This just may be my favourite part of the series (so far). As someone who is fond of film noir and crime genre in general, I found 'What a Cool Mascot' to be a delightful homage.
The episode introduces Hard-Boiled, a detective who accompanies Gudetama and Shakipiyo into the den of the Egg Mafia. Our heroes are on a mission to get silica beads, which can be used as a food preservative and should prevent Gudetama from going entirely rotten. Their quest takes the trio underground and then into a ventilation shaft - in the best traditions of action films, except this is Gudetama, so the word 'action' should be taken with a grain of salt.
An entertainment act - a singer who is also a dessert - poses the question of whether, in fact, the chicken or the egg came first. (The answer is that it makes no difference.) The suspicious patrons of the underground bar get drunk on soya sauce, but even more nefarious business takes place behind a guarded door. The scene is set, and it is up to Shakipiyo, Gudetama, and Hard-Boiled to take another step on the very long road that, we hope, leads to a family re-union. However, it seems they are not the only ones after the silica bags...
