Swizz Beatz released his new album, Poison, on Friday. It’s a star-studded yet restrained affair. Swizz has made a lot of friends in his two decades in the game, and he uses his collaborators well here. In most cases, that means each guest rapper is doing the best version of what they’re known for. Nas’ “Echo” delivers what most were hoping for on Nasir, skating over a soul sample and looped guitar; Pusha T is at his darkest on “Cold Blooded“; 2 Chainz continues his streak of making any...

Paul Dewey was just a boy in 1959 when his detective dad was assigned to investigate the brutal slayings of the Clutter family, who had been found bound and shot to death in their Holcomb, Kansas, farmhouse that November.
The crime — which stunned the tight-knit, trusting community — gained national attention, and eventually infamy, after author Truman Capote traveled there to research it for his 1966 book, In Cold Blood.
Capote’s non-fiction account, a bestseller of both wide acclaim and criticism (for its sometimes murky blend of factual reporting and fictional flourishes), soon became a 1967 film and is now thought of as...

SundanceTV has released the full-length trailer for “Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders,” Joe Berlinger’s docuseries about the crime that inspired Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood.” That nonfiction novel (a phrase Capote coined) was adapted by Richard Brooks into an acclaimed drama starring Robert Blake and Scott Wilson, and Philip Seymour Hoffman won an Oscar for portraying its author in “Capote.”

The quadruple murder took place in Holcomb, Kansas in 1959. Two men, Richard “Dick” Hickock and Perry Smith, entered the home of their victims in the belief that Herbert Clutter, the family patriarch, kept as much as $10,000 in his safe; there was less than $50 in the house. Clutter, his wife, and their two young children were all killed after being bound and gagged.

David Madden may be exactly the executive that AMC needs right now. Madden, who has just been hired as the new president of original programming for AMC, Sundance TV and AMC Studios, is well-liked, creative, and has done it all as a producer, studio executive, and network boss.
The mandate for Madden (who recently stepped down as Fox Entertainment president) is clear: Like most outlets, AMC Networks is hungry to produce — and own — more of its own content. That’s why, in addition to overseeing programming for AMC, the exec will also do the same for Sundance TV and AMC Studios — the shingle tasked with producing more programming for the AMC Networks suite, which also includes BBC America and IFC.

Ever get that feeling you're running in place? That you've ended up back where you began? Turns out that Grimm Season 6 Episode 11 has an odd case of this.
For all those Grimmsters who have been longing for an episode devoted exclusively to the big arc with the Magic Stick and the weird symbols and everything, they certainly got... something.
Who in the world is making these prophesies, I have to ask?
Much of this episode's action depended on Eve's ludicrously unwise choice to just pop through the mirror-portal on her own in the previous episode.
Obviously, it never occurred to her (nor anyone else, seemingly) that this might simply give old Skullface (er, Zerstörer) what he wants. Playing into his hand, as it were.
Anyway, when Nick traipsed through the mirror after her, it devolved into an unintentional comedy of errors, with both of them running off randomly from the...

I’m sure I’m not the only person to say this, but I’m going to go ahead and say it anyway; Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a very special title for me as it is the game that got me into online multiplayer shooters. Cherished by many, Infinity Ward’s critically lauded shooter darling was arguably the shot in the arm the Fps genre needed back in 2007 and helped catapult the Call of Duty brand into the cultural phenomenon it has become today.
Fast-forward 9 years and the juggernaut series’ dizzying rollercoaster success story seems to be hitting a few bumps; most notably, that trailer. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s sci-fi reveal trailer received a record number of dislikes earlier this year, and rapidly became the second most disliked video on YouTube. It’s understandable, too, as there are a number of reasons why some fans,...

If you’ve been loving Zhu‘s debut album as much as we have, then you owe it to yourself to hear it on vinyl. The cryptic DJ/producer has released limited-edition opaque blue vinyl records of Generationwhy, and we’re giving three away to lucky contestants.
“Palm of My Hand,” “Cold Blooded” and “Secret Weapon” are only a few of the tracks featured on Generationwhy, which came out today through Columbia Records. As a whole, the album perfectly encapsulates Zhu’s impressively unique style, with instrumentals samples that would only sound richer when played on analogue equipment.
Zhu made his debut with 2014’s “Faded,” but remained largely anonymous until 2015. Even after revealing his identity as Stephen Zhu, his music has continued to resonate with a wide audience.

In every pop culture era, there are always a handful of artists who just plain make sense for what’s going on in music. Zhu may have gotten his actual start a couple years ago, but his unique, melancholy style of electronic music made the post-edm landscape of 2016 the ideal time to release his debut album, Generationwhy.
A series of dreamlike soundscapes encapsulate the full breadth of the Los Angeles DJ/producer’s first studio-length effort. Without resigning himself to any particular genre, he manages to seamlessly blend elements of house, hip-hop, jazz and rock in a way that doesn’t come across as forced. Even the prominence of instrumental samples from song to song seems genuine; for the most part each arrangement consists of only what it needs to with little added for filler.

