There’s unlikely to be a review of Before Dawn written that doesn’t mention director and star Dominic Brunt’s Emmerdale connection. Brunt has starred as Paddy Kirk on the long running soap since 1997, and is one of the show’s most recognisable stars.
What many people perhaps do not know, is that Dominic is a huge fan of the horror genre, even going so far as to host the Leeds horror festival on an annual basis. And now, Brunt has taken the next logical step and has directed and starred in Before Dawn.
Brunt’s wife Joanne Mitchell stars alongside her husband, and was responsible for the story behind the film. She produced a detailed scene-by-scene breakdown and then enlisted the help of another Emmerdale connection,...

If there’s one thing that Horror teaches us, it’s that Royalty, the Aristocracy, the Captains of Industry, the rich and powerful generally, are not like the rest of us. They are vampires or lizards; they prey on us, or hunt us for sport; they indulge in grotesque, shapeshifting, “shunting” orgies; they go canvasing for Parliament on Scottish Council Estates with their Nannies in tow… They are freaks and perverts, sadists and degenerates. And there is nothing they cannot get away with; or so it seems.
But maybe things are about to change. The horrible freaks are about to get… exposed, once and for all, in Grimmfest 2017‘s closing film, the Northern Premiere of… Attack of the Adult Babies

In the first of his FrightFest interview series, host Stuart Wright talks to actor-turned-director Dominic Brunt about his latest film Attack of the Adult Babies, which has its world premiere at the festival on Saturday 26th August.
From Dominic Brunt, director of Before Dawn and Bait, a satirical and sexy shocker unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. A home invasion forces two teenagers to break into a remote country manor and steal Top Secret documents. Little do they know the stately pile is also the venue where a group of high-powered middle-aged men go to take refuge from the stresses of daily life by dressing in nappies and indulging their every perverse nursery whim. Or that this grotesque assembly intends to refuel the world’s economy by very sinister, sick and monstrous means. Time for a change…

Adult Babies gets an exclusive reveal at Horror Channel FrightFest Glasgow 2017, in anticipation of the event, actress / producer Joanne Mitchell – star of Before Dawn and Bait; and creator of Adult Babies – answers 10 scary questions…
When did your fascination for horror films begin?
I’ve been interested in horror since being a young kid. I liked to be frightened, whether it be reading a scary book, or watching one of the Hammer House of Horrors. But it wasn’t until my 30’s that I really became fascinated with the whole genre after making ‘Before Dawn’ and watching back to back movies at FrightFest!! The fans are so loyal and open minded and really know their stuff.
What was the first horror film you saw?
I’m pretty sure it was ‘The Thing’. If I remember rightly my brother and his mates had managed to get a copy and I snuck in!

White Settlers, directed by the Grimmfest film festival's head honcho Simeon Halligan, is a tense, nightmarish tale of a couple who escape from the fast-paced life of London to live in a remote cottage in Scotland. But, as they soon find out, they are far from welcome.
Written by Ian Fenton, the film also stars Lee Williams ("The Tudors") and Joanne Mitchell (Before Dawn).
Synopsis
It’s Ed and Sarah’s first night at their new home, an isolated farmhouse. This should be a new beginning away from their stressful London lives. And at first it is; come sunset they fall in love all...

Dominic Brunt is probably best known as Paddy in the ever-popular soap Emmerdale but he is increasingly gaining a reputation as a first-class horror filmmaker, and on the eve of Before Dawn receiving its network TV premiere on the Horror Channel, Brunt reveals how a row with his wife led to the making of the film, news on his next feature Deleted and why he’s always been a massive horror fan…
What inspired you to make Before Dawn?
I have always been a massive horror fan and within the genre, I have always enjoyed a good zombie film the best. I co-run the Leeds Zombie Film Festival each April so this gives me an excellent excuse to watch many more. My wife however, really doesn’t fancy them much at all and always criticised my choice of viewing. She is much more interested in European cinema and in particular,...

