"Blair/Gina" 2nd Episode
butterflyseriesandmovies22 August 2022
It's important that you welcome each episode with an open mind and accept the fact that every human being entered the Zombie Apocalypse in a different way than we imagined in the main series, and that's what Tales of TWD is all about. Episode 2 titled: "Blair/Gina" is an episode that deconstructs any kind of story ever seen in the TWD Universe. The endless cycles of the main characters are somewhat repetitive and tiresome, but the touch of humor in this episode was necessary to break the slowness of the story told. Repetitive cycles may seem unnecessary to some, but in this case it makes a lot of sense when 2 women who hate each other start to live experiences ("déjà vour") and learn from their own mistakes until they get it right and become better people in the face of an acceptance almost imposed by fate. And what started to be chaos for many for them was just a new beginning to really do the right things on this new journey. Parker Posey and Jillian Bell had their performances highlighted mainly in the final 20 minutes worthy of a good laugh. The episode has a good direction by Michael Sastrazemis and an innovative screenplay.

It's an interesting premise and was better than I expected but all the episodes after this is what I was really looking forward to, especially the Alpha episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Rate them what they are really worth not the one like this show is an enemy to you.

I'm surprised actually after watching it It was not significant but more than okay to rate 7 1 to 5 is really unfair Think a little they have put an effort in this shows However i know it is wrong.

TWD did not cross genres: it's all in the protagonist's head
Volanis416 August 2022
This is not confirmed within the episode, so it's not a spoiler.

In fact I'll avoid spoilers so more people will see this, it's important to put the minds of concerned fans at ease. It is not confirmed but there are clear signs that what is happening here, apart from the first 5 minutes, is a fever dream. We only ever follow one of them and they're dealing with their former self and how they treated people.

So yes TWD maintains plausible deniability here. Unless this story is continued and doubles down.

Purgatory loop?
itsleander16 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When first watching the episode I was like WTF is happening. I watched it again and I think both Gina and Blair both died during the first explosion and then they found themselves in some sort of purgatory loop before they turn into walkers.

Of the five I've watched this one is the best
brucecsnow19 September 2022
The pacing of this episode is good and backstory doesn't consume too much attention. Although the characters are flat, there is a redemption arc which is missing in many of the other stories. Acting is OK but is doesn't need to be great. Special effects are at times comical.

This episode is more twilight zone than walking dead. Or Office Space meets TWD.

The first two episodes of this series are enjoyable. The others aren't. I may stop watching. Actually I've either watched or fast forwarded through all six episodes. Too many dimly shot scenes with COVID spacing.

Really? A 600 character review requirement? That's longer than many of the scripts. Ridiculous.

Worst Walking Dead Episode
revieweranarchy7516 August 2022
They had so much potential to make the start of the outbreak episode really insane. Yet they decided to play an endless time loop of the same crappy scenario. So many editing mistakes like when Blaire runs past the truck and then all of a sudden she's inside the truck? Like the acting, writing, special effects, and overall story were so far below average, it's hard to forget when the Walking Dead was once great. Whoever likes this nonsense probably have become Disney-fied and never actually watched the glory days of the Walking Dead when it was the number one show on television. This nonsense and complete mess shows that Scott Gimple has reached old age and probably couldn't write a childrens show for all its worth. Again, worst episode ever, so avoid unless you want to be annoyed and cringed out for an hour. I literally had to stop at the third groundhog day because in the walking dead universe this episode makes absolutely no sense and again, it was the definition of trash. Whoever says this episode is good is smoking Heisenbergs blue.

TWD Nails Comedy
amongpixels14 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This marks the first time The Walking Dead Universe has ever attempted something that is a through-and-through comedy, and to my complete surprise, it works amazingly well. Posey & Bell's performances and chemistry is a joy to watch (their reactions to the increasingly absurd events are perfectly humorous, and their comedic timing is on-point), the wacky premise is leaned into with just enough self-awareness, the music is at times both fun and heartfelt, and the narrative takes its time to develop a genuinely sweet and enjoyable relationship between the two leads. And while the plot does distractingly rely on the police agent being completely incompetent, Blair/Gina is a ultimately a really nice story about the painful mundanity and pettiness of life being uprooted by an apocalypse and freeing two people, making them become their better selves.

