- Ben leaps into a priest who has been called to assist a family in crisis on Halloween night. As he delves into mysterious and inexplicable events, he's forced to muster all his resources as a scientist before time runs out.
- Ben leaps into the body of a post-Depression era priest, who has been called on to perform an exorcism on a young girl who has apparently been possessed by a demon on Halloween night. Now, Ben must decide whether to rely on his belief in science, or choose to believe in the supernatural.—Gislef
- Ben finds himself on a doorstep ringing a bell, as trick or treaters walk by. A woman and her maid open the door, tell "Father Davenport" that it's gotten worse, and bring him in. Inside the woman, Lola Gray, tells Ben that they tried a local priest but had to call Ben in from Baltimore. Lola introduces the maid, Magda Pardo, and says that she's Lola, and Daisy is her daughter and has gotten worse.
Once Lola and Magda step away to start going to Daisy's room, Addison appears and deliberately scares Ben, wishing him a happy Halloween. They take Ben to the dining room and Charles Gray, Daisy's father, introduces himself. Her brother Percival is with him. Their mother comes in and introduces herself as Contessa Tessa Gray, while Addison tells Ben that Ziggy thinks Ben is there to perform an exorcism, but figures that can't be right. Ben asks what the condition of the afflicted is, and Lola says that he should see himself. Ben asks for a water closet, and Addison briefs him on how in the original timeline, Davenport tried to exorcise the demon from Daisy and he failed, and she died six minute after midnight. Ben points out that he's not religious, and Addison says that Ben should play along.
Lola takes Ben to Daisy's room, where there's a stench that Lola says is the demon's stench, and says it started six weeks ago. Daisy is tied to the bed, and calls to Lola. Daisy looks at Ben and says that he's an angel, and Addison looks on. She walks him through the three steps: he commands the demon to reveal himself, then they fight for the soul of the possessed, and the demon leaves if the exorcist wins. Lola says that the last priest didn't make it through the first step.
After Lola leaves and Ben begins speaking from Davenport's Bible. Addison glitches out, and as Ben continues, a demon emerges from Daisy's body and confronts Ben.
Addison leaves the imaging chamber and finds Ian working on the computers. She complains that the system kicked her out, and Ian reports that something is interfering with the signal and all they can do is track Ben's location and monitor his vitals, but they can't hear or see into the past. He doesn't know why, but jokingly suggests that it's the demon and says that they won't know anything until he runs diagnostics.
Ben looks up from cowering and finds the demon gone. Magda opens the door and tells Ben that the doctor is there. Doctor Felix Watts comes in and introduces himself, and administers a sedative. He says that the family insists on a supernatural event when it's an illness of a mind, and suggests that Daisy need a lobotomy, and asks to remove the rope so Daisy can sleep in peace. Daisy talks about Joan of Arc and the cathedral in France that her aunt took her to, and talks about how Charles lost faith when he lost his job in the Depression. She says that three weeks ago she began to see terrible things like the wallpaper moving, and Charles said God turned His back on them. Daisy says that her father was wrong, and God sent Ben to help her. She tells Ben that she intends to be faithful unto death.
Ben leaves the room and Tessa is waiting, and says that Daisy reminds her of herself when she was young. She thanks Ben for coming there. Ben goes downstairs and joins Percival and Charles. Percival offers Ben a drink and he declines. Lola is in the next room playing the piano, and Ben joins her and she stops when she sees him watching her. She talks about how she trained to be a singer, but then got pregnant with Daisy. She wonders if her getting pregnant when she got pregnant out of wedlock, and Ben assures her it isn't. They hear something moving above and Daisy shrieking, and run upstairs. The bedroom door is locked, and they see a shadow moving beneath the shadow. Charles comes in, and they see Tessa dead, atop an armoire wardrobe, her eyes bleeding.
Watts call for an ambulance, and the men take Tessa's body away. The doctor talks to Ben privately, and admits that he can't think of a rational answer. Ben says that the symptoms started three weeks ago, and Watts says that he can't think of any other explanation. Despite there, Ben says that the Grays are counting on him to help Daisy.
Addison checks around and then tells Ian that the problems are confined to the imaging chamber, and she sees Ian monitoring Ben's biosignals. Ian tells Addison that Ben is freaking out, checks the Internet, and shows Addison a photo of the dead Tessa that a reporter took. The story says that Daisy was alone and didn't have the normal strength to lift Tessa onto the armoire. Addison tells Ian to find a way to get the imaging chamber, and Ian says they will.
Ben goes to the study and drinks Percival's gin. He chokes, and notices stacks of encyclopedia. Percival says that he's a door to door encyclopedia salesman, and Ben asks him what happened three weeks ago. The uncle says that on the night of Daisy's birthday, Charles and Tessa got into an argument about money. Percival says Charles has been angry after losing his job. Charles comes in and snaps at Percival, saying he invested all of his money and they lost it in the Crash. Ben breaks it up and Magda comes in, saying Daisy is unwell again and Lola is requesting Ben.
Ben goes up to the bedroom with Magda, and Lola says that Daisy was starting to calm down. Magda leads Lola out, and Daisy starts speaking in her voice and the demon's voice. Ben says that the demon isn't real, and the demon says that his end is nigh. When Ben starts hallucinating, Magda comes in and he imagines that her eyes are bleeding. He tells her to get Watts, and when she goes the demon chuckles and the Armoire doors open on their own. Ben holds up Davenport's crucifix cross as a demon runs out of the armoire and the wall starts bulging. When he sees it, Ben screams.