Los Angeles producer and master of non-marketing Zhu had begun to release songs from his debut album, Generationwhy, all the way back in February – but he’s had this one, titled “Palm of My Hand,” on the back burner far longer, having dropped it in his sets for over a year now.
The track begins with a melancholy electric guitar solo before Zhu’s own vocals share the arrangement with a series of other instrumental samples. A female voice speaking in French accompanies a violin melody at the end of the track, making it one of the artist’s more acoustically rich productions.
Zhu opened his BBC Radio 1 debut last year with “Palm of My Hand” – in addition to using it in numerous live sets throughout his 2015 tours. The single has seen negligible changes, if any between now and then, which means that he’s held onto it specifically to...

Zhu‘s highly anticipated debut album has finally received a concrete release date this week. Titled Generationwhy, the producer’s first full length work is due out on July 29 via Columbia Records, and will follow up his critically acclaimed Genesis Series Ep from last year.
To coincide with the announcement, Zhu dropped a trailer for an upcoming short film that will accompany the new album this summer. The trailer features a cryptic totalitarian storyline that will no doubt leave fans wanting more.
Generationwhy is available for pre-order now on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play, and fans who purchase the album before its release date will have instant access to the tracks “In The Morning,” the title track “Generationwhy,” and the Skrillex and They collab “Working For It.”

This review contains spoilers.
5.1 The Grimm Identity
“They took my mom’s head!”
And so begins another season of fun and games for our favourite folklore-inspired series.
If you remember, last season’s finale saw Grimm’s first major character get killed off in the form of Hexenbitch Juliette, courtesy of two arrows to the chest from Truble. This occurs just hours after the show’s hero, Nick Burkhardt, stumbled upon his mum’s severed head, Se7en-style, which had been left for him to discover by (the now-deceased) Kenneth and his pack of royal attack dogs.
So as if the violent deaths of the two women he loved most isn’t enough – it’s clearly not – this opening episode sees poor Nick get...

1: Dr No – Opening Title Sequence
The schizophrenic title sequence introduces John Barry’s famous James Bond theme, but instead of transitioning into the now traditional pop song (which uses the title as a lyric), random portions of two calypso songs were used instead. This was also of course the first of Maurice Binder’s many fantastic title sequences, and while some of the standard conventions are absent (such as the silhouetted nude bodies floating about), we still do get the lines of white dots sliding across the screen before transforming into a gun barrel, through which Bob Simmons fires his gun. From then it’s on to a procession of primary colours and shapes and an Atari-like animated sequence. All in all, this remains one of the most distinctive opening title sequences of the series.

Review Christine Horton 17 Dec 2013 - 16:59
Grimm sees off the year with a double bill featuring sewers and a very bad Santa. Here's Christine's review...

3.7 Cold Blooded & 3.8 Twelve Days Of Krampus
NBC decided this week to shoe-horn two episodes of Grimm together in a ‘double feature’ before a short mid-season break over the holidays.
That of course, is fair enough. However the two episodes really had little in common, and were only broadcast together due to scheduling issues, so it’s probably best to just enjoy the extra episode as a pre-Christmas treat from the network.
Firstly we had Cold Blooded, which was a reminder for anyone who remembers watching the 1980s B-movie classic Alligator as a kid, to beware of what goes on in a city’s sewer system.
Nick and Hank are sent to investigate two separate murders where both victims were shaken so...

Grimm gets a much-hyped two-part sendoff this week; unfortunately, the buzz winds up hampering the mood, sending the show off to hiatus with more of a pleasant smile than the bang many were likely hoping for. “Cold Blooded”, which is Grimm’s answer to the resilient legend of alligators roaming the sewers, is entertaining enough, but it’s rather disposable. “Cold Blooded” and “Twelve Days of Krampus”
Part 1 Written By: Thomas Ian Griffith
Part 1 Directed By: Terrence O’Hara
Part 2 Written By: Dan E. Fesman
Part 2 Directed By: Tawnia McKiernan
Original Airdate: 13 December 2013

We’ve actually got two episodes here, squished together as a two-hour special.
In “Cold Blooded”
The guys investigate a crime scene which, at first look, appears to be a robbery gone bad. But the guy who came home and interrupted the thief has his arm ripped out of the socket. The M.E. later says that, while there were a number of injuries that could have been fatal, the cause of death was a broken neck, as if he had been shaken so hard his neck snapped and his arm dislodged.
A second victim surfaces. Jimmy, a city worker, was being lowered into a sewer to check for signs of a blockage.

