Dr. Grace's ex-fiancé, Jerome Bradley, is played by Georgina Reilly's real-life husband, Mark O'Brien.
The Stanley Cup was created in 1892 as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup by Lord Stanley of Preston, the English Governor-General of Canada. It remained a challenge cup from 1893 through 1914, and professional teams were first permitted to compete in 1906. In 1915 the cup was presented to the winner between two professional leagues: the National Hockey Association (NHA) and the Pacific Coast Hockey Assoociation (PCHA). The NHL took over as the sole surviving professional league in 1926. The Stanley Cup is unusual as a sports trophy as the winner does not keep it but passes it on to the next year's winner. Ironically Lord Stanley never saw a championship game or presented the cup as he was recalled to Britain in 1893.
This episode takes place in 1899 but the Toronto Wellingtons played for the Challenge Cup championship in 1902, losing to the Winnipeg Victorias 2 games to 0 in a best-of-three series. It was their only appearance in the Cup final.
Mark O'Brien plays hockey player Jerome Bradley in this episode. In 2019, he would play famed hockey goaltender Terry Sawchuck in Goalie (2019).
