- The eleven teams travel from Lombok, Indonesia to Hue, Vietnam. Many teams struggle to find flights out of Indonesia. One team asks about getting off the island by bus, while another team cannot agree on how they should get to Vietnam, causing sparks to fly.—Allister Coots
- At the end of their mandatory rest period, models Sam & Renae open their clue, which instructs them to fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where they have to travel to Ho Chi Minh Square and search a hundred women wearing nón lá hats for one that holds a fan with their respective names on it. Once they find their fan, they can exchange it for their next clue. Because the traditional colours of The Amazing Race, red and yellow, are also the national colours of Vietnam, the flags that mark the location of clues in that country have the alternate colours of yellow and green.
The teams could choose to get from Lombok to Denpasar Airport by either plane or boat. Sam & Renae are joined by brother and sister Ryot & Liberty on the first flight to Denpasar Airport. Dating couple Anastasia & Chris, who took a boat to Denpasar, join them on the first flight to Ho Chi Minh City, which is scheduled to arrive at 12:30pm.
After the plane lands, all three teams make their way to Ho Chi Minh Square and run around the women as they frantically search for a fan with their names on it. Sam & Renae are the first to find their fan, which they exchange for their next clue, which instructs them to fly to Hue and then find the Tran Than Mai Garage, where they will receive their next clue.
Anastasia & Chris and Ryot & Liberty are not far behind Sam & Renae as they take a taxi to the airport. The three teams arrive at the airport at around 3:30pm, just as the second flight from Denpasar, which went via Kuala Lumpur, arrives, carrying sisters Alana & Mel, Muslim friends Mo & Mos and surfers Tyler & Nathan. As they search for their fans in Ho Chi Minh Square, married bikers Dave & Kelly arrive on the third flight from Denpasar, which went via Singapore. The final four teams, workmates Anne-Marie & Tracy, father and son Jeff & Luke, farmers Matt & Tom and married entrepeneurs Richard & Joey, take a flight from Denpasar to Ho Chi Minh City via Jakarta, which lands at 6:15p.m.
The remaining teams find their fans in Ho Chi Minh Square and travel back to the airport by taxis, and all eleven teams find themselves on the same flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue. That night, there is a mad scramble to the Tran Than Mai Garage, which ends when they find a sign telling them that the garage opens at 8am. Next morning, when the garage opens, the eleven teams all head for the cluebox inside and open up their next clue, which tells them to choose an ex-Army jeep with a driver, and replace the jeep's tyres and change the oil in order to receive their next clue. Things get chaotic when some teams get themselves under flowing oil or falling cars, and some break their fingers on the wheel nuts.
Jeff & Luke are the first team to finish servicing their jeep, and receive their next clue, a Detour with the choices of Carry Fowl or Carabao. Teams choosing Carry Fowl have to make their way to Bang Chicken Farm, where they have to catch twenty chickens and carry them in a traditional Vietnamese carrying basket on their shoulders to a marked stall at the local market, where they will receive their next clue. Teams choosing Carabao have to steer a carabao, or water buffalo, and its plough through a marked rice field. Once they unearth a flag, they will receive their next clue.
Jeff & Luke, along with the next two teams to finish the task, Anastasia & Chris and Alana & Mel, choose Carabao, while Nathan & Tyler, Dave & Kelly, Matt & Tom and Mo & Mos all choose Carry Fowl. Nathan & Tyler are first to complete the Detour, and receive a clue instructing them to make their way to Khai Dinh Tomb. Sam & Renae choose Carry Fowl, and get to the chickens as Matt & Tom make it to the market, while Ryot & Liberty and Anne-Marie & Tracy choose Carabao.
Over in the rice field, Chris is the first person to find a flag for his team. Richard & Joey are the last team to complete the service on their jeep, and as they receive their Detour clue, they say "105" as a code word for them to hustle and pick up the pace - it refers to Joey's record number of squats. They choose Carry Fowl and complete the task ahead of Mo & Mos. When their carabaos refuse to cooperate, Ryot & Liberty, Alana & Mel and Anne-Marie & Tracy decide to switch tasks, but Jeff & Luke persist at the task and soon find a flag. The other teams arrive at the Kai Dinh Tomb, and there they receive the Road Block. One person from each team has to make their way to Minh Mang Tomb and collect seven coins, which represent the seven emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Each coin is located on its own table, and the clue directs teams to take note of the lines of history associated with the coins at each table. When the people have all of the coins, they have to bring them back to the Kai Dinh Tomb and put them in order of the reign of the emperors. Once they find the right order, they will receive their next clue. The people can travel between Kai Dinh Tomb and Ming Mang Tomb as many times as they need to in order to come up with the correct order.
The person who does not perform the task has to wait at the Kai Dinh Tomb, a point that Anastasia & Chris only realise when they are halfway to Minh Mang Tomb, so Chris goes back to Kai Dinh Tomb while Anastasia continues on to Minh Mang Tomb. Some of the teams decide to completely write the history blurbs of each emperor, not knowing what they would need them for. Nathan and Tom are the first people back to Kai Dinh Tomb, but they soon realise that they have no idea about the order of their coins. As they head back, the last three teams to complete the Detour arrive at the Road Block and join the eight teams ahead of them.
Sam and Kelly are the next people back, but they also decide immediately to return to the Minh Mang Tomb. Anastasia is back next, but she decides to stick with the information that she has noted, a decision that pays off when she gets the order of the coins right. She and Chris receive a clue telling them to make their way to the Pit Stop at the Citadel. Nathan and Tom return for a second time and they soon get the correct order, allowing their teams to set off after Anastasia & Chris.
When Anastasia & Chris get lost on their way to the Citadel, it allows Tyler & Nathan to find the Pit Stop first. As the winners of this leg of the race, they receive two tickets to the 2011 Australian Football League Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, plus a VIP tour of the MCG's National Sports Museum. Matt & Tom are the second team to check in, while Anastasia & Chris find their way to the Citadel in time to check in third.
At the Minh Mang Tomb, Sam and Kelly decide to work together, completely snubbing Joey, who is not too concerned about Kelly's dislike for her, saying that what goes around comes around. Mo and Luke are next to find the right order for their coins. After Kelly, Sam and Joey all return to Kai Dinh Tomb, Sam gets the order of the coins correct, and tells Kelly the answer, to Joey's frustration. Joey decides to make another trip to Minh Mang Tomb just as Anne-Marie returns and gets the order right to her and workmate Tracy's giddy amusement. They are still giggling as they leave for the Citadel.
Mo & Mos are the fourth team to arrive at the Citadel, but having been marked for elimination in the previous leg, they have to serve a 30 minute penalty. This allows Jeff & Luke to check in fourth, Sam & Renae fifth and Dave & Kelly sixth. When the penalty time has been served, Grant calls Mo & Mos back to the mat and checks them in as team number seven, ahead of a still happy Anne-Marie & Tracy in eighth.
Joey and Mel return to the Kai Dinh Tomb, but Joey still can't get the order of the coins right, so she asks Mel for assistance. When Mel gets the order right, she asks Joey to give her a couple of minutes head start, which Joey is happy to give, figuring that the time it takes her to copy Mel's order of the coins, receive the clue and return to Richard is enough of a lead to give to the sisters. As Richard and Joey leave, Ryot comes back from Minh Mang Tomb and gets the order of the coins right, making it a three-way scrap to avoid a certain elimination.
At the Citadel, Richard & Joey run right past Alana & Mel to their annoyance, though it makes little difference as both teams are still in the race, checking in ninth and tenth and leaving Ryot & Liberty as the last team to arrive, and the first Australian team to be eliminated.
