Ray Richmond is contributing to Deadline's coverage of TCA. With their seriocomic firefighter drama Rescue Me ending its run on FX in September, series co-creators Denis Leary and Peter Tolan are embarking on another series project together. "I guess I can say right now that Mr. Leary and I are tomorrow starting writing on our next show, a half-hour for him to star in," Tolan told Deadline today after the TCA panel on the final season of Rescue Me. He described it as "strictly a comedy, like nothing we've done before. It's not a traditional comedy, probably for cable. We're doing it totally on spec and taking it out." Before Rescue Me, Leary and Tolan co-created the underrated ABC cop comedy The Job, which also starred Leary. Tolan said that after 10 years of working together, first on The Job and then on Rescue Me, he figures that he and Leary...

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

As fans of Pretty Little Liars know, Tyler Blackburn can definitely look good in the shower. But can he make viewers laugh?
NBC is banking on it, as the actor has been cast in Brave New World, a single-camera sitcom that focuses on quirky characters who work at a 17th century-themed park.
Blackburn joins Ed Begley Jr. and Nick Braun on the series. He will portray a man named John Lichtfield.
What does this mean for Pretty Little Liars? Blackburn will still be available to portray Caleb.
says producer Olive Goldstick: "There is hope for Caleb/Hanna fans when he returns. [Tyler] will be available to us until July, so we’re not that concerned.”...

Pretty Little Liars‘ Tyler Blackburn is leaving Rosewood again — this time for a Brave New World, as in the title of an NBC comedy pilot.
TVLine has learned that Blackburn has officially joined the cast of Peter Tolan’s (Rescue Me) quirky single-camera project, playing John Lichtfield, just one of many unusual characters in the workplace comedy that follows a pack of theme park employees who specialize in recreating 1600s New England.
Veteran actor Ed Begley Jr. (St. Elsewhere, Six Feet Under) and Nick Braun (10 Things I Hate About You) are already set to star in the potential series.

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

Ed Begley Jr., Nick Braun (Red State) and Will Greenberg (Cloverfield) have been cast as leads in Peter Tolan's comedy pilot for NBC Brave New World. It's about three months until the broadcast networks unveil their lineups for the 2011-12 season. But why wait till then to pick out a few new shows we'd like to see?
Now that we're in the heat of pilot season and actors are starting to fill up roles, we're getting a better sense of what shows sound interesting. The (very large) caveat, of course, is that we haven't seen any of them yet -- because they haven't finished (or in many cases, even started) filming. But based on a combination of premise, creative team and casting, here are a few of the projects we'll be keeping our eyes on between now and the upfronts in May.
"Ringer" (CBS): Sarah Michelle Gellar's possible return to TV is a drama in which she plays a woman on the run from the mob. She hides out by assuming the life of...

After a rather aggressive pilot season that has spared no expense in terms of big names (Stephen Spielberg, David E. Kelly, Chelsea Handler, Debra Messing, Peter Berg, Michael Patrick King, Jack Black, etc.), NBC has more or less finished ordering pilots for 2011-12. All in all, there are 24 pilots in total (11 dramas, 13 comedies) and a lot of 'em don't sound half bad.
I know, you can hardly tell anything by titles and descriptions, as shows good on paper can be executed poorly and shows that sound ridiculous can be the funniest or most touching show around, but now that we finally have every order in, it's not a bad idea to look through what they have here, what they need, and where they're going as a network.
What they have here is a whole lot of risks (especially on the drama side), but that's what it's going to take in...

NBC is pretty much done ordering pilots for the 2011-12 prime time season and, under the new leadership of Robert Greenblatt, the network seems to be doing exactly what it needs to dig itself out from behind CBS and Fox: It needs to go big and bold. (Right now, NBC ranks third among adults 18-49 with a 2.6 rating/7 share and fourth in viewers, with 7.8 million). Though the network has picked up its share of (safe) comedies, it’s definitely taking some much-needed risks with drama development. The Wonder Woman project from David E. Kelley may come with a high-price tag,...
