The role of Ava Bartlett on “Based on a True Story” wasn’t written with Kaley Cuoco in mind, but the true crime-obsessed character was definitely right up her alley. “Not that I’m trying to promote Peacock, but they have all the ‘Datelines,’ so I’m on the Peacock app every night with my earbuds in because it’s like my own little world,” Cuoco tells Gold Derby (watch above). “Because Tom [Pelphrey], my partner, he thinks I’m insane, like, how are you falling asleep? I’d watch murder and these horrible stories and I’m like, ‘Ah! Ok, good night.’ So when this show came around, I was like, ‘This is made for me.’ I love this genre, I love true crime, I love the fact that it’s kind of a funny, scary, all the things. That kind of tightrope that can be tough to walk on a TV show.

Who are the most significant influences on your musical life and career as a composer? A great film or TV score is most potent as an artform when it reinforces the emotion on screen, but it also knows when music is not needed. What strategies do you employ to get this balance right? These were some of the topics discussed by four top TV composers when they joined Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2024 awards contenders: Julia Newman (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”), Sherri Chung (“Based on a True Story”), David Fleming (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Nami Melumad (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”). “It’s the first comedic thriller I’ve ever done. A lot of the projects that I’ve done in the past have been very black and white; they’re heroic, they’re drama, they’re rom-com, and you always know who the antagonist is and you know who you’re supposed to be rooting for,” declares “Based on a True Story” composer Sherri Chung. For our recent webchat she adds, “This was a story where we don’t know if should we be rooting for this guy, is this guy as bad as he said, as bad as we think he is, is he as good as we think he is? The challenge musically was that you don’t want to give it away. You don’t want to telegraph what the audience doesn’t know yet. You don’t want to ruin the fun of them trying to...

Exclusive: NBCUniversal (NBCU) Global TV Distribution has struck a content deal with Asian streamer Begin.
According to Begin, this is the first time that NBCU content will be legally watchable in Pakistan, as the U.S. major’s movies and shows have historically been pirated via Pakistani telecoms and internet service providers.
The nascent streamer, which is headquartered in the UAE, backed by Z2C Limited and available in Pakistan, has picked up movies including Oppenheimer, The Holdovers and Kung Fu Panda 4 as part of the multi-year deal. NBCU TV series in the deal include Ted, Based on a True Story and Peacock’s Tattooist of Auschwitz adaptation.
“We know our audiences crave fresh and exciting content, and with exclusive access to NBCUniversal’s biggest hits and new releases, we can’t wait to satisfy their appetite with the best in entertainment,” said Jonathan Mark, Begin’s CEO and Co-Founder.

The Big Bang Theory is a comfort comedy series for millions of viewers all over the world. The amazing ensemble cast includes Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, and many other brilliant actors, who brought to life so many funny and quirky characters.
The show has been on the air since 2007 and lasted for 12 seasons, wrapping it all up in 2019 when Jim Parsons made it clear that he had no desire to remain on the show. But from all the cast members, it's only him who we know that has been busy in a similar project. Yes, we are talking about Young Sheldon, of course.
But what’s about the rest of the cast? For example, what’s new in Kaley Cuoco’s life after she finished working on The Big Bang Theory? Well, the actress soon joined the DC Universe to voice the titular character of the animated Harley...

True crime podcasts have effectively become a foundation for many scripted shows like ‘Bodkin’, a seven-episode series on Netflix centered around a trio venturing into the retiree Irish town called Bodkin to unfurl the mystery of three individuals who vanished two decades ago. With theatrical parallels noted with ‘Only Murders in the Building’ (Hulu), ‘Based on a True Story’ (Peacock), and ‘Truth Be Told’ (Apple TV+), ‘Bodkin’ injects its unique style into the mix. It begins by introducing us to Gilbert, personified by Will Forte, whose initial podcasting success descends into professional desperation as he becomes a classic one-hit wonder

Is Netflix’s Bodkin Based on a True Story? (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Starring Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, and Robyn Cara as Gilbert Power, Dove, and Emmy, respectively, the show keeps audiences on the edge of their seats while also tickling their funny bones. Since the series revolves around a true-crime podcast, people might wonder if Bodkin is based on a true story. Let’s find out!
What is the True Story Behind Netflix’s Bodkin?
Bodkin is not based on a true story. Though the series is centered on true-crime podcasters, its events and plot are entirely fictional. The show is a satire on how some podcasters get way too dramatic while discussing a true crime and blur the lines between facts and fiction.
To engross the audiences, the show’s makers put the message ‘Based on a True Story’ in the trailer; however, it was followed up with a footnote reading,...

