Taraji P. Henson is the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Peacock limited series “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist,” Variety has learned.
Henson joins previously announced cast members Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrence Howard, and Dexter Darden. The role reunites Henson, Howard, and Craig Brewer, who is executive producing and directing. The three previously worked together on projects like the Oscar-winning film “Hustle & Flow” as well as the hit Fox music industry drama “Empire.”
The series is based on the podcast “Fight Night,” which was produced by Will Packer along with iHeartPodcasts and Doghouse Pictures. It will be set in Atlanta in 1970. The official description states that it will tell “the infamous story of how an armed robbery during the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life, but an entire city’s destiny.”

Kate Winslet is currently in first place in our early Emmy odds to win Best Limited/TV Movie Actress for “Mare of Easttown.” It would be her second Emmy and second win in the category — a perfect 10 years after her first.
The Oscar winner took home her first statuette for her performance on Todd Haynes‘ HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” her first collaboration with the network. She beat out Taraji P. Henson (“Taken from Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story”), Diane Lane (“Cinema Verite”), Jean Marsh (“Upstairs Downstairs”) and Elizabeth McGovern (“Downton Abbey”). Remember when “Downton” competed as a miniseries? Good times. That’s how long ago this was.
“Oh, I didn’t think we were gonna win anything. Oh, look, I really did win it!” Winslet exclaimed upon accepting the trophy (watch above). “This means such a great deal to all of us because this really, I feel like, had nothing to do with me.

In Tyler Perry’s gripping thriller, Acrimony, a faithful wife (Taraji P. Henson) tired of standing by her devious husband (Lyriq Bent) is enraged when it becomes clear she has been betrayed.
When Melinda (Henson) first met Robert (Bent), she was skeptical of his charming nature but couldn’t deny how attracted she was to him. Once they fell in love, Melinda molded herself into everything he wanted her to be. She sacrificed for him, worked to support his grandiose dreams, and put up with him for better or for worse. Then one day she realized that after all she had done, another woman was reaping the lavish rewards.
That’s when Melinda lost it. And now she cannot let it go. She’s been used, disrespected and unpardonably deceived. Or has she?

One of the year's biggest success stories is Fox's "Empire," and Taraji P. Henson is certainly a major part of that. As Cookie Lyons, the embittered ex-con and ex-wife of a powerful music producer (Terrence Howard), Henson creates a ferocious TV diva worthy of comparison to Joan Collins in "Dynasty." Oscar nominee Henson ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," 2008) has been rewarded for her efforts with an Emmy nomination for Best Drama Actress. When will Taraji P. Henson get the credit she deserves? If only the actress knew the answer. "I'm treated like I'm on the D-list," Henson, 43, complains in Ebony's October issue. "I'm still being considered with actresses who haven't done half the stuff I've achieved." In 2009, Henson was nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. In 2011, she earned an Emmy nomination for the title role in Taken from Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story. Henson may not be topping casting lists, but that hasn't dampened her spirits. "When people tell me 'no,' I get hyped," she says. "Because when I prove that I can and will, I love...

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. It could just be that I've only now just started paying close attention, but it seems like Lifetime has been getting quite aggressive in the movie department - especially with regards to films that tell stories about black women. There's the all-black cast remake of Steel Magnolias, the recent acquisition of Terry McMillan’s A Day Late And A Dollar Short which the network plans to adapt, the Mary J. Blige project which centers on the relationship between Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King called Parallel Lives, and there was Taraji P. Henson In Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story last year. Just in case you missed the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards last night, here's a quick rundown of what you missed: Modern Family dominated in the comedy category once again and Mad Men won Best Drama, although many of the other awards were spread out among numerous shows. I know a lot of people will be excited to see that Kyle Chandler won Best Actor for his role as Coach Taylor in Friday Night Lights and Peter Dinklage took home the Supporting Actor award for Game of Thrones. Martin Scorsese also picked up his first ever Emmy for directing the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire. Were you surprised by any of the choices? Did they get any of the categories wrong? The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards were held in the early hours of this morning, and though I unfortunately wasn’t able to watch it, the results are in, courtesy of the Emmys’ own site, with so much great talent being deservedly well recognised.
For those unable to watch the show, you can catch it on Five USA at 10 tonight, with your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
We took a look at the nominations last night, as well as some of the awards that had already been announced, with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul McCrane, and Futurama already receiving their awards in an earlier ceremony last weekend.
For now, we shall turn our attention to last night though, and the brilliant winners from the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are being held in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and so in the run-up to the ceremony, we thought we’d give you a run-down of this year’s nominees.
For those able to watch the show (which is also being shown on Five USA tomorrow night at 10), you can look forward to your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
And for those unacquainted with the awards, you can pretty much think of them as the television equivalent to the Oscars, with the Primetime Emmy Awards recognising the best talent in primetime television.
A few of the awards were already presented to the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, so I’ll do a summary of those categories first, followed by the nominees for tonight’s awards ceremony. There are...

