R&b darlings Halle Bailey, Summer Walker and Coco Jones celebrated their Grammy nominations in a lavish way — at a high tea party at a luxurious West Hollywood residence.
As music industry players stood poolside, where synchronized swimmers performed and violinists played, the singers were honored on Friday by Femme It Forward, the female-led music and entertainment company founded by Heather Lowery in partnership with Live Nation Entertainment.
“I want to say that I continue to be inspired by us. Looking at us, women, and all the ways we shine, we are resilient. I feel like we are so innovative, and we continue to pave the way for ourselves for future generations,” said Jones, who is nominated for five Grammys. “And I want you all to know that I’m watching, I’m inspired, and there is so much room for us to shine.”

Coco Jones knows that everything happens on its own timeline. Now an R&b star on an upward trajectory, Jones started off her entertainment career strong, landing a starring role on Disney's "Let It Shine" at the age of 14. She seemed squarely on the path to musical stardom, but efforts to launch her own music career faltered as her label tried to pigeonhole her. Then they dropped her. Jones soon found herself wondering about her place in the world.
"I moved to LA at 17. I think I was trying to self-soothe with partying, so I was out a lot with my girls," she tells Popsugar. "We were all kind of young and confused, so I didn't feel like that was only me."
Still, she was struggling. At the time, losing the record deal seemed like a failure, but in hindsight, the freedom of those years...

Chlöe's mentor and confidant Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation." These days, Chlöe is used to being a trending topic on social media. Not that the 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor pays attention to it, seeing as she occasionally removes apps like Twitter and Instagram from her phone when the negative comments get overwhelming.
"It's been hard, difficult, [and] unsettling," Chlöe tells Popsugar of dealing with constant judgment from some of her biggest critics online. "I could go down the whole negative path but I have to learn to not really care and to know that as long as I am being authentically and unapologetically myself, then I'm good."

Tyler James Williams struggles with relationships as Gregory Eddie on "Abbott Elementary" - and it sounds like the actor also has a bit of trouble with romance in the real world. "[The fame] makes it hard to be seen," he told GQ in a March 22 interview, saying that his notoriety has made it hard to move past surface-level connections. "I've also never gotten a chance to introduce myself to anybody," he continued. "There's something that's really cool about when I look at people and I'm like, 'Damn, y'all met and she ain't know nothing about you. You just were able to give her who you are right now.'"
Williams has been in the spotlight for a while, starring as Chris Rock on "Everybody Hates Chris" beginning in 2005. He also starred as Cyrus DeBarge in Disney Channel's "Let it Shine," played Noah on "The Walking Dead," and currently stars on "Abbott Elementary...

Exclusive: CBS Studios has signed an overall deal with Barbershop writer Don D. Scott. Under the two-year pact, Scott will develop new series for the studio across all platforms, including drawing on his unique background for inspiration. Scott grew up in a nightclub-owning family, and his father was also a professional bowler who broke the color barrier in the Pba.
Most of Scott’s TV series career to date has been at CBS Studios. He was a staff writer on the studio’s CBS comedy Fam and worked on the second and third season of CBS Studios’ CBS hit The Neighborhood, rising to co-producer.
Scott got his break in 2002 with his first produced script, Barbershop. Scott co-wrote the breakout hit, which spawned a franchise that spanned film and TV, and wrote the sequel, Barbershop 2: Back In Business. He transitioned to TV with the Disney Channel original movie Let It Shine,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not seen “Zoo Balloon,” Episode 13 of “Abbott Elementary.”
Like his “Abbott Elementary” character Gregory Eddie, Tyler James Williams is a bit nerdy.
Gregory, as a result of his father’s indoctrination, has an encyclopedic knowledge of gardening tactics. He struggles to express himself, making interior design faux pas in his classroom until fellow teacher Janine (series creator Quinta Brunson) steps in to help. He’s a picky eater who hates pizza, and often spends his lunch hour eating a sandwich alone in his car, even though his colleagues welcome his company.
Williams’ nerdiness, rather, centers network television. He’s developed specific goals about the kinds of characters he’d like to bring to primetime, unironically uses the phrase “industry Iq” and knows more than most about the nitty gritty of the ratings systems that often dictate a show’s fate — which has come in handy lately.

