- TriviaAnthony DiNozzo Sr. (Robert Wagner) refers to his arresting officer as "Officer Krupke." This was the name of a police officer in West Side Story (1961), which features Wagner's wife, Natalie Wood.
- GoofsThe term "Radio Officer" is used several times to describe the backseat occupant of a Navy fighter jet. The correct term is "Radar Intercept Officer" or RIO. One of the better-known examples of a RIO is Goose in Top Gun (1986).
- Quotes
Anthony DiNozzo, Sr.: I know you and I haven't been the best of friends for the past couple of years. But uh, why'd you stick your neck out for me? Let me stay here?
Special Agent Jethro Gibbs: I didn't do it for you. I did it for your son. He deserves better.
Anthony DiNozzo, Sr.: You're right Gibbs. He does. I thought that when this deal went through, I'd be set. I could retire. No more hustling. I'd be able to be the person I always pretended to be. Leave some money for Junior. Real money.
Special Agent Jethro Gibbs: You don't get it. Tony never wanted your money. He wants a father.

What added to the intrigue is the real-life coincidence of the veteran actor being under suspicion as the case of the mysterious death of his wife Natalie Wood 30 years ago has just been reopened by the cops. Here, too, he seems a red herring as the boat captain recollects evidence supposedly pointing to him as a culprit. I wonder how Wagner reacted to last night's airing of NCIS given the timing.
Fortunately, his acting and that of the series' regulars defuses this issue, especially as Mark Harmon's character Gibbs showed impressive sympathy for both DiNozzo père et fils. By episode's end, everything was back in order and in fact one felt a new bonding was in progress for the DiNozzo family.
Actual resolution of the mystery was well-handled, and I couldn't guess the killer's identity even though there were ample clues provided. All told, an unexpectedly timely and rewarding segment.
