The gag rule, in which British television agreed not to broadcast discussions on subjects which scheduled to be debated in Parliament within the next 14 days, was eliminated in 1957. On account of the Suez Crisis, the BBC and other news outlets chose to ignore the rule and broadcast coverage anyway.