"Grimm" has a pretty huge and festive fall finale planned for Friday (Dec. 13). Just don't expect the show's take on Santa to be any less dark and creepy than their takes on Baron Samedi or El Cucuy were, though.
In fact, when asked to describe the two-parter "Cold Blooded" and "Twelve Days of Krampus," Bitsie Tulloch simply says' "It's so twisted." That goes for both "Grimm's" take on alligators in the sewer and the legend of Krampus. "I think that the alligator scene with the limbs being torn off, that's pretty bada**," Tulloch teases of "Cold Blooded."
As for "Twelve Days of Krampus," she says, "It's a very twisted take on Santa. Nick [David Giuntoli] and Hank [Russell Hornsby] end up on the news for doing something kind of naughty themselves. Kids that are naughty, you're not going to want to be naughty after you see this episode. It's something that's going on...

"Grimm" is finishing off its first arc of Season 3 with a bang. An epic two-hour fall finale premieres at 9 p.m. Friday (Dec. 13) on NBC, and fans of the series can expect more of what they love in the new episodes.
Zap2it had a chance to get an early sneak peek at "Cold Blooded" and "Twelve Days of Krampus," and they're pretty awesome. Here are some early teases to get you excited for tonight's two-hour event.
Someone really hates Christmas. Which doesn't work out great, because someone else in the "Grimm" gang really loves the holiday. Expect to see some more personal backstories revealed in "Twelve Days of Krampus."
An evil Santa might not be the scariest thing around. This two-part scarefest is putting the emphasis on the legend of Krampus, but honestly, those alligators in the sewer in "Cold Blooded" are pretty darn terrifying. Especially when you're cornered in a sewer with them.

Though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 won’t hit theaters until next May, the sequel’s viral marketing campaign is already making comic-book fans tear out their hair. Previously, we reported on rumors that the Marc Webb-helmed series may be moving towards the formation of the super-villain posse known as the Sinister Six, and now the film’s Tumblr site, The Daily Bugle, which reports on fictional news from the series’ universe, has provided another tantalizing hint regarding potential antagonists for future installments.

Written by Ned Leeds, the article discusses the aftermath of Connors’ biological attack on hundreds of New Yorkers:

Bobcat Goldthwait, Buddy Giovinazzo & Joe Dante Among Fantasia Fest’s 2013 Frontieres Co-Prod Market
Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival – it takes place this year between July 18 and August 6 and has always been about more than just the films. They offer plenty of panel discussions and master classes every year, and last year’s edition introduced the Frontières International Co-Production Market, uniting North American, European, and Australasian talent and funders in an initiative focused specifically on fostering genre film productions and relationships. Noteworthy projects from the inaugural edition included new works from seasoned filmmakers such as Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) and Bruce McDonald (Pontypool), as well as up-and-coming talent like Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Resolution), Paul Campion (The Devil’s Rock), Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun), and Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are). At the Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous – a sort of three-day industry cocktail party – professional introductions were made, and many of the projects found co-producers and/or international sales agents.

2: Dr. No – Cold Blooded Murder
There’s little doubt...

In a year stacked with plenty of good crime flicks, you have to do something to make your film stand above the crowd. Fast-paced editing, well framed shots, stylized camera work and witty dialogue are all ways to help create a memorable film. While Cold Blooded does get a tad more brutal that most other films of its ilk, it’s just not quite enough to really make it stand apart. Cordero isn’t such a bad guy. He steals diamonds, sure, but he’s not hurting anyone. Insurance takes care of the people he steals from and hey, he’s a nice guy. But when his latest heist goes south, he ends up in a hospital bed with a cop at his door and a murder rap around his neck. He also happens to be the only one that knows what happens to the diamonds and it’s for this reason that his partner Louis Holland is...

Cold Blooded
Directed by Jason Lapeyre
Written by Jason Lapeyre
Canada, 2012
Writer/director Jason Lapeyre delivers a simple but fierce crime flick in Cold Blooded. This low budget Canadian thriller is one of those movies in which pacing, dialogue and the right cast bring life to a familiar setup. The cast is uniformly strong and Lapeyre’s script makes smart choices from start. The premise has a nice hook and the film is lean, clocking in at around 90 minutes. There’s no deeper meaning to Lapeyre’s thriller than what meets the eye, yet it offers great and guilt-free pleasure. Think Die Hard, but minus the terrorists and replace Bruce Willis with a strong female lead. Lapeyre’s filmmaking is by the book, but there is great promise here for the director if given a bigger budget for his next project.

There's always something to be said for a quick and efficient crime thriller that introduces its characters and premise in an efficient manner, and then keeps throwing you bloody curve balls before jolting to a finish in less than 90 minutes. The new Canadian flick Cold Blooded isn't exactly deep, dense, or swollen with subtext, but it does offer a great female lead, a rather novel plot hook, and it keeps you interested in between the action bits. That last part is always important in a low-budget thriller, and it's something that writer/director Jason Lapeyre is aware of. It only takes some simple but strong dialogue, a few interesting characters, and something the audience can root for (or against), and then they're putty in a filmmaker's hands.
It's a simple flick, but Cold Blooded is also a very fun flick. It's about a young cop (Zoie Palmer) who is assigned...
