A very inspired moment from Paralamas and Gilberto Gil (one of the song's composers) "A Novidade" presents a similar video concept as shown in "Alagados", by showing the group members
visiting many locations in Rio de Janeiro and we have several moments where they interact with the crowd of common people, other times we see the daily routine of people
walking around the city, doing their business amidst the chaos and mysery of the city - the Rio we see is one destined to lower classes, so don't expect to see the sunny
beaches and the most famous locations. Does it fit with the song idea? Sure, since they both revolve around social contradictions, poverty, the lack of social equality and
injustices. The video comes from a era before MTV Brazil exists so it lacks a visual appeal or a more fascinating thing to be seen; the main quality is in seeing how things,
places, people and costumes were back in 1986. To add a controversy to the bonfire of controversies since there's a whole issue between lead singer Herbert Vianna and Lobão
with the former saying that Vianna tends to copy the things he does musically: which video came first, this one or "Revanche" by Lobão? Both were released on the same year and
contain the same kind of imagery (common people living in Rio) and both songs carry strong social themes (though Paralamas is more poetic, Lobão goes for a more direct punch).
In any case, I like them both but the issue remains (and there's some truth to that, and if not, it's an amazing coincidence). All commendable works, both music and video. 8/10.
