I though there were some good sketches here along the way, with Gyllenhaal proving himself to be a good comic performer.

Of course it's hit and miss - SNL always is, but the good outweighed the bad here for me.

An Improvement From The Previous Episode

This episode was an improvement from the Jerrod Carmichael one. While it was a mixed bag, I felt it had more good sketches than it did bad ones. My favorites included "Why'd You Like It", "Dream Home Cousins", and "Truck Stop CD". "Spring Flowers" was funny, but it was too dirty for my liking. "Cabaret Night" was my least favorite. That was fell flat to me. Weekend Update was good, but even though jogging to Kelly Clarkson is out, that doesn't stop me from doing it. Overall, it was good, but it wasn't great.

I felt like this week was a downturn from the previous one, no real fault of the performances or guest star, just weak skits. Maybe the real-world events going on as this episode was broadcast made them feel the need to keep this week "light", but so many of the sketches ended up feeling very flat.

The flowers skit was just not funny and went on too long. The game show skit punchline was one note, introduced immediately, and also went on too long.

And why is Weekend Update so short now? It's like the cast can't think of new characters to introduce during WU, so the entire thing was just shortened due to lack of content.

SNL, do you need some new writers? Some fresh blood? Plenty of talented people out there, maybe you should hire some.
