The Peruvien Ica Stones have been a proven fake since 1977. To challenge the farmer who claimed to have found the stones, Basilio Uschuya, who sold them to Peruvian physician Javier Cabrera Darquea, the government of Peru arrested Uschuya and charged him with illegally selling archaeological discoveries outside the country. Then, Uschuya admitted he made the carvings with knives, chisels, and a dental drill. He stated he created the patina by baking them in cow dung. Uschuya was quoted as saying, "Making these stones is easier than farming the land."