Netflix's The Half of It is already getting enormous buzz, and it's easy to see why. After watching the trailer, you might be wondering if the film is based on a book - something about the story sounds very familiar! In fact, the movie is loosely based on a famous play that's also inspired several other movies in recent years. Here's where you've seen it before.
The Half of It is loosely based on Cyrano de Bergerac, a 19th-century play that revolves around an eloquent but "ugly" man helping a handsome but uninspired man woo a beautiful woman whom they both develop feelings for. In this latest version, it's a little more complicated than that: the movie's protagonist, Ellie, has to hide the fact that she secretly has a crush on another girl while helping a jock guy write love letters to that same girl. Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, starring singer Halle Bailey as Ariel, will be directed by Rob Marshall.
The Little Mermaid is coming back to theaters, this time in live-action form, as part of Disney’s deluge of live-action movie remakes of its iconic animated classics. Of course, the move is hardly the biggest surprise in the world, with the year 2019 alone yielding "A-list" releases of Dumbo, The Lion King, and Aladdin, and with Mulan set arrive in March 2020, and 101 Dalmatians prequel Cruella arriving in May 2021, giving its prolific corporate tentpole neighbors at Marvel a run for their money.
Halle Bailey will embrace life under the sea, and later on the surface, to star as Ariel. This is a major break for the singer/actress, who is part of the cast of Freeform’s Grown-ish and is one-half of the R&b act, Chloe X Halle.

Disney has found its Ariel for the Little Mermaid remake with Halle Bailey, a newcomer praised for her amazing singing voice.
Disney has found its Ariel, the beloved princess from under the sea, and it is most definitely an unexpected choice. Despite social media stans pushing hard for the casting of Zendaya, Disney and director Rob Marshall have selected relative newcomer Halle Bailey to play the mermaid who introduced Broadway style to Walt Disney Studios Animation.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses the rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Marshall said in a statement. Indeed, it is Ariel’s otherworldly voice that becomes the very center of the film after Ursula, the octopi-sea witch, convinces her to sell her voice in exchange for a pair of legs.

No Best Picture contender has gotten more mud unfairly slung at it this Oscar season than Green Book, the Peter Farrelly-directed drama that earned Oscar nominations for both Mahershala Ali for playing virtuoso pianist Don Shirley, and Viggo Mortensen for playing Tony Lip, the Copacabana bouncer who drove him on a road trip of the Deep South during the Jim Crow segregation era. Because of the clear dirty tricks campaign waged against this Golden Globe-winning film — a final round of arrows were shot this week — Deadline is providing two glimpses of Green Book to Oscar voters who’ll make the ultimate decision. Since the late Robert Kennedy provides a pivotal moment in the film, I’ve interviewed his widow, Ethel Kennedy, and sons Robert Jr and Max, for their reaction to the movie. Their recollection of how Green Book brought back memories of Rfk’s bold efforts on the...

The Wizards Of Waverly Place and star Selena Gomez couldn’t quite capture the magic of the hit franchise’s heyday. Last night’s Disney Channel original movie The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, delivered 5.9 million total viewers. That was less than half the audience of the 2009 TV movie Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie (13.5 million), which ranks as the #2 cable TV movie ever (behind High School Musical 2). Still, Alex vs. Alex did better than recent Disney Channel films like Girl Vs. Monster (4.9 million) and Let It Shine (5.7 million). It delivered 2.9 million Kids 2-11, 2.3 million Kids 6-11 and 2.2 million Tweens 9-14, ranking as the #1 cable TV telecast of 2013 to date in Tweens 9-14, the #2 cable TV telecast in Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11, and the #1 kids’ cable TV telecast in Total Viewers. I don't know how many people really saw this coming, but in a way, it makes a lot of sense. Although it initially seemed like a bit of a long shot, after picking up a slew of awards over the past month, Argo has very quickly overtaken Steven Spielberg's Lincoln as the film to beat at this year's Academy Awards. The movie won Best Drama at the Golden Globes and then went on to pick up top prizes from the Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild and now the Directors Guild. Under normal circumstances, Ben Affleck's DGA win would make him a shoo-in to take Best Director at the Oscars, if only for one thing: he wasn't even nominated. Still, he's not letting that little oversight spoil his mood. Here's what he had to say during his DGA acceptance speech yesterday: "The four folks here who are nominated I consider my betters.

The Directors Guild Awards has been an extremely reliable predictor of the Oscar winner for best director over the years. It won't be this year, though.
Ben Affleck, who isn't nominated for a directing Oscar for "Argo," won the DGA Award for feature films Saturday night (Feb. 2). He beat out fellow nominees Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables"), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") and Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln").
Affleck's Oscar snub is looking ever more curious as he's now won the DGA Award, a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Award for his direction of "Argo."

Los Angeles — Ben Affleck has won the top film honor from the Directors Guild of America for his CIA thriller "Argo," further sealing its status as best-picture front-runner at the Academy Awards.
Saturday's prize also normally would make Affleck a near shoo-in to win best-director at the Feb. 24 Oscars, since the Directors Guild recipient nearly always goes on to claim the same prize at Hollywood's biggest night.
But Affleck surprisingly missed out on an Oscar directing nomination, along with several other key favorites, including fellow Directors Guild contenders Kathryn Bigelow for "Zero Dark Thirty" and Tom Hooper for "Les Miserables."
Affleck's Oscar snub has not hurt "Argo" and may even have earned it some favor among awards voters as an underdog favorite. "Argo" has dominated other awards since the Oscar nominations.
