After two weeks atop the box office, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was bested by newcomer Civil War by $10.2 million to lose the box-office weekend crown.
In its first weekend of release, the A24 action/thriller Civil War from director Alex Garland debuted in first place with $25.7 million. This pushed two-time champion Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to second place where it brought in $15.5 million for Warner Bros.. This gives the film a three-week total of $157.9 million. Meanwhile, GhostbustersL Frozen Empire held its ground to remain in third place where it added $5.8 million for Sone Pictures Releasing to lift its four-week total to $97.0 million. Climbing a spot from last weekend to land in fourth place was Kung Fun Panda 4 which took in $5.5 million to bring its six-week total to $173.7 million for Universal Pictures. Also climbing a spot from last weekend was Dune: Part Two which took fifth place with $4.3 million.

All-female Korean-pop act Aespa will release its first concert film “aespa World Tour in Cinemas” from next month.
The film will have a limited run playing globally on April 24 and 27, it was announced by Trafalgar Releasing, one of the firms behind the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie.
The company did not disclose the local releasing partners but said that the film will play in premium formats, including ScreenX, 4Dx and Ultra 4Dx where available.

In a battle of two Universal titles at the U.K., Ireland box office, animation film “Migration” flew to the top, besting star-studded caper “Argylle” in the process.
“Migration” debuted with £3.5 million ($4.4 million), according to numbers from Comscore. “Argylle,” a global under performer, bowed in second place with £2 million.
In third position, in its third weekend, Paramount’s “Mean Girls” earned £843,601 for a total of £6.8 million. Disney’s “All of Us Strangers” collected £797,004 in fourth place in its second weekend for a total of £2.7 million.
Rounding off the top five was A24’s “The Zone of Interest,” which debuted with £585,855. The only other bow in the Top 10 was Curzon-Amazon MGM’s “American Fiction” with £389,375.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has signed a worldwide catalog deal with Concord Originals for rights to three Rodgers & Hammerstein films. The distribution pact involves two classic Hollywood films, 1958’s “South Pacific” and 1955’s “Oklahoma.” It also includes a filmed Royal National Theatre production of “Oklahoma!” that was staged in 1998 and starred a pre-Wolverine Hugh Jackman. The films will be released on VOD and other home entertainment platforms in the fourth quarter of 2023. Goldwyn will also release all three films in new DVD and Blu-Ray anniversary editions.

Concert film to debut on October 13.
Global advance ticket sales for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film already exceed $100m worldwide, AMC Theatres Distribution and AMC Entertainment said on Thursday.
The film will kick off on October 13 in most of what AMC said was a confirmed 8,500 theatres in 100 countries around the world.
AMC Theatres Distribution said it has reached agreements to show the concert film at nearly 4,000 theatres. Beside AMC, the world’s largest exhibitor circuit, the film will also show in the numbers two and three circuits Regal and Cinemark and other US sites booked by Variance Films.

Warner Bros’ superhero sci-fi Blue Beetle and Universal’s canine comedy Strays head the new titles at the UK-Ireland box office, in a post-Barbenheimer test of how the market can handle two wide studio releases.
Opening in 556 cinemas, Blue Beetle is the third feature from Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto. In the film, after an alien scarab chooses a teenager to be its symbiotic host, the youngster becomes the eponymous superhero with an unpredictable suit of armour.
Xolo Mariduena leads the cast, which also includes Bruna Marquezine, Damian Alcazar, George Lopez and Adriana Barraza.

Sony’s “No Hard Feelings” bowed in third place with £1.18 million, while Universal’s “Asteroid City” debuted close behind in fourth position with £1.17 million.
