I really enjoy this!
kiyansh-5906412 August 2023
I really enjoy this show! I wouldn't exactly say it's a full on comedy or full of jokes but it's lighthearted, humorous and really entertaining to watch. The premise of the show is really refreshing too and there's some interesting dynamics. I'm invested in all the main characters and side characters and always in anticipation of the next episodes. I really really hope we get more seasons!!! Great animation design too. I'm mostly happy with the pacing of the plot and I enjoy the weirdness incorporated in the show because of the cult theme. The characters feel real and I like how Petey grows as a person little by little in each episode.

Honestly charming
trigunnerd7 August 2023
Don't take this show so seriously. It's chaotic, excellently casted, and the art isn't awful like so many of these types of shows. The writing is genuinely clever and satirical. It's a fun romp with a unique story: a city girl inherits a small town with a twist. Lots of self-aware and purposefully ham-fisted commentary on society and cliche shows. The art is legit cute, with more varied movements than similar pop-up shows. The characters are a lot of fun, and played very well. The colors are interested and the character, clothing, and setting design keep the eye busy. Anyway, I don't have much else to say. Here are some words. Enjoy them. I love you, bye.

I don't even know entirely why I like it
etann-367075 September 2023
It's an interesting concept that gives a lot of room for creativity. It's dark and weird and still holds onto some sense of morality while also keeping things light enough for humor. A very odd mix but it's well crafted. The episodes so far are thoughtful and have kept me paying attention but not overly complex where I feel like I have to pay too much attention to details. Some good sight gags. The art style is decent. The character design is a bit nothing though, not too distinct or interesting. I think they could have gone to the drawing board again and came up with something better. But part of me believes that is something that works for me, they don't have too many silly outlandish figures that have to be explained away or require effort to ignore like a talking animal character for example. I'm a few episodes in and I'm interested enough to keep watching. Will see how it progresses.(I wrote this before I finished watching the 4th episode, there was a talking dog for no apparent reason, not sure how I feel about this now)

Meh
babymanperson22 July 2023
The show is about a shy woman named Petey. Her estranged father dies and she inherits a cult. She lost her job and now she has to run it. The show would be fine if it wasn't for the horrible dialogue. Every 5 seconds there has to be a self aware quip. Self aware quips work best when done in moderation. I am being literal when I say this show has them every 5 seconds. In addition to being unfunny, it gives all the characters the same tone of voice. In a well written show, all the characters would talk differently similar to how real people talk differently. If this show didn't have the awful self aware dialoge I would give this show a 7. The art style looks pretty good. The character proportions are more realistic and it doesn't look Family Guy inspired.

Pretty funny!
vujasmine8 August 2023
This show is different but it's so funny! The humor is dry to raunchy humor like a mix of Broad City and Schitts Creek (Annie Murphy is the leading lady's voice). It's the first season of an animated show so the build up is somewhat slow and some jokes didnt land but I was instantly hooked from the first episode because of the storyline. It's different and crossing some borders with making fun of cults and New York's snooty rich people. It's a short 6 episode season and I do hope Freeform gives it a chance to be renewed for a second season. I feel like it has potential to be a good animated comedy show.

Unfunny, forced, and honestly not that good.
Praise Petey had a lot of potential that is thrown out the window the second you hit the play button. The art style looks like a bitmoji, the writing is god awful, and the jokes are unfunny and feel forced. The show's plot had a lot of potential, and when I originally saw advertising, I was genuinely excited to watch it. After sitting down and watching the first two episodes with my cousin, I decided that this show wasn't worth my time. I really tried to like this show, but the show is so fast paced, and the writing is so unfunny and forced, it feels like a hole is being drilled into my head. I have not watched past episode two, so maybe it gets better, but I am not at all counting on it.

Absurdity at its Finest
AnHungarianGoose8 August 2023
There is nothing I love more than an adult cartoon that really understand the animated genre. "Praise Petey" is reminiscent of some of my old faves such as "Clerks: The Animated Series" and "The Critic" in its whip-smart command of the balance between a well-written script and full-tilt visual absurdity. Even with these comparisons, "Praise Petey" is like nothing else on television today. I was a big fan of Anna Drezen's writing during her tenure at SNL and continue to be as her unique voice and perspective come through brilliantly in this series. Not to mention the excellent voice performances from the likes of Annie Murphy, Amy Hill, and of course, my goddess Christine Baranski. "Praise Petey" is a must watch!

Hard Pass
ericmann-4762325 July 2023
I gave this one a shot, when I saw that Mike Judge is an Executive Producer. Grew up with masterpieces like Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill. Being a Texan, I've always been able to relate to the characters he created. Apparently he had nothing to do with the writing, character development, or creative direction of this "finger nails on a blackboard" garbage. Completely annoying and unwatchable. Gave up 5 minutes into episode 2. Can't believe Mike Judge put his name on this dreck. Would rather be ripped apart by great white sharks than subjected to more of this. Get your cartoon fix with King of the Hill reruns and spare yourself the misery.

