Zac Efron has accomplished a feat that Disney stars historically struggle with: making a smooth transition from teen idol to adult actor. For a decade and counting, Efron's name has been nearly synonymous with the word "heartthrob." Ask someone who their celebrity crush is, and there's a good chance they'll name the "High School Musical" alum. But over the last 17 years, Efron has charted a steady and increasingly impressive path for himself in the film industry, proving he's here to stay.
Efron has carved out a niche that suits his talents, starring in primarily comedies and musicals, and while his catalog includes plenty of films that weren't critical or commercial hits, his talent shines through regardless. Further, with starring roles in dramas like "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile" and "The Iron Claw," Efron is currently making a major transition to serious, dramatic work. It's a challenge he's proven he can handle.

This March, we'll get to see how Michael B. Jordan fares with his feature directorial debut when "Creed III" hits theaters. But a little over a month before that, Jordan has made his hosting debut at "Saturday Night Live."
Though Jordan has mostly stuck to more dramatic and action-oriented roles on the big screen, he's shown a hint of his comedic abilities with "That Awkward Moment" alongside Zac Efron and Miles Teller and a hilarious cameo in "Space Jam: A New Legacy." But thankfully, Jordan was more than willing to have plenty of fun when he took the stage at Studio 8H. Whether it was sloppy physical comedy, making fun of himself, appearing as Creed alongside a recurring character, or hilariously failing in an attempt at a Dominican accent, Jordan helped usher in one of the better episodes in the 48th season of "SNL."

It’s last call for a number of noteworthy movies leaving HBO Max in December. If you remember “Project Popcorn” – the strategy that saw all 2021 Warner Bros. movies stream on HBO Max the same day they hit theaters – then “Mortal Kombat” and “Those Who Wish Me Dead” will sound familiar. The martial arts reboot and Taylor Sheridan thriller, respectively, will be leaving the streaming service this month.
It’s also final call for Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” the extended version of Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor” and Edgar Wright’s terrific sci-fi action-comedy “The World’s End” if auteurs are your thing. “Planet Earth” and “Planet Earth II” are also leaving the streaming service soon.

Michael B. Jordan has gone from child star to teenage heartthrob to Hollywood heavyweight before our eyes. An immensely talented actor who had his breakthrough in 2013's "Fruitvale Station," Jordan is one of the most in-demand actors working today. A favorite among cinephiles, Jordan has been recognized by critics groups around the world; he also received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his turn as the unrelenting yet sympathetic villain Killmonger in "Black Panther," which he shared with the rest of the film's cast.
But Jordan does more than just act. He produced 2019's "Just Mercy," and he's set to make his directorial debut with 2023's "Creed III." In fact, his turn as Apollo Creed's son, Donnie, helped solidify him as a bonafide star — we can't wait to see what he does behind the camera. Before "Creed III" hits theaters, here are the 12 best Michael B. Jordan movies, ranked from worst to best.

"Saturday Night Live" will return to NBC for its 48th season starting on October 1, 2022. There's been a lot of activity behind the scenes with the loss of eight total cast members. More recently, series regulars Alex Moffatt and Melissa Villaseñor left the series along with featured player Aristotle Athari. With its list of new releases for July 2022, HBO Max is stepping up its TV game. Not that any entity associated with “It’s Not TV, It’s HBO” would ever not bring the televised goods, but the small screen is of particular consequence this month.
The middle of July is jam-packed with TV goodies like docuseries The Anarchists (July 10), rescued animated project Tuca & Bertie season 3 (July 11), and the latest Nathan Fielder creation The Rehearsal (July 15). The real heavy hitter arrives later on though. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin premieres on July 28 and will introduce the next generation of the Pll franchise. It doesn’t have a release date yet but July will also host season 3 of the delightful Harley Quinn at some point.
HBO Max’s movie offerings aren’t as deep this month. The Bob’s Burgers Movie (July 12) and We Met In Virtual Reality (July 27) are really the only originals of note.

While you may not remember when the stature of Nicolas Cage and his acting ability became the stuff of legend, rest assured it did and Tom Gormican’s film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sets out to ensure that everyone recognizes how utterly fantastic Mr. Cage is.
The film follows actor Nicolas Cage as, facing an uncertain financial future and dwindling acting prospects, he is forced to accept a rather lucrative offer to appear at the birthday party of a wealthy fan played by Pedro Pascal. Intending to retire after the party appearance rids him of his debts, Cage finds himself recruited by CIA agents Vivan (Tiffany Haddish) and Martin (Ike Barinholtz) to provide intelligence on his superfan, whom they believe to be a notorious drug smuggler.

