NeNe Leakes is spilling the tea from her time as an original castmember on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and this time she sharing her experience with someone who can relate, Bethenny Frankel (“The Real Housewives of New York”).
During her two-part conversation with Frankel on her podcast “Just B,” Leakes dished on some old and new items like feeling like she was blacklisted following her lawsuit against NBCUniversal, Bravo, and production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original, and how Black “housewives” were not given the same privileges as their white counterparts.
But there were new revelations, like Frankel’s attempt to pitch a show starring her and Leakes called “Ebony and Ivory,” and Leakes admitting she felt executive producer/host Andy Cohen never liked her.
Leakes also recognized the jumpstart that “Housewives” gave her TV career but now wants to return to her real passion — acting. Here’s a...

Ryan Murphy made headlines back in 2018 when the prolific producer of TV hits ranging from "Glee" to "American Horror Story" signed a massive content deal with Netflix, estimated at a record-breaking $300 million. Since then, Murphy and his collaborators have delivered a head-spinning array of projects for viewers of the streaming service, in addition to various shows for network television and the FX basic cable brand.
Known for audacious and outrageous plot twists, compelling characters, and assembling a repertory company comprised of some of Hollywood's finest actors, Murphy has managed to leave his imprint on everything he touches. Realistically speaking, Murphy has increasingly spread himself thin as he continues to pump out more and more television content within multiple genres. Though everything remains thoroughly on brand, not all of those projects achieve the same level of quality. Occasional stumbles are inevitable. With that in mind, read on for a roundup of...

It was a not-at-all-insignificant weekend at the box office as "Avatar: The Way of Water" was finally forced to surrender the top spot, with M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin" earning its place in history as the movie to get the job done. And while that is certainly the headline-worthy story to come from this past weekend, it's by no means the only story worth examining. That's because several other movies and bits of specialty programming entered the fold and did quite well, despite the heavy competition. This includes "80 for Brady," a BTS concert documentary, and the season finale of a faith-based TV show. There was room for all, and that is something the industry at large would do well to make note of.
Director Kyle Marvin's "80 for Brady" actually managed to beat expectations and land in the number two spot on its opening weekend,...

If anyone knows a thing or two about bagging Golden Globe Award nominations, it’s Ryan Murphy, who has produced a total of 14 program bids and five victories for 11 different TV projects thus far. Now, he’s looking at another potential successful run with five shows eligible at next year’s ceremony, including his newest Netflix series “Ratched,” the eight-episode inaugural season of which was released September 18 on Netflix. When “Modern Family” premiered in 2009, the mockumentary-style family sitcom was an instant hit, one that would forever alter the fabric of the television landscape. At the time, it seemed water cooler discussion of primetime television had gone the way of the radio, but — much like that other medium — it came roaring back. While Sofia Vergara’s Gloria waltzed her way into the hearts of gay men and lesbians for wildly different reasons, it was Cameron and Mitchell’s loving relationship that made Lgbtq viewers feel truly seen and represented.
Played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, seeing a loving (and bickering) gay couple on primetime was a revelation. Without downplaying the strides made by “Will & Grace,” “Modern Family” was the first time a major network had shown a long-term, committed queer relationship — and with two of its leading characters. The Directors Guild of America announced only a handful of nominations on the TV front on January 6, after a glitch in voting. Jill Soloway, who won in 2015 for helming “Transparent,” was left off the ballot for the series finale. So the guild is letting its members recast their votes in that category. The DGA will reveal the results of that on Friday, along with the nominees for drama series and specials. (The feature film nominations are still a go for Tuesday.)
Among Monday’s nominations, “Fosse/Verdon” led the way with three bids in the TV Movie or Limited Series race: Emmy nominees Thomas Kail and Jessica Yu are joined by Minki Spiro. Emmy champ Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”), Emmy nominee Ava DuVernay (“When They See Us”) and Vince Gilligan (“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”) round out the race.

"We're not the war on drugs, we're fighting the war on drugs." Netflix has debuted the first official trailer for a documentary titled Grass is Greener, a fascinating new doc film examining America's complicated relationship with marijuana. The grass definitely is greener. Directed by iconic hip hop artist / filmmaker known as "Fab 5 Freddy", the very timely film discusses pot's influence on pop culture / music, as well as the devastating impact its criminalization has had on black and Latino communities. Featuring appearances by Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill's B-Real, Damian Marley, and plenty of other "celebrities and experts" who enjoy the greatness of cannabis. With legalization quickly taking over America (and the world?), there's more talk about marijuana - with docs like Breaking Habits and Spike Jonze's The New Normal. Light it up. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Fab 5 Freddy's doc Grass is Greener, from Netflix's YouTube: Weed. Marijuana.

MedMen's two-minute Spike Jonze-directed ad, "The New Normal," has Grey's Anatomy actor Jesse Williams playing a slew of characters — like a hemp-growing George Washington — in a series of frozen-in-time vignettes illustrating the long, complicated history of cannabis in America.
It's a trippy spot, but the true mind-blower is how it was made. Williams and "true collaborator" Jonze staffed up the ad, which can only be seen online and on cannabis-friendly TV outlets like Dish, Bravo and the Food Network, with loads of people who had been incarcerated for marijuana offenses or been tangled ...

It’s now been over half-a-decade since we last got a feature film from Spike Jonze and there’s no word yet when he may return with a new movie, but it doesn’t mean we haven’t seen new work from the imaginative director. On the contrary, there’s been no shortage of music videos, commercials, and various other works. The latest finds him teaming with cinematographer Bradford Young.
The duo collaborated with the cannabis company MedMen for a new campaign titled “The New Normal,” which aims to enact reform when it comes to marijuana criminalization. Narrated by Jesse Williams, their two-minute short film inventively explores the long history of American’s pot use and how both the effect of the war on drugs is still being negatively felt in many communities today and how reform could be a positive for the economic growth in this country.