Tries hard, fails harder
codygdietrich26 July 2023
I watched the first episode and I did not laugh, I did not even smile, I think I cringed a couple times. SheEO was bad, the conversation of "what's a daughter? It's like a son only female. Young people today have a word for everything I can't keep up." Is the definition of trying to hard. Making a joke is sometimes about exaggeration but much like in the dating world if you go too far and try too hard it just becomes pathetic and disappointing. The one and only point that was even a little amusing about the first episode was when she said she is dating the best guy New York City can produce and it turns out she is dating a wood plank.

A unique and taboo show
aajoal28 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show breaks the barriers of standard adult animations and ventures towards a more taboo topic where a city girl is passed down the leadership of her father's cult. The writing is solid, the voicing acting is good, and the plot stays entertaining. Not many shows touch on the subject of cults likely due to the general audiences preferences, but breaking these societal norms is what truly makes a show worth watching. I easily see this show having enough potential to carry on for several seasons. Since no adult animation shows have touched on this specific subject regarding cults, there's lots of room to keep the plot entertaining, quirky, and fun.

Nearly perfect show!
yzsnfcg14 August 2023
To start this review I think I have to say I am a huge fan of adult animation, I think if you aren't in to them you won't find this show that good! That being said I always enjoy when cartoons can find there own niche or world building that differentiates them from others. I think this show has done a great job at creating a spot in the animation world. Pretty funny and has up to date cultural references which can help too. I like how the characters interact so far and the actors that play the characters are cool too. Hoping that Hulu will give them at least 1 or 2 more seasons after the current one to give them a chance to really grow into the writing and characters. Overall pretty good show, reminds me a lot of bless the Harts which got unfortunately cancelled.

A creative, exciting and very funny show
annietippe26 July 2023
I think PRAISE PETEY is an excellent new addition to the comedic world. The characters are clever, the dialogue very funny, and the concept actually gets at something true to our core as a society. That we are all susceptible in some way to cult-like behavior, and that the need to follow (or be followed) is kind of intrinsic to the way we navigate society. I love the style of the animation, and I think the directing is also delightful. Anna Drezen, who was the head writer for SNL, has brought her very unique voice to this show, and I am desperate for another season to watch how they grow! There's much potential from this writing staff, and this cast of very funny voice actors! Bring on more!!!

Funny and original
dwimpleton-701311 August 2023
I'm really loving this show. I got the trailer recommended to me but decided to go in blind. I've watched the 4 episodes that have been released so far and it's really appealing. The art style and animation are very aesthetically pleasing and the humor is up my alley. I will admit i was worried this would be another generic adult cartoon but i feel like the humor is quite fresh. It isn't some overly negative or nihilistic drag and embraces the humor of its concept. I've seen people complain about the "satanic" elements but that just feels silly. Im worried this show won't make it to a second season, given how animation is treated nowadays. ESPECIALLY adult animation. The average consumer writes original shows off then complains when more unoriginal content is pushed out. I'd say give this a shot. Anna Drezen and her crew are doing good work. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. It's a shame it's only 10 episodes though. Fingers crossed for a second season. If not, i'll await future works from anyone in this crew.

A sensationally silly treat and then some.
DrezenMedia7 August 2023
My name is Rich Drezen, and before I go any further, yes. I am related to the show's creator. She is my sister. She didn't ask me to write this. She did not ask me to praise the show. She didn't ask me to work on the show, even though I'm a professional cartoonist. I'm glad. The team that was put together knocked it out of the park.

I fell in love with the show even before seeing what the characters looked like or knowing what the premise was. Annie Murphy alone was worth the price of admission, and although she's well known for her role of Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek, her voice explores the dynamic of a spoiled rich kid with such dimension that I grew to believe in what the character stood for immediately.

Every single one of the supporting cast is a home run. John Cho especially gives a dynamite performance as Bandit, Petey's recurring frenemy. Amy Hill and Christine Baranski are icing on the cake as Mae Mae and Petey's mom respectively.

Having known my sister her entire life, you'd think I'd know everything there is to know about her, and you'd be wrong. Knowing my sister's sensibilities about the world she sees with her eyes, this show has allowed me to get to know my sister in ways that go beyond conversation. I'm not even referring to personal stuff, I'm referring to observations about people, values, traditions, and other quirks about this crazy world we live in. In the pilot episode: Ed, Edd and Eddy fans may appreciate Petey's boyfriend, Brian, who is actually a wooden board.

The team assembled for this show has succeeded, I feel, in creating a show for everyone. While admittedly it is bittersweet that this show premiered during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's encouraging that creativity is alive and well and thriving. I am hopeful that the strikers get a much better deal than that they've been dealt. That notwithstanding, go watch the show and form your own opinions.

Don't cancel this fun as hell series, just move it to streaming
TWROBS9111 December 2023
I was super entertained with this series, the theme and the humour but mostly the characters(Petey, Bandit, Elisa, Mae Mae, the Elders and the rest of New Utopia) they literarily deliver a lot of humour themselves, it was unforgettable, and I was super disappointed that this was immediately cancel (DAMN YOU HATERS) and it was ridiculous to put a series like this on a channel that does not fit with some specific adult themes and bleeped language (like most adult cartoons Family Guy and American Dad) either-way it was one of the best new short-lived series that should be on the streaming services instead of cancelling this series.
