Duck Dynasty became a global phenomenon when the reality series premiered in 2012. The Robertson family was catapulted to stardom as millions of viewers followed the famous duck hunters and their personal lives in the heart of Louisiana. The A&e series ran for 11 seasons until 2017. The Duck Dynasty fandom remains strong to this day, and many have wondered about a possible revival. Willie Robertson opened up about why a Duck Dynasty revival is not in the cards. “We are looking into some different TV ideas,” Robertson told TV Insider while promoting The Blind. “But to recapture what we did before is really not gonna happen. Sadly, everyone’s gotten older, and we’re all in different places now. Our cast has expanded drastically. I have seven grandkids now, so we’ve got some ideas.” Even though a Duck Dynasty revival is off the table, the Robertsons aren’t retreating from the spotlight.

One thing is clear from a quick scroll through a cable TV guide or paying attention to the featured show commercials—the scarcity of family dramas.
Once that point is brought up, it's hard not to wonder what that says about our culture and society as a whole.
There was a time when families sat down and watched TV together.
Some of my fondest memories include watching Friday Night Lights and Gilmore Girls with my parents.
However, nowadays, the idea is becoming a foreign concept if the kids are under 18 or at least not teenagers.
There are many motives behind the switch to crime-focused content, whether true or procedural, hospital dramas, comedies, and series full of mature content.
And we are here to shed some light on the reasons for the change!

For Willie, telling his father’s incredible life story and the love he shares with his longtime wife Kay Robertson was “important” for Duck Dynasty fans to see onscreen. “[Duck Dynasty] is really the result of something,” Willie tells TV Insider. “It’s a result of their marriage, staying together, and our family staying together. We really felt like it’s an unbelievable story. It’s a story of redemption and faith. And now after 50 years, you’ve seen what has come out of that, especially with the TV show.” Willie executive produced the film alongside wife Korie Robertson through their production company Tread Lively. Fathom Events, the company best known for bringing theater, opera, live events and concerts to screens, is currently on track for gross revenues of over $93 million. Despite the fact that the exhibition space has yet to fully recover from the Covid pandemic, Fathom is enjoying the best year in its history — it will surpass sales from 2019, previously the highest-grossing year in company history, by 116%. For further context, Fathom reported revenues of $68 million in 2022.
So what’s behind the surge? Fathom is chalking up the strong results to a pivot in business strategy for the company, one that saw it introduce a “specialty distribution” model. The goal was to bring a wider array of content to cinemas beyond the productions of the Metropolitan Opera that helped put Fathom on the map. It’s one that saw Fathom distribute faith-based films like “The Blind,” as well as release episodes of “The Chosen,...

Taylor Swift‘s “experiment” to release a 2-hour-48-minute concert movie based on her “Eras” tour turned out to be quite a boon for the box office in a slower fall season. Read on for the weekend box office report.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was announced in late August, shortly after the five L.A. concerts that were filmed for the movie, directed by Sam Wrench. Theater chain AMC took the distribution rights, working with Variance to get it into other theaters, with it ultimately ending up in 3,855 theaters, including 377 IMAX screens.
The movie’s weekend began with $2.8 million in last-minute Thursday previews, only announced by Swift on Wednesday night at her L.A. premiere with tickets going on sale Thursday morning. Despite the amount of horror movies released in September, October seemed like a better time for the genre to get a bump with the latest attempt to revive a horror classic. That wasn’t really the case. Read on for the weekend box office report.
There were indeed some hopes that the David Gordon Green-directed “The Exorcist: Believer” would be the good start for a new trilogy based on the William Friedkin-directed 1973 adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s novel, a major theatrical blockbuster at the time that became a horror classic. Green even brought back Ellen Burstyn from the original movie, joining Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd and Jennifer Nettles, as a continuation of Friedkin’s film.
Despite anticipation for another solid “requel” ala Green’s 2018 “Halloween,” “Believer” was universally panned by critics with an awful 23% on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its release into 3,663 theaters by Universal. It...