On Friday, October 25th, we took a trip to Sheffield, South Yorkshire, to enjoy three days of premier horror programming at the Celluloid Screams film festival. Take a look in here for some of the fear-filled sights and sounds to come from the Sheffield Showroom Workstation this year.
Nestled next to Sheffield Hallam University, the Showroom Workstation cinema offers a haven for local film buffs, students and artists, and also sports one of the most impressively relaxed café bars of any film screening establishment we've been to thus far. Real ale on tap – kudos! Upon walking through the doors and approaching the box office, your attention was immediately drawn to the selection of severed body parts and cobwebs hanging at head height. This also extended to the bar and concessions stand, lending a nice kooky, spooky feeling to the weekend's events.
Pass holders for the festival also received a complimentary goodie bag on arrival,...

Emmerdale actors Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock are to host a Zombie Film Festival in Leeds for a sixth consecutive year.
The pair, who play friends Paddy Kirk and Marlon Dingle on the ITV1 soap, will screen a collection of movies featuring the walking dead at the Cottage Road Cinema in Headingley on Sunday, April 21.
Six films - a mix of modern and classic movies - will be shown over 12 hours at the event, which runs from midday to midnight. One film in particular called Before Dawn is very close to Brunt's heart as he starred and directed in it.
Brunt said: "Mark and I have been spending our time arguing and fighting over the lineup and it's a strong year mixing foreign, classic and brand new. Every single film is a crowd pleaser.
"Also, I cannot wait to show Before Dawn to its own rightful crowd as we couldn't show it last year.

Gory British horror Before Dawn (2012) was born from an argument between husband and wife Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell. The film's original concept came from two opposing opinions of what makes a good zombie movie, and what frequently makes a bad one - namely, what's missing and what needed adding to. To celebrate the DVD release of filmmaker and actor Brunt's flesheater flick, we have Three copies of the film to give away to our readership on DVD, courtesy of the generous team at Metrodome Distribution. This is an exclusive competition for our Facebook and Twitter fans, so if you haven't already, 'Like' us at facebook.com/CineVueUK or follow us @CineVue before answering the question below.

Two things I am sick of in horror: 1. Found footage films and 2. Zombies. The shambling corpse of the zombie film has been milked to death over the last ten years starting with 28 Days Later and up to now where we somehow have romantic zombies in Warm Bodies. Every couple of years though amongst the legion of zombie films that make up roughly 65% of the year’s horror releases, a couple will shine through and do something original. Last year it was Cockney’s Vs. Zombies and Juan of the Dead, which whilst not revolutionising the sub-genre, had a fresh approach which made them better than they should have been. Now the first film in 2013 which does something, whilst not entirely new at least refreshing with the zombie is Before Dawn.

With the film set for a DVD release on February 25th, here’s a Dan’s emotive review of Before Dawn from last August’s London Frightfest – Phil

Film maker Marc Price, director of the £45 zombie film Colin, has finished work on his second feature film Magpie – previously known as The Coffin – which was financed by Emmerdale actor Dominic Brunt (who himself made his film debut with a zombie film, the well-received Before Dawn), and tells thetragic story of a negligent young father who returns home for his 9-year-old, shark-obsessed son’s funeral. An unwelcome guest, he steals the coffin and finds himself on the road with the child’s mother and two friends.
Magpie was shot on location in London, Cornwall and Price’s native Swansea. Without a script, Price instead opted to workshop scenes with the actors based on a carefully designed structure. What follows is a journey with no destination, just a desperate desire not to return. Very different from Colin, Magpie is a dark relationship drama with significantly higher production value.

As 2012 draws to a close, here’s yet another top 10 list for you to have a read through.
One of my goals for 2012 was to try to go outside of the genre’s I’d usually frequent and expand my horizons. As you’ll see from the list, that wasn’t terribly successful. While you’ll see things like Beasts of the Southern Wild, Amour, The Master, and Moonrise Kingdom on other lists, you’ll not find them here because I haven’t seen them.
There are also films that I can’t include here because they don’t count as 2012 releases: American Mary, Maniac, and Sleep Tight are three of the best films I’ve seen this year, but they’ll have to wait for inclusion next time.
10) Shame
Shame is not a fun film to watch. It’s a bleak, depressing look at one man’s sex addiction...