NBCUniversal is looking to wring more money out of Peacock subscribers, with the streamer set to raise prices this summer — one year after its last fee hike — going into effect for new customers ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
Beginning in mid-July, the price for Peacock Premium (with ads) will increase by $2 to $7.99 per month and Peacock Premium Plus (mostly ad-free) is also going up by $2 to $13.99 per month. Peacock Premium’s annual price will increase from $59.99 to $79.99, while Premium Plus is going from $119.99 to $139.99 per year.
The new prices will be effective starting July 18 for new Peacock customers and for existing subscribers with their next billing date on or after Aug. 17.
The Peacock Premium Plus tier provides ad-free content, the ability to download episodes and live local NBC channels. Due to streaming rights, per NBCU, a “small amount of programming” still contains ads on some Peacock channels, events, and a few shows and movies.

Getting ready to make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Comedy Supporting Actor? Be sure to take a tour of our photo gallery that showcases the leading contenders. Reigning victor Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”) is generally expected to retain his crown and thus become the 18th man to clinch this particular award more than once and the 13th to do so twice consecutively.
Whereas Moss-Bachrach was his program’s sole featured male nominee last year, he could very likely be joined in the upcoming lineup by three of his cast mates: Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, and Oliver Platt. All of said actors have never been recognized in this category before, but Platt has five outside notices under his belt, including a 2023 guest one for “The Bear.”

Nearly ten year after the Emmy Award-winning first season, “The Jinx” is remarkably back on HBO. Andrew Jarecki, Marc Smerling, and Zac Stuart-Pontier’s engrossing docuseries about the string of murders connected to Robert Durst built to a now-infamous climax, and will return with more story to tell April 21.
Before that, it’s worth revisiting the 2015 series and decades of headlines it interrogates. “The Jinx” gripped its audience with mounting evidence against Durst and a scintillating narrative structure, but also quickly came under fire for manipulating the timeline and even Durst’s hot mic recordings for dramatic effect. In 2015, IndieWire’s Matt Brennan pointed out that “The Jinx” set an impossible standard for documentary drama — one that the series itself had arguably not cleared in the first place. Jessica Kiang wrote that “This is not Jarecki’s gotcha so much as it is a self-initiated, cloudily motivated performance piece of Durst’s,...

The Flight Attendant has been grounded.
The Max series starring and executive produced by Kaley Cuoco has been canceled after two seasons at the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer. The latter of those two seasons streamed in the spring of 2022.
Sources say Max had been considering a third season of The Flight Attendant but recently decided not to go ahead with it.
Based on a novel by Chris Bohjalian, The Flight Attendant centers on Cassie (Cuoco), an alcoholic flight attendant drawn into a world of espionage when, in the first episode, she wakes to find a dead man in her hotel bed. The first season covered the events of the novel and was initially billed as a limited series. After becoming something of a breakout success for the fledgling, then-named HBO Max, the streamer ordered a second season, which draws the character into another mystery as she moonlights as a CIA asset.

Tom Bateman and Daisy Ridley are notoriously private when it comes to their relationship. The stars, who began dating shortly after meeting on the set of their 2017 film "Murder on the Orient Express," only recently confirmed they're married after years of engagement rumors. "Yes! I got married," Ridley told Rolling Stone in January. The Star Wars actor didn't reveal anything else about their nuptials, which isn't surprising considering the pair have remained tight-lipped about their romance over the years.
"What I do know is that when I signed on to 'Star Wars,' there was nothing in my contract that said, 'Your life will be talked about,'" Ridley told Tatler in 2020. Since so many details about her personal life are already public, Ridley is determined to keep her relationship with the "Based on a True Story" actor as private as possible. "People knew my mum's name, my dad's name,...

Exclusive: Peacock is touting the success of The Continental: From the World of John Wick.
The Lionsgate-produced series premiered its first episode on September 22, only to become Peacock’s biggest original launch of the year, meaning that the episode reached more accounts in its first weekend than any other original offering, according to NBCUniversal.
Following the release of the remaining two episodes, The Continental now ranks among the top five Peacock originals of all time in terms of reach, joining the ranks of Bel-Air, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, Poker Face, and Based on a True Story.
Based on the current top five, it appears Peacock is finding success with both existing IP as well as original concepts.
Of course, The Continental falls under the former, as it explores the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins that is at the center of the John Wick universe. Though its already a billion-dollar franchise,...

No lie: Peacock is ordering a second season of Based on a True Story.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has picked up the series, a comedic thriller from UCP and starring Kaley Cuoco (who also executive produces) and Chris Messina. The first season debuted in June and earned mostly favorable reviews; detailed viewing data is, per usual with streamers, not public, but the series did land in Nielsen’s top 10 rankings for the week of its premiere.
Based on a True Story is, in fact, based on (or at least partly inspired by) a true story, while also satirizing true crime tropes. The series stars Cuoco and Messina as Ava and Nathan, a down-on-their-luck couple who cross paths with an infamous serial killer in Los Angeles. Ava, a true crime obsessive, hits on the idea of making a podcast with the killer as a way out of their rut.
The cast also includes Tom Bateman,...