“The Exorcist: Believer,” a reboot in the legacy horror franchise, opened atop box office charts despite falling short of expectations.
The film, from Universal and Blumhouse, collected $27.2 million from 3,663 North American venues over the weekend, below estimates that suggested a debut closer to $35 million. “Believer” also opened at the international box office with $17.8 million for a global start of $45.1 million. The “Exorcist” sequel cost $30 million, so it’s well-positioned in its theatrical run.
But reviews (23% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audience scores (“C” CinemaScore) were terrible, so the studio may need to reconsider its strategy before the next installment opens in 2025. Universal spent a staggering $400 million to buy the rights to the terrifying property, with plans to at least develop a trilogy around these supernatural battles with the devil. They need moviegoers to feel invested in the series beyond this installment to justify that massive deal.

Nearly 50 years after William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist” landed in theaters to leg out a run as the highest-grossing feature of 1973, a new sequel to it is opening on top of the box office. Universal’s “The Exorcist: Believer” compelled audiences to the tune of an $11.9 million opening day from 3,663 locations, a number including $2.85 million in previews.
The Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Entertainment production should have no trouble taking the top spot through the weekend, though “Believer” now looks to be debuting lower than its more optimistic projections, which had forecast a $30 million gross over the three-day frame. The horror entry should take in around $28 million through Sunday.
The film is also doing much less business than director David Gordon Green’s last spin on a classic horror franchise at Blumhouse; his 2018 “Halloween” became a smash hit with a $76 million debut. “Believer” also won’t be matching the 1973 original’s run,...

Four new movies ended a month full of sequels, some of which did better than others, but in this case the sequels ended up doing better than most expected, and there were some bona fide surprises. Read on for the weekend box office report.
The big winner of the weekend was Paramount Pictures’ “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” the first family film to get a theatrical release in months. It entered theaters with an 81% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though it was essentially a review-proof movie with name-brand value among parents with kids. It opened in second place on Friday with $6.8 million but then grossed a solid $23 million (estimated) for the weekend. It received an “A” CinemaScore, which was not surprising due to its appeal to those same parents with kids.
Lionsgate released “Saw X,” the 10th chapter in the horror franchise that just won’t die, into 3,262 theaters on Friday.

Duck Dynasty is back with a movie, The Blind, telling of family patriarch Phil Robertson’s (played by Aaron von Andrian) younger years living in Louisiana during the 1960s. The film, which opens in select movie theaters on September 28, is an honest depiction as it touches on the Duck Commander creator’s past struggles with alcoholism and the toll his infidelity took on his marriage with Kay (played by Amelia Eve) before he turned everything around. “Long before Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson became a reality TV star, he fell in love with Miss Kay and started a family, but his demons threatened to tear their lives apart,” the official synopsis reads. “Set in the backwoods swamps of 1960s Louisiana, The Blind shares never-before-revealed moments in Phil’s life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place. A groundbreaking partnership with The Metropolitan Opera put Fathom on the map. One of the most celebrity-studded ads in the Super Bowl won’t be from the Big Game’s usual roster of Madison Avenue moguls.
Kevin Costner, Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd and a bevy of other notables are set to appear in a promo for Fox Nation, suggesting that the subscription-based streaming service is one of the more important business initiatives for Fox Corporation, the parent company of the Fox broadcast network, which will televise Super Bowl Lvii this Sunday, and Fox News Media, which operates the broadband outlet.
The company that owns the TV network broadcasting the Super Bowl gets to use several minutes of promo time each year to spotlight its own wares. Exclusive: Netflix is heading to the Alaskan wilderness in its latest competition series.
The streamer has ordered Outlast, an eight-part series, that comes from Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films and Nomad Entertainment.
It marks the first unscripted series from Ozark star Bateman, which has a long-running, first-look deal with the streamer.
Outlast, which will launch in 2023, follows 16 “lone wolves”, who must outlast each other in the Alaskan wilderness in an attempt to win 1 million dollars. There is only one rule in this cut throat game: they must be a part of a team to win.
The eight-part series is one of Netflix’s most ambitious unscripted competition series to date.
Bateman and Aggregate Films are behind a number of Netflix series and films in addition to Ozark. Bateman is directing FBI thriller feature Dark Wire and is attached to star alongside Jude Law series Black Rabbit, which is in development.