The lights flicker, and then everything goes back to normal. Daisy is sleeping, and Ben notices a newspaper under the bed. He pulls it out and finds a rotting fish inside. Watts comes in and Ben says that someone is faking the stench. Magda comes in and says that she did, but insists that the demon is real and the demon, a dybbuk, is part of her Jewish tradition and fish repel demons. She tells the two men that she liked Tessa, who let her keep her job after the Crash. Tessa had Daisy inherit all of her money in her new will, and says that Daisy loved Tessa and would never hurt her.
In the present, Addison tells Jenn that she never wanted to get married until she met Ben. She worries that Ben may get stuck in time. Jenn tells Addison that it's okay to be worried, confused, and sometimes angry, but says that she knows they'll get Ben back. She advises Addison not to lose hope, and tells her to have a little faith.
Ben goes to a room alone and calls to Addison, but gets no response. When he gets no answer, he talks to Davenport in a mirror about how he can't find a rational explanation and may have to perform an exorcism. He realizes that Davenport is a man of faith, and figures he'll have to be open to something he doesn't understands. He puts on raiments, takes a drink, goes to Daisy's room, and commands the demon to reveal itself.
The demon in Daisy chuckles, and then levitates above the bed as Ben reads from the Bible in Latin. Daisy drops back on to the bed and then sits up, still chuckling. The demon emerges from Daisy's body, and lunges at Ben, who falls backward onto the floor and passes out.
Ben dreams that he's with Addison, who is laying on a bed. They kiss and Addison says that she loves him. Ben figures that it isn't real and wonders if he's dead, and realizes that the gin was drugged and the soup they gave Daisy is also drugged, which means someone in the family is a psychopathic murderer. He figures that one of them killed Tessa and is going to kill Daisy at 12:06. Ben works through the suspects, and works out Charles and Percival. Charles and Percival stands to inherit Tessa's money if Daisy dies, and Ben figures that one of them used a hidden doorway to get into the locked bedroom and kill Tessa. He and Addison kiss, and Addison tells Ben that it's almost midnight and he has to go. She says that it isn't real.
Ben wakes up from his drug-induced slumber and tells Daisy to hang on. He then checks the walls and finds the hidden doorway inside the armoire, leading to the bedroom next door. The others come in and Ben tells them that there's been some progress, and he has to make a call. He goes downstairs and tries to make a call, and Magda appears and says that the line has been dead since Ben arrived. Magda relates the argument on the night of the birthday, and how Tessa told Charles that she won't let him rely on her money. He said that he doesn't want her money, and Tessa told him that she'll make sure he doesn't get a penny.
Magda says that the bedroom next to Daisy's is Percival's, and Ben figures that Percival is the killer since Charles was cut out of Tessa's will. He confirms that Magda had him go to a horticulturist, and checks the encyclopedias, to confirm that Percival had Magda get jimson weed, based on the description. Jimsonweed causes hallucinations and is deadly in large doses, and Ben figures that Percival will give Daisy the final, fatal dose at 12:06.
Ben and Magda go to Daisy and Ben tells her that Percival killed Tessa, and Daisy insists that he didn't do it. She prefers believing the demon killed Tessa to her uncle, and Ben asks her to help him prove Percival is the killer.
In the study, the family hear Daisy scream. Charles, Lola, and Percival run up and find Ben praying rites over Daisy's body. They take the body down to the dining table and cover it with a cloth, and Ben performs the last rites when the constable arrives. Ben says that the Holy Spirit is there, and bringing them a message the demon is still there. He commands the demon to reveal itself, and Daisy sits up. Ben then asks the demon what it wants, and Daisy says that someone there killed Daisy and points at Percival. Percival breaks and Ben commands him to confess. Percival says that he did it for Lola, and the two of them were going to run away. Lola says that she's never had anything on her terms, and she wanted the chance to have her own dreams.
Percival begs Ben for forgiveness, and Ben says that he doesn't have the authority. Daisy pulls the cloth off of her head and forgives Percival and Lola. Lola is shocked, and Daisy says that she believes in forgiveness. The constable takes Lola and Percival away in handcuffs, and Charles and Daisy hug.
In the present, Ian confirms via the computer that Ben succeeded and Daisy didn't die. They tell Addison, who hugs them. A message comes in for Ian who says that they figured out where the imaging chamber interference was coming from.
Ben and Daisy go to the girl's bedroom, and they thank each other for helping to see things in a different perspective. Daisy says that she going to donate the inheritance money to Goodwill, to help people wiped out by the Crash. She says that she figures God sent Ben as an angel, and first saw his real face. She figures that he's leaving, and wishes him a safe trip.
Janis appears to Ben and says that she had to cut off the signal from Quantum Leap HQ to reach him. Before she can explain further, Ben leaps and finds himself in a camper's body. Three campers run by, and one calls him "Ben". Ben runs after them as older boys chase them, and he runs with the first three. They get to a car and drive off, and one of the girls, Stacy, confirms that the other one, Leah, slashed their pursuers' cars.
