The Visual Effects Society has composited the nominees for its 22nd annual Ves Awards, which will be handed out next month. Disney’s The Creator and Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lead the field with seven noms apiece, and HBO’s The Last of Us tops TV with six. See the full list below.
The annual Ves Awards will be handed out during the group’s 22nd annual ceremony February 21 at the Beverly Hilton. They recognize outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in 25 categories spanning features, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists who bring this work to life.
“The artistry, ingenuity and passion of visual effects practitioners around the world have come together to create remarkable imagery,” said Kim Davidson, newly elected Ves Chair. “We are seeing best-in-class work that elevates the art of storytelling and exemplifies the spirit of innovation.

The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

Over the last several years, The Game Awards have slowly replaced E3 as the biggest gaming event of the year. While that’s largely due to the number of reveals and exclusive trailers the show has treated us to during that time, The Game Awards are still about…well, the awards. So here is what you (hopefully) need to know about tuning into this year’s nominee reveal show as well as a few of our predictions about which games might secure the biggest nominations.

Since the Marvel’s Spider-Man games are open-world titles, the developers at Insomniac Games naturally had to give them a fast travel feature. Moreover, because the first two Spider-Man games launched on the PlayStation 4, the devs had to program loading screens to keep players entertained while the consoles processed the request. As a PS5 exclusive, Spider-Man 2 does away with those loading screens, but it doesn’t really need them anymore because of how awesome (and awesomely fast) the game is.
To fast travel in the PlayStation 4 versions of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players have to select a landmark, hold down the “X” button, and watch a cutscene of Peter Parker riding the subway. It’s a fun little touch that acts as a character moment for the illustrious web-slingers and also helps players forget the console is loading a new area.

It’s not unusual for an actor to land a role in a superhero project that eventually launches them into stardom. However, it’s a different pair of shoes for actors specializing only in voice acting. Voice actors are committed to portraying their roles without revealing their faces, and despite their enormous talent, it can be pretty hard for a voice actor to reach the level of fame of Hollywood’s most prominent stars.
However, some actors gained their celebrity status precisely through voice roles. The best example is probably Kevin Conroy, the legendary Batman voice actor who portrayed the character in DC Animated Universe and Rocksteady’s ‘Batman: Arkham’ trilogy. Another example is Troy Baker, who is known for portraying numerous video game characters, including Batman and Joker. After these two, the best example that crosses our mind is Yuri Lowenthal, who is best known for portraying Peter-Parker/Spider-Man in Insomniac Games’ ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.
