One Piece, the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, just wrapped its second week at No. 1 in Netflix’s Top 10 with another dominating performance internationally. And, in what is becoming a right of passage for every series that hits it big with young adults these days (like Netflix’s Wednesday), One Piece sparked a TikTok craze with tributes to its demented villain Buggy.
In an interview with Deadline, One Piece executive producers, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, spoke about how the tide turned on TikTok, with skeptical fans of the manga and anime series embracing the live-action adaptation of the story about a young man and his pirate crew’s search for the fabled “One Piece” treasure.
“Both Becky and I have been involved in a lot of successful shows. But in your career, you dream about one like this,” said Adelstein whose long list of...

“Taken” director Pierre Morel is turning his lens to action-comedies with latest film “Freelance.”
Alison Brie stars as a washed up journalist who travels to Colombia for a high-profile interview with a local dictator. She hires a private security guard, played by John Cena, to protect her while abroad; yet of course, things go horribly wrong and the duo are on the run.
The official synopsis reads: An ex special forces operative stuck in a dead-end desk job (Cena) reluctantly takes on a gig to provide private security for a struggling journalist (Brie) as she interviews a ruthless — but impeccably dressed — dictator (Juan Pablo Raba). When a military coup breaks out just as she’s about to get the scoop of a lifetime, the unlikely trio must figure out how to survive the jungle, the assassins, and each other in order to make it out alive.

John Cena is joining a new film project called Playing With Fire. It’s a family comedy in which we will see Cena meet his match. According to Variety:
The family comedy revolves around a group of rugged wildfire fighters who meet their match when they rescue a trio of rambunctious children.
Yeah, that seems like the kind of movie that John Cena would sign up for. I can already imagine how the story is going to play out. The actor seems to like being a part of these silly family comedies. I personally think he could and should be making better films, but I guess this is the stuff that he gravitates towards. Hey, he’s a working actor making lots of money, so if he’s content with it… great!

John Cena is replacing Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming Jackie Chan action-thriller called Project X.
The film is set at a Chinese-run oil refinery in the Middle East. Chan will play a "Chinese private security contractor who is tasked with extracting oil workers from a refinery that’s been attacked." He will team up with a former U.S. Marine played by Cena, when he learns that the attackers’ real plan is to steal the oil.
The movie is set to be directed by Scott Waugh (Need For Speed). Cena and Chan should make a good on-screen team, but I still would have liked to see the Chan and Stallone team-up. There's no word on why he's no longer involved.
Cena has been blowing up in Hollywood recently. He's come a long way since The Marine. He just starred in the film Blockers and he's also going to be in the...

The Janson Directive is a film adaptation that was announced in September 2014, but hasn’t progressed much further in the intervening period. Until now, it was most notable for being yet another movie with franchise potential to be stacked on the slate of the increasingly busy Dwayne Johnson. Universal just turned up the heat on the project, however, by detailing how it will become the foundation of a brand new cinematic universe.
The book from which The Janson Directive will be adapted is by legendary author Robert Ludlum – who also created the Jason Bourne series. According to the book synopsis, there are also vast similarities between the Bourne and Janson tales.

If you're not familiar with The Janson Directive, here's an official description of the book:

You can blame Marvel Studios for Hollywood’s current fascination with shared universes, with Warner Brothers and DC Comics on its way to building it’s own, and the likes of Hasbro Godzilla/Kong, and Hanna-Barbera waiting in the wings. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a Robert Ludlum shared universe is on the cards at Universal, Ludlum of course being the late author of the Jason Bourne series of novels. What’s more, Dwayne Johnson will be helping to make it happen with the long in development The Janson Directive, the tale of a government operative forced to go rogue after a mission gone wrong, receiving a script polish from The Amazing Spider-Man’s James Vanderbilt to make it shared universe ready. With Johnson responsible for re-energising so many franchises, it’s a no-brainer to have him start his own, and there’s plenty of milage for the...

Based on a novel by Robert Ludlum, creator of the Jason Bourne spy series, it's an action thriller about a former secret operative who is framed for murder and must clear his name. Universal wants a Robert Ludlum cinematic universe - and it's kicking off with The Rock in The Janson Directive.
Here’s another new cinematic universe to add to the list of those that Hollywood studios are putting together, this time based around the works of late author Robert Ludlum.
It’s being kickstarted with Universal and Dwayne Johnson (surely the busiest man in Hollywood) coming together for The Janson Directive, a movie that’s been in the works for around five years now.
The Amazing Spider-Man’s James Vanderbilt is penning the screenplay to this one, and he’s going to be one of the team putting together a collection of movies based on Robert Ludlum’s writing. Ludlum penned the Jason Bourne stories, of course, and his spy thrillers have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
Whether Dwayne Johnson will fit into future movies remains to be seen.