Fox Nation, the subscription-based streaming side dish to Fox News Channel, is wrapping its best month of 2022 in what was already a good year. Compare that with CNN+, which lasted all of 32 days this spring.
In November 2018, Fox Nation launched to satiate the Fox News obsessive who (somehow) couldn’t get enough of Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and the rest of the gang over on cable. It originally provided content a step or two beyond the news and opinion programming from the popular Fox News Channel personalities, and has since added the linear channel’s primetime shows on-demand, as well as original history, lifestyle, and travel programming — even Christmas movies.
It’s been quite the evolution, one perhaps best summed up by Fox CFO Steve Tomsic back in June 2021.
“So, Nation started as sort of an ancillary service or a supplementary service figure for the Fox News superfan,” Tomsic said at an investor conference.

Set in the 1960s Deep South and shot on location in Louisiana, The Blind shares never-before-revealed aspects of Robertson’s life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, addiction and complicated family dynamics, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place. “It was important to us that the film be real,” said Willie Robertson, Phil’s son. “The transformation of Phil proves that anyone can change and that there is always hope.”
Directed by Andrew Hyatt the film stars Aron Von Andrian (Dodger), Amelia Eve (The Haunting Of Bly Manor), Brielle Robillard (The Lake) and Matthew Erick White (Station 19). Written by Stephanie Katz (All In).

For streaming services, movies are kind of like the unsung hero: They don’t often get the attention that a high-profile series will deliver, but are remarkably good at getting subscribers in the door. Disney, for example, uses its theatrical films (as well as a regular cadence of Disney+ originals) to drive subscribers, and its original series’ to keep them there.
Now Fox Nation, the streaming service from Fox News Media, wants a piece of the action.
The streaming service for Fox News “super fans” is getting into the original movie business, green-lighting four films for the service. Streaming outlet Fox Nation is already running the commercials its larger rivals say they want to sell.
Big subscription-based streamers like Netflix and Disney+ have caught the attention of Madison Avenue with recent announcements about launching ad-supported tiers for their services. Fox Nation, a smaller streaming outlet that is part of Fox News Media, has quietly opened some of its selections for advertisers.
Subscribers who recently streamed “Duck Family Treasure,” a new special that stars members of the Robertson family from the long-running series “Duck Dynasty,” likely saw something that people who binge-watch often don’t: commercials appearing in the bottom third of the screen while the action continued above them.
More of the ads — from Camping World, a specialist in selling recreational vehicles — are on the way. After launching the first five episodes of the series, Fox Nation is set to unveil five more this Sunday. Camping World ads will appear.

Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

The Group B semi-finals took place on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” with two performers unmasking in front of America. After the Mallard was revealed to be “Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson, Caterpillar lost his head and was exposed as Emmy-nominated “Queer Eye” co-host Bobby Berk. Despite impressing the panel with his performance of “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks, Bobby wasn’t able to take down Banana Split or Queen of Hearts, who will now compete in the Group B finals.

The Group B semi-finals took place on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” with two performers unmasking before the hour was over. Mallard was the first costumed crooner to reveal himself as “Duck Dynasty” reality TV Star Willie Robertson. His performance of “Fly” by Sugar Ray wasn’t enough to advance the billed bird to the Group B finals.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched “The Masked Singer” Season 6, Episode 10, “Group B Semi-Finals,” which aired November 17 on Fox.
There has perhaps never been a more on-the-nose costume on “The Masked Singer” than “Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson as the Mallard. In a reality TV heavy night for “The Masked Singer,” Robertson was unmasked as Mallard, and “Queer Eye” star/interior designer Bobby Berk was revealed to be the Caterpillar, as seen on the tenth episode of Season 6, “Group B Semi-Finals.”
“I was just hiding in plain sight, I guess,” said Robertson — who pointed out that technically the character he was dressed as is not actually a mallard. “That thing was awesome, and I let them know it’s not a mallard, it’s a wood duck. I knew the difference, but then we thought it would be a funny throwoff clue.”
For Mallard, no one got Robertson right.

“The Masked Singer” is down to the final few episodes with the four remaining acts in Group B — Banana Split (a duo), Caterpillar, Mallard and Queen of Hearts — competing in the semi-final on November 17. Of these contenders for the Golden Mask. the Mallard is the one who looks like he is having the most fun. He made it through to this stage of the competition based on his performance on episode 7 of “Play Something Country” by Brooks & Dunn.

Fox Nation has enlisted a new face to help it navigate TV’s streaming wars.