Thousands descended on downtown Austin last week for the return of a beloved festival, but nobody was having a better SXSW than Nicolas Cage. The actor came to town just long enough to bathe in a hero’s welcome: He starred in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” playing a fictionalized version of himself coming to grips with his rocky career, which received such extensive applause throughout its premiere at the Paramount Theater that it may as well have been a rock concert.
One Cage obsessive posted flyers around town begging the actor to call him, which he eventually did. Lionsgate paid a trio of performers to dress up in oversized Nicolas Cage costumes, and hosted a late-night after-party for the movie where his face was adorned on colorful sequin pillows. During the Q&a, festival director Janet Pierson awarded Cage with a rodeo champion belt dubbed the “40 Years of Massive Talent” award.

Nicolas Cage’s sometimes over-the-top performances, complete with meme-worthy lifted brows and bulging eyeballs, are getting their own showcase. “People think I’m not in on the joke,” the headline of his 2013 Guardian profile reads. Lest there be any doubt, he’s now acted in and produced a feature-length film to prove his point.
Channeling the meta-ness of “Adaptation,” Cage stars in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” as a debt-ridden, washed-up actor named Nick Cage and as Nicky, his alter ego and a bad angel of sorts who appears to be 1980s-vintage Cage, here to facilitate internal dialogue. Per the film’s concocted biographical details, he has an ex-wife named Olivia (Sharon Horgan), a makeup artist he met on the set of “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” and a teenage daughter named Addy (Lily Mo Sheen), who thinks Humphrey Bogart was an adult film performer.

Nicolas Cage’s current status as a crazed-eyed paycheck-hunting star of contemporary schlock cinema seems to have reached the new evolutionary stage of conjuring meta-minded movie mirth with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. With Cage set to portray himself, it appears that the film has honed in on a momentum-riding co-star in Pedro Pascal.
Lionsgate is in talks with Pascal to co-star opposite Cage in the film, reports The Wrap. Should the deal be finalized, Pascal will play Javi, a character described as “a Nic Cage superfan who is not all that he appears to be.” The co-starring duo will be in front of the camera for director Tom Gormicon, who is known as the co-creator—alongside Kevin Etten—of Fox’s single-season 2017-2018 supernatural comedy, Ghosted, and a lone feature credit in 2014 ensemble comedy That Awkward Moment, which starred Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Zac Efron, Mackenzie Davis and Imogen Poots.

Zac Efron is getting his head back in the Disney game! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Efron will be starring in a remake of Three Men and a Baby for Disney+ - a big reunion for both the film company and the High School Musical star. No other details have been revealed, but the 1987 comedy originally starred Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson as New York bachelors Peter, Michael, and Jack, respectively. However, the real question is: who will join Efron in the reboot? We have a few ideas.
Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller
Efron already has experience palling around with Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller from their 2014 rom-com That Awkward Moment - this would be easy work for these guys. Plus, I could totally see Teller growing out a strong Sellack-style 'stache.

Exclusive: Treehouse Pictures has set in motion what it’s describing as a diverse remake of 1991 coming-of-age comedy, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is being written by Chuck Hayward with Bille Woodruff attached to direct. Hayward’s take is a present-day retelling centered on a black family.
Treehouse’s Justin Nappi and Juliet Berman are producing along with Oren Segal. Executive producers are Michael Phillips — also an Ep on the original — Juliana Maio and Tova Laiter.
The 1991 film, which was directed by Stephen Herek, starred Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and Josh Charles. It follows Sue Ellen Crandell, a teenager who is forced to take charge of her four younger siblings when their mom leaves town and the wicked babysitter her mother hired suddenly dies. Despite the fact that the film wasn’t a huge success critically or commercially, it amassed a significant cult following.

Nicolas Cage will play Nicolas Cage in a new film about Nicolas Cage, called The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent.
Nicolas Cage is about to play himself in a painfully meta - but mostly fictional - comedy movie about his illustrious craft, and this undertaking will apparently include a look back at his roles in John Woo’s 90s actioner Face/Off, among others.
The actor told Empire magazine that The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, which is set to begin filming imminently, will see him “taking the piss” out of himself after a long cinematic career filled with spectacular highs and baffling lows where sometimes, due to his electric on-screen presence, those can still be interchangeable.
The film’s writer and director, Tom Gormican, has just one feature directorial credit to date - 2014 rom-com That Awkward Moment with Zac Efron - but Cage seems to trust...

Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg star in Vivarium, a mind-bending horror film from director Lorcan Finnegan.
Vivarium, a concept-driven indie horror film, is an intriguing showcase for stars Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg, taking shape as a sci-fi-themed drama about a couple stuck in a nightmarishly pleasant residence; one that doesn’t seem to exist in the real world and they therefore cannot leave.
Lorcan Finnegan directed the film, following up his 2016 feature debut, Without Name, which was preceded by award-winning shorts such as Foxes, Changes and Defaced. Finnegan worked off a screenplay by Garret Shanley, based off a story he helped develop.

Yes, you read that right, although not actually playing himself, Nicolas Cage is currently in talks to play a character named after himself in Lionsgate film ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The story centres around Cage, an actor desperate to nab himself a part in a Tarantino film. Neck deep in debt and at odds with his daughter, he constantly talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore.
The story begins when he finds himself forced to make an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire fan who secretly hopes to show him a script on which he’s been working on. Cage is informed by the CIA that the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential nominee and is recruited by...

From a flaming Marvel motorcyclist antihero in “Ghost Rider” to a rock-bottom alcoholic in “Leaving Las Vegas” to Charlie Kaufman and his made-up twin in “Adaptation,” Nicolas Cage has played seemingly every role under the sun. But there’s one role he hasn’t played, and it could be his biggest one yet: himself.
According to new reports, Nicolas Cage is in final talks to play Nicolas Cage in an upcoming meta movie titled “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” which could easily double as the title of the Academy Award-winning actor’s memoir. Lionsgate is also in final negotiations to scoop up the project, allegedly beating out other high-profile bidders including HBO Max and Paramount (as first reported in The Hollywood Reporter).

Saban Films Has Acquired Rights to SciFi Thriller Vivarium Starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg
Saban Films has acquired the domestic rights to the Lorcan Finnegan-directed film Vivarium, starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg. The film debuted at Cannes in May, and Deadline gives us the following description for it:
Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg star in the story of a young couple in search of the perfect starter home. After following a mysterious real estate agent to a new housing development, they become trapped in a maze of identical houses and are forced to raise an otherworldly child.
That sounds weird. I’m a fan of both these actors though, and it sound like an original idea, so I’m up for checking it out. How about you?...

When actors are asked about their career motivations, they often default to “just wanting to do something different.” Judging by her resume, however, Mackenzie Davis really means it. Over the course of only seven years and just over two dozen roles, the actress has already done a little bit of everything, sliding from indies to mainstreams films and back again, and that’s not about to change, even with Davis stepping into her most high-profile role yet.
Best known for her work in indies like “Breathe In” and “Almost Shine,” the actress is currently filming her biggest film to date: a “Terminator” reboot in which she’s rumored to be playing a “soldier-assassin from the future.” It’s the kind of movie that seems poised to catapult the 31-year-old performer into a different stratosphere, but before that, she’s still diligently stumping for her latest indie.

The following article contains minor spoilers for “Blade Runner 2049.”
In addition to a pair of memorable performances from Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, cinematographer Roger Deakins’ stunning visual work, and director Denis Villeneuve’s dystopian vision, “Blade Runner 2049” has one more element worthy of excitement: a supporting cast of new and rising stars. Many of them have already made their mark on indie cinema, like the perpetually working David Dastmalchian or the irreverent Carla Juri, while others will likely use Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic as a springboard for even bigger careers (like Ana de Armas, the film’s biggest find).

There’s a blunt charm to the exposition dump throughout “Ghosted’s” 22-minute pilot that probably shouldn’t come across. Characters relentlessly badger each other for information. Introductions are made without set-up, and the inexplicable is explained in just a few words. So much emotional backstory is spat out so quickly that it’s hard to see the first episode as anything more than set up. But hey, it’s still fun. Why? For the reasons you already know — all two of them.

An “X-Files”-style comedy? It’s not too good to be true, and it will be shooting in Los Angeles! “Ghosted,” which stars “Parks & Recreation” favorite Adam Scott and perpetual scene-stealer Craig Robinson, has received a series order from Fox. One of this past pilot season’s hottest commodities, the single-camera project comes courtesy of writer Tom Gormican (“That Awkward Moment”), and will depict Scott as a “true believer” of the paranormal and Robinson, his skeptical counterpart, recruited by the Bureau Underground to investigate “unexplained” events happening in L.A., which may pose a threat to the human race. Greenstein/Daniel Casting, credited with casting TV Land’s Betty White-starrer “Hot in Cleveland,” is heading up casting duties. Both Scott and Robinson will pull double duty as executive producers, along with Gormican, Mark Schulman, Oly Obst, as well as showrunner Kevin Etten (“Workaholics,” “Scrubs”). On the studio front is 20th Century Fox TV,...