We're starting to wonder if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson sleeps, sees his family, or even takes a vacation. With a docket that already has a Jumanji remake, a standing role in the Fast and Furious franchise, as well as the lead villain role in Shazam, the man already has a pretty full dance card. So, obviously, now's the time for Johnson to play the cornerstone to another cinematic universe, and this one has Robert Ludlum's work at the heart of it. The news broke this evening, with The Hollywood Reporter breaking the news around the same time that Universal sent out the pertinent facts in a press release. Johnson has signed on for the film adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Janson Directive, which will not only see Johnson starring as the titular Paul Janson, but will also see the action star involved as an ...

Universal Pictures, Mythology Entertainment, Captivate Entertainment and screenwriter James Vanderbilt are all teaming up for a series of films based on the works of "The Bourne Identity" author Robert Ludlum.
Universal was previously working with Captivate on adaptations of not just 'Janson' but Ludlum's "The Parsifal Mosaic," "The Sigma Protocol" and "Covert One". The new deal brings them all under one umbrella and gives them crossover elements.
The first film in this initiative will be an adaptation of "The Janson Directive" starring Dwayne Johnson. Vanderbilt ("The Rundown") will adapt from a story co-written by Akiva Goldsman. Vanderbilt will also co-author two more treatments based on the Ludlum books which have not been named. The treatments will then be adapted into screenplays by scribes yet to be hired.

Is Dwayne Johnson the next Idina Menzel? Audiences have seen the action star face many deadly obstacles on the big screen, but they haven't heard much of his singing voice. Johnson will give his vocal muscles a workout as the voice of the "legendary demi-god Maui" in Disney's upcoming animated adventure "Moana," according to The Wrap. The best part? It's a musical. Johnson confirmed the news on Twitter: Excited to star as "Maui" in Disney's next big animated musical, Moana. Incredible story! **clears throat #TimeToSing http://t.co/mtuvFgRkaE — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) December 3, 2014 Directed by the "Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin" team of John Musker and Ron Clements, the CG film centers on Moana, a navigator searching for a lost island in the South Pacific. It's all go for Dwayne Johnson at the moment. Not long after he announced the start of a potential franchise with The Janson Directive, another possible series has fallen into his lap, with the announcement that he will be headlining the long in development big screen Baywatch reboot. Based on the 90's series best known for David Hasslehoff, slow-motion, and swims suits, the movie will see Sean Anders and John Morris take directing duties, after making their debut as a team with Horrible Bosses 2, working from a script by relative newcomer Justin Malen. Previously, the project was said to have the shows original stars Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson in leading roles, but these plans seemed to have been scrapped for a new take of the material, which according to Johnson on Twitter, promises to be "edgy, raunchy, and hopefully, funny as hell." While before I may have dismissed a Baywatch movie,...

Since Dwayne Johnson brought a much-needed fuel injection of testosterone and charisma to the Fast & Furious franchise, Universal has naturally been keen to slot him into other projects. The artist formerly (and sometimes still) known as the Rock is being courted to head up a new Robert Ludlum adaptation, The Janson Directive.Ludlum’s tome, which follows the author’s familiar titling pattern, focuses on a consular agent who, after ditching the life of a covert ops warrior after getting sick of sanctioned killing, starts a private security firm.Partnered with a sharpshooter, the duo functions as a take on The Equalizer, using its skills to help those in need while atoning for former sins. Of course, this being a Ludlum story, it’s not as easy as that. The studio is hoping the film could kick off another Bourne-level franchise, and Johnson could always use more film series to anchor.

Dwayne Johnson is in early talks to star in and produce a film adaptation of "The Bourne Identity" author Robert Ludlum's "The Janson Directive" at Universal Pictures.
Published in 2002, the story follows Paul Janson, an ex-Navy Seal whose sadistic C.O. in Vietnam turned him over to the enemy. He escaped and returned with evidence of war crimes that caused his Co's execution.
Years late, Janson is now a private security consultant whose latest job is rescuing an important man. When the job is botched, he is targeted for termination and his investigations lead him to uncover a massive scandal.
The studio reportedly sees this as another potential 'Bourne' style franchise but with Johnson in the lead. Writers are currently being sought to pen the script as a previous draft by John Hlavin has been scrapped.
