sections, contain one of the best aspects of the Telluride festival: side-by-side programming of new films with old. Tucked away at the bottom is the program we're most excited about: short films by neglected Hollywood director Jean Negulesco.
Show
The Act Of Killing (Joshua Oppenheimer, Denmark)
Amour (Michael Haneke, Austria)
At Any Price (Ramin Bahrani, Us)
The Attack (Ziad Doueiri, Lebanon/France)

The Central Park Five (Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, David McMahon, Us)
Everyday (Michael Winterbottom, UK)
Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach, Us)
The Gatekeepers (Dror Moreh, Israel)
Ginger And Rosa (Sally Potter, UK)

Something nice happened to us while we were preparing the schedule for Ebertfest 2012, which plays April 25-29 at the Virginia Theater (above) in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. We'd invited Patton Oswalt to attend with his "Big Fan. He agreed and went one additional step: "I'd like to personally choose a film to show to the students, and discuss it." That sounded to me like a splendid idea, embodying the spirit of this festival, which combines the love of good films with volunteerism. This is a rare festival where no business takes place. No films are bought or sold. No deals are signed. It's simplicity itself: We join in a classic 1920 palace, 1,600 of us, and watch a film as it should be seen, on a vast screen with perfect sound. Then we talk about them afterwards. The festival and the theater come to us through the work of countless volunteers from the University and the community of Champaign-Urbana.
