the short story is better

I watched this online after reading the short story that its based on - it's also called Finding Polish and was written by M Y Alam a few years ago. The short film is a bit different to the original story and not as good in my opinion. The acting and direction is amateurish and the script doesn't stay faithful to the original. The casting could have been much better - in the short story, the Polish character is supposed to be in his sixties or seventies but the actor who plays him doesn't look older than fifty. The actor who plays the Lal character doesn't seem to age but the young nephew is very good - the only decent performance and part in the film. All in all, the film is disappointing because all the ingredients are in the short story - there's a good plot and the characters are very well drawn out but all that's lost in the film. It's a pity the makers decided to experiment and come up with their own artistic interpretation. Worth a watch but only as an exercise in comparing adaptation from text to screen.
