- Lincoln and his friends get ready for the school dance. Clyde's dads are particularly excited that this might be the night Clyde has the ultimate meet-cute they've been waiting for, while Lincoln keeps striking out with his crush, Charlie.
- Today is the day of the biggest school dance of the year, the Kangaroo Hop. As everybody sets up Lincoln's house for the dance, Liam films a documentary about the dance. After Liam interviews Rusty and Charlie on camera, Lincoln watches them hanging out together. Clyde thinks he is having a tough situation since Lincoln has a crush on Charlie, and Charlie is already in a relationship with Rusty. However, Lincoln denies it, claiming that it's nice to be nothing more than friends with her. Meanwhile, Liam interviews Lincoln's oldest sister, Lori, on camera. Lori discusses how she became queen of the Kangaroo Hop the last time she attended and swore an oath to the crown. Mrs. Loud barges in midway through the interview and discusses how she also attended the Kangaroo Hop, but when she ran for dance queen, she did not win but became the runner-up. Meanwhile, Lincoln tries to get Charlie's attention, and when he does, he impresses her. However, by the time it's time for him to get interviewed, he does not mention Charlie once, still trying to hide that he has a crush on her. After Lincoln gets interviewed, Clyde is next to be interviewed. He talks about how his two fathers, Howard and Harold, set up a date for him, namely Marnie Steppenberg, the daughter of their chiropractor. When Liam offers to talk to Clyde's fathers, Clyde tries to avoid letting him talk to them, but Liam ends up interviewing them anyway. While he interviews them, they discuss that the reason they set up a date for Clyde was that they needed to record a milestone in a photo album they made dedicated to all of Clyde's accomplishments that he has made throughout his life. During the interview, Harold mentions that he wants Clyde to experience it just as he did when he met Howard, then proceeds to tell the story of how they both met. They met at an art exhibit, and they wore identical-looking jackets. During the coat check, they accidentally put on the wrong jackets, and when they switched them back around to their rightful owners, they held hands, solidifying their romantic relationship from there on out. Later on, Harold gets a call from Clyde, during which he learns that Clyde will take the pre-dance pictures at the Loud family's house. After he hangs up, he and Howard react in frustration to how they intended to take the pre-dance pictures themselves and how in their eyes, the Louds have burgled the milestone that they tried to stage for Clyde. The situation frustrates them so much they drive to the Loud family's house in hopes of retaliation against them. Meanwhile, Lincoln continues to try making out with Charlie. After he successfully makes a balloon kangaroo for her, he heads inside. When Lincoln enters the house, he finds his sister, Lynn, watching a baseball game. Lynn tries to explain what has happened in the game, but Lincoln does not understand because he is not as much of a professional baseball fan as her. Just then, the game announcer gives a short explanation of what is happening: the current pitcher for the Volcanoes, Cannonball Wilson, is on a roll, and a local superstition running throughout the team says that none of the teammates can compliment him because otherwise, that would jinx him, and he would let the whole idea of being on a roll go to his head, effectively causing the team to lose. Suddenly, Lori arrives and tells Lincoln how he is succeeding at impressing Charlie. Lincoln agrees with her, but Lynn quickly observes and tries to warn Lori that she will ultimately jinx him with her compliments. True to Lynn's warning, Lincoln becomes jinxed, and the next time he tries to impress Charlie, he makes mistakes that work against him. He continues to make mistakes without realizing them throughout the rest of the day, and when he tries to make an impression on Charlie again, he awkwardly ignores her in embarrassment and walks away. Meanwhile, Clyde's fathers arrive at Lincoln's house, and they spy on their son as he makes out with Marnie, as they had planned. Frustrated that nobody had invited them to see it happen, Harold threatens to intimidate Mr. Loud as vengeance. However, Mr. Loud arrives immediately and invites them in, so they enter the house without complaining. When they go inside, Lincoln continues to try making out with Charlie. However, when Harold asks him who he is taking as his date to the dance, Lincoln accidentally says he is attending the dance solo. This leads to a situation that causes him to develop internal dilemmas, and when he tries to sort them out, he accidentally yells that he is taking his sister to the dance. Although Lincoln does manage to prevent Charlie from thinking that he is weird, he becomes faced with the dilemma of finding one of his sisters to take to the dance since he had blurted it out in front of a crowd of students. As he tries to convince his sisters to go to the dance with him, they all decline, and now he is stuck without knowing what to do. Lori advises him to avoid trying to make it look obvious that he is trying to win Charlie's heart, but when he takes this advice, he lies to Charlie that he does not like her, which results in her abandoning him. Lincoln retreats to his bedroom to assess his thoughts on his own. While he assesses his thoughts, Liam enters his room and films him, recording him saying a few things he wants to say to and about Charlie. By the time only ten minutes remain until everybody leaves for the dance, Mrs. Loud remembers when she became the runner-up for dance queen at her last Kangaroo Hop and how she said embarrassing things about herself that gave praise to the winner and condemnation to her. When Liam begins putting the footage of the documentary he filmed together, he encounters the footage of Lincoln talking about the wrong things he did to Charlie and what he truly wanted to say to her. While he plays this recording, Charlie listens to it, and she realizes Lincoln's true thoughts about her. Suddenly, the McBride parents interrupt Liam and tell him to start filming the things Clyde is doing now since he is helping Marnie put on her jacket, and they believe it may end up being just like the time when they first met. However, to their disappointment, Clyde and Marnie end up not touching each other's hands, therefore not initiating any romance. Just then, Lynn comes down the stairs, frustrated because Cannonball Wilson caused the Volcanoes to lose the game, and tells Lincoln that this is why she does not want to be his date to the dance. However, Charlie tells her that Lincoln already has a date for the dance, namely her, since she had listened to the recording that Liam played. Lincoln is surprised because he thinks Charlie is already in a relationship with Rusty, but Charlie immediately reveals that she broke up with Rusty a few weeks prior. This causes Lincoln to accept her offer to go to the dance with her, and they leave for the dance together. Clyde's fathers watch them leave hand-in-hand, declaring that despite Clyde not romantically hooking up with Marnie, a milestone has happened after all. Meanwhile, Mrs. Loud comes outside and notices that Lori is wearing the crown she got from becoming dance queen so many years ago, and she becomes jealous because she did not get a crown when she became runner-up. Mr. Loud gives her a crown made from tin foil, declaring her to be his eternal queen. At the Kangaroo Hop, Lincoln and Charlie become king and queen of the dance.
