For a film in general - okay, for an Estonian film - good
BeneCumb1 January 2013
An unresponsive politician, his rattling spouse and a young rock musician get lost in a North-Eastern forest - and several odd, scary and hectic events are triggered both in the forest and in the party circles the politician belongs to. Lots of witty remarks and real atmosphere, incl. recognisable politician and celebrity types, handbook-based attempts and tricks to attract attention and smoothen the overall image - director and screenwriter Toomas Hussar has recorded it in a convincing and masterful manner (Mushrooming is his feature debut). The plot, however, is not evenly catchy, some episodes provide no additional value and excitement decreases. The ending could have been less sophisticated as well.

The cast is even and strong (even small roles are performed by known and good actors), starting with the performances by Elina Reinold as Viivi Kägu and Raivo E. Tamm as Aadu Kägu; Reinold became Best Actress at the International Film Festival of Marrakech in 2012.

Mushrooming is a decent film and worth watching, but probably not repeatedly and there are no distinctive scenes/lines to be imitated or spread later. Nevertheless, in Estonia, this film attracted the biggest cinema audience in 2012.