Echoes of TWD
sysgoddess22 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An enjoyable mildly humourous episode containing looks at details revealed in early seasons of The Walking Dead of the virus possible origins at the CDC in Atlanta. Parker Posey & Jillian Bell play credible roles in this nod to Groundhog Day.

In the very beginning Blair mentions the CDC being practically next door and other details that will be familiar to long time or avid viewers of the original TWD should already clue you in to what is about to occur but the relationship of the 2 main characters is the real draw here.

I was not a fan of this episode at the start but by 15 minutes in I was invested and hope to see more of these characters in later episodes.

Wrong universe folks
opensorce15 August 2022
This story does not belong in TWD in any way. It's entirely based on never before seen elements of other sci-fi genres that have no basis and no precedence in TWD. TWD universe elements more or less shoehorned in here and there to try to make it seem like it has some vague reason to fit in this series. It doesn't work. It's universe and lore breaking. Just skip this one.

It's Parker Posey-let yourself enjoy the camp
brianne-sharpe15 August 2022
It's Parker Posey. It's going to be camp, and it's going to be fun. Let the episode be it's own thing, and you'll enjoy it. TWD has always been about the people. This is just a different lens, and it's fun if you let it be fun.

Not buddies, not a comedy.
avnrulz23 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was NOT 'The Walking Dead universe', this was 'Groundhog Day meets George Romero'. Never before have we had such an off the wall episode. From S1 E1 of TWD we were taken into a world where, though we had to believe 'the dead can walk', everything else was believable. This takes us into the world of make-believe, as in 'Groundhog Day'. They talk about 2 years elapsing during the time loop, which means they're operating 'outside of time' from everyone else we've come to know.

When the anthology was announced I was looking forward to 'six new shows' but so far I've not been excited.

The worst so far
rmmil24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've written a couple of TWD universe episode reviews that I said were "the worst ever", and I was writing the truth when I said that.

What I should have said was..."The worst...so far", because they've proven they can always get worse.

Case in point, episode 2 of "Tales". I know the biggest problem people seem to have with this episode is the attempt at a genre shift: Horror sci-fi to just straight up Twilight Zone sci-fi, but that's not my biggest problem with it.

My biggest problem is just the out and out laziness of the writing itself. TWD has never had Shakespeare quality writers, but my gosh guys could you TRY to make an engaging story? Some sense?

The day is repeating...because. The leads never react to the first person being eaten...because. The leads eventually break their loop...because.

And if all that wasn't bad enough, having each loop repeat signal being a woman really annoyingly screaming...AMC you are SO BAD at this!! Give the franchise to someone else who might save it.

This episode is gold
justdan202316 August 2022
I didn't know what was happening in the episode but I love it. Gina and Blair are sooo hilarious. The time loop thing and the disorder is a bit unrealistic but goddamn I really enjoyed it. Tales has been great so far, in fact, it has gone way over my expectations so I can't wait for the alpha/Lydia episode.

Blair and Gina need a few more episodes - this was more of a Sam Raimi-esque episode and I'm here for it. The wacky misadventures of a narcissist and an over-thinker ... enjoyed it!

Warning: Spoilers
Dajavu episode. They keep dying but remembering they did while no one else does. This episode should have no place in twdu not to mention the awful green screen and low budget effects and the same 2 main sets. The entire thing is just off pace. I was expecting to see the world falling apart instead you got some mid actors and low effort story writing complaing about the same garbge in different ways for 40 minutes. Do not waste your time watching this its going to add no value to your life and only depress you.

