The Aftrs Open Summer School — now in its third year — has expanded to 17 intensive courses, including a new six-week doco school and a six-week film school.
These introductory and intermediate film courses running between November and January are designed for intensive learning and the chance to upskill in the rapidly changing media landscape.

The 8-part series stars Thomson as George Turner, who quits his job as an 800 word columnist for a Sydney newspaper after his wife dies and, on impulse, buys a house in a remote New Zealand seaside town.

Matt Le Nevez has been cast as a detective who becomes a manipulative and dangerous antagonist to her character. in the eight hour series which starts shooting in Tasmania next month.
Foxtel commissioned the drama, the first collaboration between writer/producer Vicki Madden.s Sweet Potato Films and Porchlight Films.
The directors are Rowan Woods and Tony Krawitz, with scripts by Madden, Andrew Knight, Cate Shortland and Louise Fox. Andy Walker is the series producer.
Screen Australia and Screen Tasmania are investors in the $15 million production and BBC Worldwide has international sales rights.
Madden.s writing credits include Lynda La Plante's Trial and Retribution, The Bill, Blood Brothers, Sea Patrol, Water Rats, McLeod.s Daughters and The Flying Doctors.

Australian Singapore co-production Bait 3D, a sharksploitation disaster film continues its strong run at the Chinese box office, taking nearly $20m with over 2.77m tickets purchased. The film is ranked number one and its success has meant the producers have already announced a second.

Bait 3D was picked up for North American distribution by Anchor Bay Films, unfortunately, we still really have no idea precisely when we’ll see this one on the big screen, or just how far release will stretch. Across the various categories, the nominations include Justin Kurzel for Snowtown, Matthew Saville for The Slap, Tony Krawitz for The Tall Man, Paul Scott for documentary series Outback Fight Club and Bruce Hunt for Subaru Xv’s Carwash.
The ceremony will be held as part of the Adg’s 30th anniversary at the Australian Maritime Museum in Sydney on May 11.

Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Griff the Invisible, Red Hill) will star in the feature film debut by Academy Award nominee Peter Templeman, due to commence shooting in Sydney in August.
Templeman’s short films have won over 30 major film festival awards. His 2007 short The Saviour (2007) garnered him an Oscar nomination.
Kwanten will star as Jonah, a young guy who discovers he has only a month before he becomes infertile, and must find someone to have his baby before it’s too late.
