As the episode opens a Royal Navy submarine has an encounter with a Liopleurodon, a large aquatic dinosaur, in the North Sea. The ARC team are contacted and Abby, Connor and Matt are sent to join the submarine as it returns to the site of the incident so that they can seal the anomaly it came through. The sub's commander tells them that they found a second creature when they surfaced; assuming it was dead they took it on board for the team to look at. With only a skeleton crew, for security reasons they head towards the anomaly but before they can do anything they are attacked; this knocks out the power and fouls the propeller with the sonar array. Unable to steer or slow down they drift through the anomaly back into the Jurassic period. They now have several problems; not only must they get the submarine powered again; several of the crew, including the captain, were incapacitated in the attack and the smaller creature isn't as dead as originally thought! Back at ARC things aren't going much better; the men from the Admiralty have a Plan B for closing the anomaly... they intent do detonate a nuclear torpedo in it despite Lester's warnings of what it might do to life on Earth if such an explosion took place in the Jurassic period! In the back ground Abby is still suspicious of Philip Burton; something that threatens her friendship with Connor; she also has information concerning the fate of Emily.
This was a pretty good episode with plenty of tense moments aboard the submarine; the naturally claustrophobic nature of that setting helped of course. The dinosaurs weren't the most threatening but there size meant they could damage the submarine just by ramming it. There were also some humorous moments; mostly supplied by Lester; Ben Miller goes a fine job as the bumptious head of ARC; the character is somewhat arrogant but he is trying to do the right thing and help the team which makes him likable. Particularly funny was his suggestion that the Admiral's actions had caused the extinction of the dinosaurs and his offer to lend him his copy of 'Doctor Strangelove'. As one would expect by now the dinosaur effects looked pretty good although being underwater we saw less creatures than we usually do when they go to the past.
