"Are we having a low blood sugar moment?"

This episode marks the return of a from now on rather important character as well as a reveal which will define a lot of the rest of the story. I wasn't too fussed about the main villain rather the lore it sets up at the end.

Freaky love

"Where Walks Aphrodite" was one of the 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' episodes that was seen a good deal later than a lot of the others, for some reason. On first watch, to me it was very well put together, very intriguing, very entertaining and very creepy with a memorable villain and continued to move things forward. Had no doubt on rewatch that it would be every bit as great and perhaps even better, as that was the case with all the previous episodes of the show.

Fortunately, "Where Walks Aphrodite" does not disappoint in the slightest. Not only is it every bit as great as on first watch, it manages to be even better. It's even funnier, even creepier, the ongoing mystery is even more intriguing than originally remembered and the villain Aphrodite is pretty unique when it comes to the villains from 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated'. As far as Season 1 goes, "Where Walks Aphrodite" to me is one of the best instalments.

Very little to fault here, but perhaps the episode could have gone into more detail about how Mr E knew what is revealed here.

Everything else is truly excellent and more. The animation has genuine eeriness and a lot of atmospheric colouring. Especially the effects of Aphrodite's love spell and the frightening character design of Aphrodite (one that reminded me a little of Zomba from 'The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo'). Aphrodite is in the top 10 creepiest villains from 'Mystery Incorporated' and one of the creepiest of any of the modern Scooby Doo shows. The truth about her is cleverly done, makes sense and it was very easy to see how the perpetrator came to behave the way they did. While having an inkling of who was responsible, it wasn't obvious and part of me did wish actually that we got to know the perpetrator more.

The music never jars while never over-emphasising, loved the mix of older and contemporary style too. The theme tune is still memorable. The episode benefits from being very smartly written, with plenty of laugh loud moments, ones that give the feels, ones that intrigue while always respecting the target audience. The story is compelling, twisty and very creepy, while the primary mystery is great fun and atmospheric the Mr E and Pericles subplot is every bit as intriguing and mysterious (though clearly setting things up for something bigger).

All the gang are well characterised, Velma was fine this time and she and Shaggy have nice moments. Shaggy and Scooby never fail to entertain and endear and just love their friendship. Pericles had not been in the show very long prior to "Where Walks Aphrodite" and he still continues to show the most promise of all the supporting characters, just love his enigmatic mysteriousness. The voice acting all round is great.

Great episode all in all. 9/10.