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Nominations were announced bright and early today in Los Angeles by Joshua Jackson and Melissa McCarthy. Looking through the nominations, there was plenty of good and plenty of bad.
Since I am a mostly positive person, let’s start with the positives. While not nabbing a nomination for Best Drama Series, Justified, Sound on Sight’s favorite show of the year, racked up acting nominations in almost every single eligible category including Timothy Olyphant (Best Actor in a Drama), Margo Martindale (Best Supporting Actress in a Drama), Walton Goggins (Best Supporting Actor in a Drama), and Jeremy Davies (Best Guest Actor in a Drama). All are deserved, especially Martindale, whose frightening performance as Bennett matriarch Mags was the best on television this year. Olyphant is overdue for an nomination, being snubbed for both Deadwood and Damages, so it’s nice to see him get recognition for...

Nominees for the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and once again AMC's Mad Men is leading the way with 19 nominations. However, this year the show has some serious competition in the form of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, which received 18 nods, and Game of Thrones, which had 13. Elsewhere, Modern Family looks poised to repeat its success in most of the comedy categories, while the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce starring Kate Winslet earned more nominations than anything else with a total of 21. Breaking Bad is notably absent this year due to the fact that the show took a break in between seasons, and some people seem to be upset that David Simon's Treme did not get a single mention anywhere. Are you happy with this year's nominees? Are there any other major snubs? Check out the full list of Emmy nominations after the jump. Drama Boardwalk Empire (HBO) Dexter...

[1] The 2011 Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles by hosts Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson. As always, the list contained a few surprises and a few disappointments, as well as many more predictable choices. Among the pleasant surprises were outstanding series nods for Parks & Recreation and Friday Night Lights, both excellent (and personal favorite) series that the Emmy folks have overlooked in the past. On an unhappier note, Nick Offerman's singular performance as Ron Swanson was overlooked, and neither Treme nor Community made a single appearance in the list. Meanwhile, Modern Family picked up four of the six Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy nominations, which... I like the show and all, but surely we could've bumped one or two of those men to make room for Offerman, Danny Pudi, Ted Danson, etc.? year's Emmys, and among those announced was "Glee" star
Chris Colfer.
The actor famous for his portrayal of
Kurt Hummel on the Fox hit series vies for Outstanding Supporting
Actor in a Comedy Series. He will be competing against four "Modern
Family" actors, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O'Neill, Eric

This is Chris' second nomination for
the Outstanding Supporting Actor nod. The 21-year-old actor was

Eric Stonestreet. On his latest nomination, he told EW, "There
were rumors that I might get nominated again, but I was thinking I
wouldn't," he told EW.

While "Hallelujah," his ABC pilot didn't pan out, it didn't take long for Emmy-winning "Lost" alum Terry O'Quinn to find his way back to television.
In a fitting move, O'Quinn will feature in an island-set show filmed in Hawaii once again, as TV Line reports that he'll have a very important recurring role on "Hawaii 5-0." O'Quinn will take on the role of a Navy Seal Lt. Commander, who, having trained McGarrett (played by Alex O'Loughlin), "holds some of the answers to the mysteries surrounding the respective murders of McGarrett’s mother and father."
The role will reunite him with "Lost" cast mate Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Chin Ho Kelly.
O'Quinn has plenty of experience playing a military man, as he played General Nicholas Alexander in seven episodes of "The West Wing," Col. Will Ryan in a guest appearance on "NCIS" and also played F.B.I. Assistant Director Kendall in "Alias.

So, did any of you watch the movie last night? I wasn’t able to. I haven’t read many reviews of it yet; Entertainment Weekly says it’s “Mawkish, melodramatic, but completely compelling.”
It’s a Lifetime Network movie, so I wouldn’t expect anything less
Taraji P. Henson. stars in Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story, based on the real-life story of Tiffany Rubin who struggled to rescue her seven year old son Kobe from her ex-husband, who fled to South Korea, his homeland.
The film, directed by Gary Harvey and co-starring Terry O’Quinn, premiered on Lifetime last night, Monday, January 31.
If you missed it, don’t fret, you’ll have a few more chances to watch: first this Saturday, February 5th, at 9Pm, February 11th at 9Pm, and February 27th, also at 9.
Lifetime usually makes its original movies available for viewing on their website, some...

It's officially a month into 2011 now, so all of us can take a step back and see where we're standing on all those wonderful New Year's resolutions that seemed so noble and important four weeks ago. Well, not me. I didn't make any New Year's resolutions because when you manage to sprain an ankle and break a finger on New Year's Eve, I think that counts as a massive goddamn hint about what the universe has to say about your near future. In my case, what it was mostly saying was that I'd spend the first several weeks of 2011 alternately frustrated and in pain, with a high chance of having a finger that will be stuck at an angle best described as "jaunty." You should all be so lucky. So let's hear how the resolutions are or aren't coming along and in the meantime here's your Monday night TV:

We alerted you to this project last July, and here we have our first look at Taraji P. Henson in the Lifetime TV original movie, Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story – a “ripped-from-the-headlines” project which centers on mother, Tiffany Rubin, who fights and succeeds in rescuing her seven-year-old son, Kobe, who was taken away by his South Korean father in 2007 (her ex-husband, with whom she was engaged in a bitter custody battle over Kobe).
The rest of the story goes… “Along with Mark Miller, president of the organization, Rubin traveled to South Korea, launching a surveillance operation to chart Kobe’ daily schedule. After a careful planning, one day Rubin went into her son’s school and was able to snatch him. The two, along with Miller, ran to the U.S. Embassy before being able to return home safely.”
It’s certainly an intriguing story, and not necessarily standard Lifetime TV material,...
