When the group of students around Pierce and Leonard is caught playing poker by the dean, Pierce fakes an Alzheimer's affliction. He looks at a card and murmurs "Veronica". "Veronica" is the title of a 1989 song by Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney about an old lady suffering from Alzheimer's.
When Abed reveals to the Dean that his character's name in his movie is "Abed," the Dean replies that he loves Charlie Kaufman. Charlie Kaufman is a screenwriter and director whose movies often explore questions of identity; one of them, Being John Malkovich (1999), famously features the eponymous actor John Malkovich playing himself, similarly to Abed's role in his film. Kaufman's films Adaptation. (2002) and Synecdoche, New York (2008) are also meta-narratives similar to Abed's film.
Abed is quoting First Corinthians 6:17.
