It’s good to be Paul Giamatti. With seven years of Showtime’s Billions under his belt, and a fresh Oscar nomination for The Holdovers in his rearview mirror, the legendary character actor can seemingly have his pick of any role he wants on the big or small screen. According to a scoop by notorious Hollywood tipster Daniel Richtman, he may have just chosen the most unlikely follow-up of all time: a TV version of Eli Roth’s Hostel from the controversial horror auteur himself.
While this might sound outrageous to some, Giamatti has been very open about his love of the genre, noting that he wants to add more horror to his filmography. He’s always carved out time in his schedule to be in genre stuff like the series 30 Coins, the movies Morgan, John Dies at the End, Gunpowder Milkshake, Shoot ’em Up, and more. He also...

Daniel Roebuck has racked up over 250 credits over the course of a career that has lasted nearly 40 years so far, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have just broken the news that one of his next credits will be on writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which is set to receive a theatrical release on October 25th. According to the site, Roebuck will be appearing in the film as Santa Claus. It seems fitting, because Roebuck was already in Santa mode for a family-friendly movie called Saint Nick of Bethlehem, which he co-wrote and co-directed. That movie will be released later this year as well.
Roebuck provided the following statement: “I’ve been holding this secret for a long time! I’ve been really excited about it. I’m actually entering into the movies that I watch. It’s extraordinary. This is Terrifier bigger, badder, best.“

Daniel Roebuck has been cast as Santa Claus in Terrifier 3, Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report.
Writer-director Damien Leone is currently wrapping production on the highly-anticipated sequel, in which Art the Clown unleashes chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.

Roebuck appears in Terrifier 3 alongside returning cast members David Howard Thornton, Lauren Lavera, Samantha Scaffidi, Elliot Fullam, and Aew superstar Chris Jericho.
No stranger to iconic horror properties, Roebuck has squared off against Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, played The Count in Zombie’s The Munsters, succumbed to The Tall Man’s sphere in Phantasm: Ravager,...

“If you tell them I want to be a human, I’m gonna burn the agency.”
That was Paul Giamatti’s reaction when his agents took issue with his desire to be cast as an ape in Tim Burton’s 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes. In a recent THR roundtable, the actor, who’s considered an Oscar front-runner for his starring role in Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, mentioned to the esteemed group, which consisted of Colman Domingo, Mark Ruffalo, Andrew Scott, and Robert Downey Jr, that to him one of the biggest highlights of his career was playing the orangutang “human-trader” Limbo, in that often-maligned film.
“If that had been it for me, I would have died happy. I couldn’t believe I would get to play a talking orangutang.” As cited above, he said his agents suggested he try to play a human instead, prompting his tongue-in-cheek threat.

Paul Giamatti is one of the most highly respected actors working in the industry today, and he’s also quite prolific, with over 115 screen credits to his name. Last night, he won a Golden Globe for his performance in the excellent comedy / drama film The Holdovers – and during a red carpet interview at the event, he revealed there’s one area where he feels his career is lacking: he hasn’t worked on enough horror projects.
Asked if there’s a genre he would love to work in, Giamatti answered, “Horror. I’d like to do more horror. I love horror.” When asked what his favorite horror movie is, he replied, “Oh, that’s a very tricky question. I like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a lot. I love horror. Love it!” When the interviewer was a bit shocked and appalled that Giamatti is such a Chainsaw fan, Giamatti stood up for it: “Great movie!

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

Elvis has a lot of buzz this awards season, but Baz Luhrmann didn’t get the story right. I'm no stranger to weird movie drugs, from the homemade hallucinogens created by the cult in "Mandy" to the seriously surreal Soy Sauce of "John Dies at the End," but doing worms is certainly a new one. In the upcoming horror film "All Jacked Up and Full of Worms," the movie's protagonists find their high by ingesting hallucinogenic worms. Check out the exclusive clip below to see exactly what kind of cinematic madness writer and director Alex Phillips has cooked up for fans of freaky films. It's only a tiny taste, but the full film will be coming to the Bloody Disgusting streaming app Screambox and VOD streaming services on November 8, 2022, just in time for everyone to start craving something spooky again after the horrors of Halloween.

Black Friday, every retail worker’s nightmare. We’ve all seen the memes comparing the mall zombies from Dawn of the Dead to shoppers pressed up against the doors, waiting for their chance to maim each other over a cheap TV set. Black Friday, every retail worker’s nightmare. We’ve all seen the memes comparing the mall zombies from Dawn of the Dead to shoppers pressed up against the doors, waiting for their chance to maim each other over a cheap TV set. And now, thanks to director Casey Tebo (Happy Birthday) and writer Andy Greskoviak, that meme has come full circle and inspired its own movie. Is it one worth lining up to get, or something to grab from the post-Christmas clearance rack?

Hello, everyone! Before we say goodbye to the month of July, we have one last round of home media releases on tap, and there are a lot of great films headed to Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K that genre fans are going to want to check out. Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick is the fun and fast-paced second book in the Zoey Ashe series by David Wong, writer of the John Dies at the End series. It picks up a year after the events in the first book, 2015’s Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, and follows Zoey Ashe and her Ashe Security team as the protagonist continues to adjust to her immense wealth and power.
Action-packed and full of humor, Zoey Ashe is Diablo Cody meets the Fast franchise. Fans of snarky protagonists and action that borders on the absurd will delight in this romp through the gaudy, technologically advanced Vegas-like city of Tabula Ra$a, a veritable gangsters paradise. Though this is the second entry in the series, Futuristic Violence isn’t a necessary prerequisite to enjoy the story. But it will make you want to...

