Alan Davies nearly quit 'Qi'. The 'Jonathan Creek' star threatened to leave the popular quiz show three years ago because he was so furious at the BBC for cancelling his sitcom 'Whites', which saw him portray a celebrity chef, and assumed their decision must have had something to do with scheduling rules. He told Radio Times magazine: ''I thought they were canning 'Whites' because they had me doing another show. I asked, 'Is that a factor? Can anyone give me a straight answer on that? ''If it is a factor, I'd rather quit 'Qi'. Will I get cast as anything else? What...

Oliver Lansley ("Whites") is set to play classic British comedian Kenny Everett in BBC Four's new telemovie biopic "The Best Possible Taste" reports The BBC.
A radio DJ and television entertainer, the offbeat and wild Everett is probably best remembered for his own series "The Kenny Everett Television Show" which ran throughout much of the 80's.
Some of Everett's most famous characters including Sid Snot and Cupid Stunt will be featured. Everett died in 1995 from an AIDS-related illness at the age of 50.
Former "Coronation Street" actress Katherine Kelly will star as Lee 'Lady Lee' Middleton, Everett's wife of thirteen years.

Alan Davies has criticised the way the BBC cancelled his show Whites. The comedy, which also starred Isy Suttie, Darren Boyd and Katherine Parkinson, was dropped by BBC Two in March after one series had aired. Davies has now told The Daily Telegraph that he believes the BBC should have treated the matter differently. "I got an email [informing me of the cancellation] from someone I'd never met," he said. "I've been working at BBC Comedy for 16 years, so I thought I could have had a bit more than that. It was pretty shoddy." Davies also criticised the BBC for dropping the sitcom in the first place, saying: "They're not interested (more)...

A lesser-known property from the late Douglas Adams (creator of The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy), Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was nevertheless a novel Adams thought would be easier to film than his revered sci-fi opus. Previously turned into radio plays with Harry Enfield as the gumshoe, BBC4 have decided to put Dirk Gently on-screen for the first time, adapted by in-demand screenwriter Howard Overman (Misfits, Vexed). Stephen Mangan (Green Wing) plays the eponymous sleuth, who believes in “the fundamental interconnectedness of all things”, and applies this theory of quantum mechanics to solve superficially innocuous crimes.
Overman has wisely excised much of the book’s budget-swallowing imagination into something achievable on a frugal budget; bringing the idea down-to-earth as an eccentric cousin to the BBC’s Sherlock update. Purists may grumble this isn’t the Dirk Gently they wanted to see, but it’s more accessible and practicable.

Low-key, barely-there sitcoms where darkly droll material flows in the cracks are all the rage. There.s Roger and Val and, more recently, Whites, starring Alan Davies. Both shows are so comedically slight you feel compelled to pick up the gags with tweezers and put them in an acid-free environment for fear they.ll dissolve undetected.
