Some episodes are very hard to comment on, and this is sure one of them. So full on events and emotions that can leave our head spinning by the end. Ever since Dean had Lisa and Ben in his life, he was torn between his desire to be with them as a family and his worry over protecting them. Dean knew his presence in their lives would turn out nasty one day. He had to let them go in order not to screw up their lives, in order not to to see Ben turn into another version of him and Sam. And now he is left facing one of his worst nightmares, when Crowley decides to hold them captive to force Dean to stand down. Dean finds himself doing questionable actions that he would hate to do in normal circumstances, He is back to torture and he is over the edge one again. He refuses to back down and let even Sam help him. But then he had to make yet another ultimate sacrifice choosing to ask Cas wipe their memories clean so they would not remember him, so they would never remember the amount of pain his presence in their lives had inflected on them, so Ben would not remember the horrible things that came out of his possessed mother's mouth, so Lisa would not hate herself for what she said to her boy.
Jensen Ackles delivered an award worthy performance in the scene in the hospital. We could see the pain, guilt and loss all over poor Dean.
Castiel is still trying to justify his actions to the only human he had ever cared about, he is trying to remind Dean of the many times he stood by his side, trying to ask him to trust him and stand down letting him do what he thinks is right. I find myself recalling the same act back on season four when Sam was asking Dean to trust him and accept the fact the he is working with a daemon for the greater good. Back then I hopped that Dean would trust his little brother a little more, just like I hopped he would trust Castiel now, But deep down I know Dean is right just like he was right with Sam before. But then I wonder will Dean ever save Cas from his crazy plan or will they face the disastrous results of failing to knock some sense into the nerdy angel's mind and they will be left to clean up the mess he will leave behind like Sam did two seasons ago?
Cindy Sampson was good in her twisted evil role and I hope this is not the last we see of her. I still can't fully accept the idea of erasing Lisa and Ben's memories even though I understand the reasons for it because on the other hand they would always be in danger just because Dean will always care for them and the bad guys know it too.
Finally I like the idea of bringing on a friendly purgatory monster in the form of Dr. Eleanor Visyak, there is more to this lady than we were told before.
All in all, this is an important Pre finale may be not as climatic as the previous seasons but it is sure rich in events.
The only downside that is troubling me was that Dean should have known Lisa or Ben would be possessed he saw that happen before with his dad on season one and later with Bobby on season five, He should at least test them with some holly water or something first but I guess his mind was not in the right place then with so many things troubling him.