The titular Artik (Jerry G. Angelo) is a comic book obsessed serial killer who spends his days sketching and his nights teaching his son Adam how to get away with murder, literally, until the boy befriends a mysterious man, Holton (Chase Williamson), who threatens to expose their horrifying family secret.
I’m not going to lie. There’s no way these days that I can give Any film starring Chase Williamson an unbiased review… The actor has been a solid performer for years, appearing in a myriad of genre films, including two of my favourite modern horrors: Sequence Break and John Dies at the End. As such I find myself enjoying films on his performance alone – and Artik is no different.

Without fail, at the start of every year, there’s a lot of chatter about how January is the prime dumping ground for “bad horror,” and I gotta tell you, it really bums me out. Sure, there will always be misfires released in any given month of the year, but as a whole, I love the month of January for horror, simply because it seems like for every dud, there are a few films that really swing for the fences, and you just never know what you’re going to get. And that’s the kind of stuff that keeps me going as a horror fan.
At some point in time, January got the reputation for being a wasteland for film releases of sorts, but even back during the 2000s, we were still getting a smattering of quality genre films during that month: Walter Hill’s Supernova in 2000, The Mothman Prophecies...

We tried very hard to find a new home, but there were no takers. Ratings, metrics, algorithms…que sera, brah. I will write a proper postscript soon, but for now a few thoughts.”

"I was born and raised in these woods… I'll be just fine."
Yeah... right. We all know what happens when people think the woods is a good place to go on a relaxing vacation. Dark and sinister things happen and people die! That's the truth because it happens in every horror movie that is set in the woods!
We've got a creepy trailer for an upcoming horror film called Dead Night, and it actually looks like it's worth checking out. But that's coming from a guy who loves watching horror movies, even the bad ones. I like what I'm seeing in this trailer, though, it looks like it going to be a wildly eerie horror flick with some surprising twists and turns.

He brought the imaginative worlds of Phantasm and Bubba Ho-Tep to life on the big screen, but for filmmaker Don Coscarelli, the behind-the-scenes making of his movies is just as enthralling as the fictional worlds he created. And with over four decades of experience in the film industry, Coscarelli has a lot of behind-the-scenes stories to share. Thankfully, these stranger-than-fiction moments will be collected in the writer/director's new memoir that's fittingly coming out this Halloween season.
Titled True Indie: Life and Death in Film Making, Coscarelli's autobiography was announced by EW, who exclusively revealed the cover art below. Set to be released by St. Martin's Press on October 2nd, the book will offer insights into the independent filmmaker's 40-plus year career, and it's going to be a must-read for countless fans of horror, fantasy, and independent filmmaking in general.

Horror movies don’t need to be expensive to get audiences screaming. Some of the genre’s key titles have used budgetary limitations to their advantage, creating creeping dread from the isolation of single locations or the simplicity of a killer hiding right behind the door in your own home. IndieWire has selected 11 scary films now streaming on Netflix that prove horror doesn’t need big stars or flashy SFX teams to create a big onscreen impact.

A teen school boy discovers a hidden, magical world right beneath his nose in Charlie Human's cult South African novel Apocalypse Now Now and if that brings a certain bespectacled boy wizard to mind, well, let's just say that South Africa is significantly less genteel than is jolly old England. Human's novel - and, yes, that is his actual, real name - is far more John Dies At The End than Harry Potter as it sends its protagonist careening through a frequently bizarre and often profane world ... a world so deeply fucked up that it's best hope of salvation is a teenage sociopath. Snarky, monster-porn-dealing teen, Baxter Zevcenko, might be a serial killer. His girlfriend, Esme, is missing, and he’s the prime suspect. To...

June ended up being a particularly busy month of releases, and here’s a look at three different indie films that I had the opportunity to check out over the last several weeks:
Camera Obscura: For his feature film directorial debut, co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz concocts his own “weird episode of Goosebumps” (to borrow a phrase from the film) in Camera Obscura, which feels like a mash-up of Shutter (the original, not the remake) and Final Destination, with a bit of a slasher twist thrown in for good measure. Koontz deftly maneuvers through familiar genre tropes to create an unexpected horror treat, anchored by a strong performance from Christopher Denham (Shutter Island, The Bay).
In Camera Obscura, we meet photographer Jack Zeller (Denham), who has been struggling with Ptsd after returning from shooting photos in the Middle East. His supportive fiancée, Claire (Nadja Bobyleva), decides to pick him...

As a producer on projects like Starry Eyes and The Sacrament, Camera Obscura co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz has been a fixture of the indie horror film community for some time now. On Friday, June 9th, Aaron B. Koontz’s Camera Obscura hits theaters before making its way onto VOD platforms everywhere just a few days later on the 13th. The psychological horror film stars Christopher Denham (Money Monster, The Bay), Nadja Bobyleva (Bridge of Spies), Noah Segan (Looper, Starry Eyes, Brick), and also features some other stellar supporting talent that should be familiar to genre fans, including Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End, Beyond the Gates), Andrew Sensenig (We Are Still Here), and Gretchen Lodge (Lovely Molly).
Daily Dead recently spoke to Segan about working on Camera Obscura with both Koontz and Denham, with whom he shares most of his scenes with. Segan also chatted about the privilege of being able to make movies with your friends, getting to be the “good guy,” and more.
