Since 2012, attending Motor City Comic Con has become a springtime tradition of mine and, in that time, I’ve seen the show grow from a moderately sized convention to a pop culture juggernaut that has become the largest of its kind in the state of Michigan. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they surpassed the 60,000 mark when it came to attendance this year. If so, that’d make it one of the biggest shows in North America. [Note: Since publishing this article, they’ve been confirmed to have exceeded 55,000, which is still very impressive.]
And who could blame anyone for showing up, be they diehard geek, casual moviegoer or just plain curious? Boasting a handful of cast members from The Walking Dead, Hellboy himself in Ron Perlman, as well as DC TV stars such as Robin Lord Taylor (Gotham) and John Barrowman (Arrow), to name but a few,...

The eight-movie, 16-year history of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise is nothing less than the story of Hollywood filmmaking in the 21st century. As a scrappy, overachieving summer blockbuster has exploded into a series of bi-annual box office behemoths, the continuing adventures of Dominic Toretto have come to serve as an incredibly lucid chronicle of the transition from analog action to digital spectacle, and of how a hyper-localized star system gave way to our internationally focused age of branding. No other series in recent memory has taken so many sharp turns over the years, and no other series has been able to survive so many flat tires thanks to the sheer power of family.
With “The Fate of the Furious” ready to roll into theaters, we’ve decided to place the film in its proper context by ranking each installment of the saga from worst to best. Buckle up.

6.9 Last Dance
Prom night is a rite of passage, even for five girls who've have spent their entire high school career running away from mean girls, escaped Radley patients and omniscient secret siblings. One of them has come back from the dead, another been a Radley patient herself, and two of them have actually become murderers. But prom is still important, and this show was never going to miss an opportunity to get their cast dressed up.
We open on a sequence revealing that all four mothers are actually in town and on screen at the same time. The girls have been disinvited from prom and graduation on safety grounds – Charles robbing them of the little high school school experience they still have – but Veronica...

Who knew Sons of Anarchy could get so poignant?
During a moment of crisis for Samcro on Tuesday’s episode of the FX drama, Bobby reflects on the club’s good ol’ days: “Remember when our biggest problem was which Mayan to kill?” Jax insists those were simpler times, but Bobby takes it a step further: “Simpler men.”
That statement seems particularly fitting for this week’s installment, which finds the motorcycle club getting into hot water with multiple allies — and realizing there’s very few places left to turn. Without further ado, here’s what went down on “Poor...

Check out “Action Bill,” a charming Lego stop-motion animated short. Lego William Shakespeare is trying to break through his writer’s block in a charming Tudor playset. Suddenly, William Shatner descends in a mech suit, desperate for revenge against the Bard. He has his reasons, and they are hilarious. Our hero seems outmatched when help arrives in the form of… Actually, I’ll let that be a surprise, because it is just too perfect to spoil. The short is full of small, witty details, and it’s only about 4 minutes, so watch it right now.
"Action Bill" was directed by Gareth Witte and produced by Dustin Butler and Rachel James. It was written by Kenneth Haney, Witte, Butler, and James.

The 6th annual Arizona Underground Film Festival might be beginning on the unluckiest day of the year — Friday the 13th — but the residents of Tucson are lucky for this 9-night extravaganza of wild and wooly cinema from all over the globe. The fest runs Sept. 13-21 at The Screening Room and other locations.
Opening Night films include the retro, music-fueled slasher flick Discopath by Renaud Gauthier and the Internet-based bloodbath Truth Or Dare, directed by scream queen Jessica Cameron making her filmmaking debut. The last film of the fest on the 21st is the cryptic post-apocalyptic thriller Dust of War, directed by Andrew Kightlinger.
The rest of the fest includes mind-bending fiction flicks like the cult-ish Fateful Findings by Neil Breen; the 90-minute, one-shot noir Worm by Andrew Bowser; Zach Clark’s twisted holiday movie White Reindeer; Drew Tobia’s surreal See You Next Tuesday; as well as challenging documentaries...