Folie à deux
slak96u19 August 2022
One if the best TWD episodes, ever.... a breath of fresh air into the series, much needed and well done. I'm sure many a TWD fan will absolutely hate this episode, but if the franchise wants to grow into a new audience, installments like this one are needed. Both Posey and Bell are as good as you would expect them to be, truly a highlight.

It'll take some abstract thought to "get" this episode by the viewer, if it's taken completely literal it doesn't work, it's a confusing mess. I thought it was brilliant, and surprisingly well written. Kudos to Kari Drake who penned this episode, she also wrote for the absolutely spectacular Severance.

TWD is rarely this innovative, never has an episode been so out of the stale universe most of the franchise exists in. Unbelievably divergent, fantastically done.

Absolutely the worst episode in Walking Dead History
mhorg201822 August 2022
I thought that every single episode of the boring, badly written, horribly acted The World Beyond were the worst episodes of TWD. Boy, was I wrong. If this is an ANTHOLOGY about THE WALKING DEAD, how can it be groundhog day? Is the next useless let's beat this thing to death spin-off going to be a comedy? Because here's the harsh truth: This episode sucked. It wasn't funny and has no place at all in TWD universe. It's a stupid idea. Now, if they'd had one character dreaming this as they were eaten-that might work. But as an episode? This was worse than the first stupid, illogical, silly episode. This goes down there with trash like Survival of the Dead. Just bad, bad, bad all around.

Extremely fun episode
pearson25215 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
You're going to hear alot of purest talk about the time loop that doesn't belong in a scifi show because its never been there before? Here is the thing about scifi, nothing absolutely nothing is off limits especially in this anthology set up one and down. People need to stop gate keeping art. Because when you let it go, you'll have so much fun with the episode the absurdity of it, isnt any different than zombie, the fact that no zombie movies existed in this universe. Did people complaining when they put zombie in both dc and marvel? No. They enjoyed it. This episode characters just shine parker posey at her best.

Just bad
gustavosb-0244314 August 2022
Bad editing, bad acting, bad script.

Just bad.

And it doesn't fit on the walking dead universe because it goes from a realistic scifi with horror and thrill to a basic deja Vu movie/episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 was amazing! Blair/Gina. SPOILER****It's an outside the box Groundhog Day episode. Great comedy and self realization. I can't recommend it enough. I immediately rewatched it and it was even better the second time knowing they're stuck in this continuous loop.

What is this? What the hell? I was so excited for this spin-off show, and we get this? I am so scared for the future of this universe, especially the Rick and Michonne series. This is just ridiculous, the creators of this show should be embarrassed. 100% do not recommend this episode, a must skip.

An unexpected, crazy episode that becomes enjoyable when you accept it for what it is.
frankiesilver-9183618 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When I started to realize what the premise of this episode was, I was initially disappointed that it wasn't more focused on the fall of Atlanta. However, I feel like that should be saved for a Glenn and T-Dog story anyway.

The concept we got here instead is really interesting and made for a genuinely funny episode. This was like some weird Groundhog Day comedy about characters you'd expect in a crazy sitcom like The Office and I surprisingly loved most of it.

A time loop at the beginning of the apocalypse ended up being a hilarious idea. The mental disorder reasoning was outlandish, but it's better if you don't think about it too much. Plus, thinking about what is and isn't real makes it more fun. At the end of the day, it doesn't break canon and the characters make it so much fun.

Blair was a great choice to lead this story. Her over-the-top acting worked great here and amps up the comedy. The goofy freak-outs Blair and Gina have work for their characters due to the weird setting.

I loved the dramatic effect fakeouts throughout like with the cigarette and Blair being bit. Still, the looping went on a bit too long and ended weirdly.

Another negative is how cheap the effects were. The last episode had the same issue, so I expect this is a recurring issue for all of Tales sadly.

At the end of the day though, I'm happy to see that even on a small budget they're trying to be really creative with some of these. I am just a bit worried they're becoming a little too out-there way early into this show's lifespan.