Round three of Celluloid Screams and the final day was unfortunately marred by a technical hitch that saw Memory of the Dead pulled due to a sound system that gave up the ghost at the last minute. Which meant I suddenly had a lot of time to kill, as I'd already caught Dominic Brunt's Before Dawn at Grimmfest and didn't like it much, but the festival-goers took this in stride for the most part - I saw more annoyance from regular members of the public being told re-organising the remaining screenings meant a handful of non-festival films had been cancelled for the morning. Despite these disappointments Celluloid Screams still wound up in style, with some of the strongest films I've seen all year. I even...

Very few zombie movies are actually about the zombies. Whatever their scope and scale, these are generally stories about troubled people trying to keep on doing what they do even while the world's coming to an end. And the idea that maybe they'd finally manage okay if it weren't for, you know, the shambling corpses eating everyone in the background. You still have to care about these reluctant heroes, though, and it helps if they actually acknowledge the walking dead - if the zombie apocalypse forces them to confront the idea that things are never going to be the same again no matter how hard they try.Dominic Brunt's Before Dawn never really manages either of these things. It's the kind of début that it hurts...

Inbred
Stars: Jo Hartley, Seamus O’Neill, James Doherty, James Burrows, Dominic Brunt | Written by Alex Chandon, Paul Shrimpton | Directed by Alex Chandon
Up north we don’t like outsiders in Yorkshire coming and trying to take over. We live on farms and drink at the local pub and keep our shotguns ready just in case… well not really, but there are a few villages with their local pubs where outsiders are frowned on and strangers watched with a nervous and distrusting eye. This is the world of the League of Gentlemen, American Werewolf in London, Emmerdale, and now Inbred.
The premise for Inbred is quite simple really; a group of young offenders (from the look and sound of them “southerners”) are taken on a weekend trip into the countryside of Yorkshire. They soon find themselves lost in the village of Mortlake where the locals like to spend their time...

You might not have heard of Whoops!, the new film from York-based production company MilesTone Films. But if you went to the Edinburgh Film Festival a couple of years ago you might have attended a screening of CrimeFighters, their micro-budget noir superhero flick, and if you’re any kind of web series follower you’ll no doubt have come across the irreverent and hilarious Zomblogalypse, the company’s flagship work – and soon to be awarded the feature film treatment come 2013. If you’ve listened very closely you may even have heard tell of a little movie called Amber, MilesTone’s other new film, yet to be released.
These filmmakers certainly couldn’t be accused of resting on their laurels, having championed the spirit of local, ultra-independent productions and getting some pretty good reviews in the process. Whoops! looks set to be one of their biggest successes – and with a significantly...

Two more films have been added to the Grimmfest 2012 lineup - one feature and one short - and we have all the details you need right here! Grimmfest runs 4th-7th October in the UK at Manchester's The Dancehouse theatre.
The feature film is Before Dawn, which was born from an argument between husband and wife Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell. The film's original concept came from two opposing opinions of what makes a good zombie movie and what frequently makes a bad one. What's missing and what needed adding to. Before Dawn is the result.
Synopsis:

What starts off as a gripping psychological drama between a struggling married couple suddenly descends into a shocking gruesome nightmare. Special Event: Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut
(UK/USA) – Dir. Clive Barker / Restoration Director. Russell Cherrington
The turbulent production of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed is the stuff of legend, and the film released in 1990 was a far cry from Barker’s original novella, with many significant scenes excised by the film’s producers. Presumed lost for over twenty years, the footage surfaced in the form of two separate workprints and has been integrated with scenes from the original theatrical version to create The Cabal Cut – a fully fleshed-out monster epic that captures Clive Barker’s original vision in vivid detail.

For our money in order to make a zombie movie good, the zombies themselves have to look bitchin'. All too often young indie filmmakers just apply powder and then stage blood onto folks and then claim them to be the living dead. That's akin to sticking plastic vampire teeth in your mouth and saying you're Dracula in terms of effectiveness.
One thing's for sure regarding the new indie zombie flick Before Dawn ... they really seem to be on the right track. Check out the first teaser stills below from Dominic Brunt's Before Dawn, which is being produced by Colin director Marc Price.
Brunt also stars along with Nicky Evans in this tale of a feuding couple on a make-or-break weekend, who find their chances of a romantic reconciliation spoiled when their cottage comes under attack by zombies.
