Anyone seeking a peek into Ulrich Seidl’s worldview–perhaps his soul–could do worse than Rimini, his first film since Safari in 2016 and first narrative feature in almost a decade. It swells with Seidl ephemera: hunting trophies, Austrian basements, and lovelorn holiday-makers of a certain age. And then there’s the mood. Consider a shot near the end of its first act: a ghostly, out-of-season water park looming over an out-of-season man; mist clouds so dense they hang over the park’s slides; and just to the right, still as statues, a group of hooded refugees.
Rimini, a dense and discomforting character study, stars an astonishing Michael Thomas as Richie Bravo, a once-popular singer of German Schlager music (a derided and sentimental genre that came to fame in the postwar years), now making ends meet as a washed entertainer in holiday resorts where he serenades, occasionally seduces (for a little extra income) aging fans.

San Francisco, March 14 (Ians) In a significant ruling, a judge in the US has directed Google to face a class-action lawsuit seeking $5 billion, that claimed the tech giant is tracking and collecting data even when people use the private 'Incognito' mode on its Chrome browser.
District Judge Lucy Koh in the state of California ruled that Google "did not notify users that Google engages in the alleged data collection while the user is in private browsing mode", reports Bloomberg.
A Google spokesperson told The Verge on Saturday that the company disputes the lawsuit's claims.
"We will defend ourselves vigorously against them," the spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.

San Francisco, Feb 16 (Ians) Microsoft has started testing its game streaming service, xCloud, on the web via a browser for iOS, iPadOS and on PC.
The company has been unable to release its xCloud service on the App Store due to Apple's restrictions which is why it announced that it will release the game streaming service via Safari on iOS.
According to The Verge, the web version of Microsoft xCloud will be similar to the Android version. It will have a simple launcher, game recommendations, and the ability to resume recently played titles.
Currently, the testing is being done on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers, both of which are based on the Chromium engine, which means that Game Pass Ultimate users will be able to not only stream to Windows 10 PCs based on the x86 and ARM64 architectures, but also to devices such as Chromebooks eventually.

Apple announced updates to its MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini laptops in a pre-recorded video presentation filmed on its campus in California Tuesday. These new computers may look the same, but they’re actually the most substantial updates Apple has made to its computers in 15 years.
The biggest change is that Apple has moved away from Intel processors to its own custom Apple M1 chip. Apple’s A-series chips have powered the iPhone and iPad since 2010, but this is the first time the company has brought similar technology to the Mac.

This journey is a God’s eye tour of the Celebrity Eclipse: a daunting 17-deck luxury cruise-liner that, at full capacity, carries near to 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew (note the ratio). The Eclipse, like many of its kind, offers its customers the opportunity to experience the confections of the one-percenter life, albeit for the right price. For our king this experience is a reality. Ronald Busch Reisinger (although he often prefers “Ronnie”) is the reigning Baron of Inneryne in Scotland (sc. 1998); the ceremonial king of Biffeche in Senegal; and, ostensibly, a proud kilt-wearing Scot who sounds very much like an American. He also claims to have once fallen off an elephant while playing polo. It is never exactly clear what to believe.

"Tonight is going to be antithetical to traditional methods of moving image distribution." At around 00:00 GMT on March 27th, artist Zia Anger begins her staggering, shrewd, and somehow still surprising performance My First Film with this ambitious agenda. By the performance’s end, about two hours later, Anger has more than achieved her aim—imagining and realizing a creative, conceptual work that is not contrarian but utopian, a statement that is forceful and immutable, yet intimate, something exceptionally clear-eyed, and as ever with Anger, characteristically noncompliant.Though there is always an evident, and ontologically inherent variability and singularity to live performance, My First Film has, since 2018, more or less existed established in its one original form. Described by the artist as an “expanded cinema performance,” My First Film meshes Anger’s unseen, undistributed first feature Always All Ways, Anne Marie (formerly known as Gray) with live on-screen commentary, giving...

Social distancing and lockdowns amid the coronavirus emergency have forced us all to stay indoors, which means that video conferencing has become a more valuable tool than ever before when it comes to staying in touch with co-workers, friends, and family. You’ve probably heard quite a bit about Zoom, the video conferencing app that lets you connect with up to 100 friends from the comfort of your home. The app is easy to use, lets you share your screen for business meetings, and even offers a way to make video conferences more fun through its virtual backgrounds. It’s also not a bad way to play party games online!
But Zoom also comes with some restrictions. For example, the free tier of the service only lets you chat in 40-minute intervals, meaning that every time you reach your time limit, your call will end and you’ll need to start a new one.

As music fans continue to shelter in place, indie rock band Real Estate has decided the show must go on — just a little differently.
Real Estate was originally supposed to tour venues through April and May in support of their newest album, The Main Thing, which dropped via record label Domino on February 28. Thanks to Covid-19, that quickly changed and the group was forced to focus on rescheduling some of those dates. The band members then thought a tech alternative would be a nice way to spread some joy during trying times,...

While the most central figures on Netflix's docuseries Tiger King are undoubtedly Joe Exotic and his rival, Carole Baskin, there's a whole cast of colorful characters around them, including Doc Antle, another member of the big cat community. You might be wondering where Doc Antle is now, after all the events of Tiger King. From the looks of things, Antle has managed to keep living his life relatively normally so far.
Who Is Doc Antle?
Antle, whose legal name is Mahamayavi Bhagavan Antle, still runs The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S) in Myrtle Beach, Sc, which is portrayed on the show in a somewhat unflattering light. Tiger King paints a fairly unpleasant portrait of Antle - who seems to be a mentor-like figure to Joe Exotic - and suggests that he was mistreating or outright abusing the animals in his care...

The strapping hero is saddled with added extraterrestrial superpowers in a questionable attempt to ape modern sci-fi fantasies
The problem with most Tarzan movies is the lack of dinosaurs, asteroids, exploding helicopters and glowing magic rocks, right? Well, fear not, because the creators of Animals United are here to right that wrong, embracing "the spirit of Edgar Rice Burroughs without becoming a slave to the text". So we open in space, crash-land on Earth (wiping out giant reptiles) and then fast-forward to the present, where the search for extraterrestrial superpowers leaves a young boy to be raised by apes after his parents die in an air crash, Now he must defend his planet sorry, "the jungle" from evil corporate invaders in search of Unobtanium. Or something. Really. While the motion-captured 3D CG has an uncanny photorealist quality, the wisdom of attempting to turn Tarzan into an Avatar-lite fantasy remains, at best,...

It was over a year ago that we saw the first posters for the latest incarnation of Tarzan. This time we get to see a film both in 3D and shot completely using motion capture (the same effect that was achieved to create films like Avatar).
The latest iteration of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic story will be arriving on the big screen next summer, this time under the direction of Reinhard Klooss (Animals United). Kellan Lutz (Twilight, Immortals) leads the motion-capture cast, alongside Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Afterlife) as Jane, and Jaime Ray Newman (A Town Called Eureka), Robert Capron (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Mark Deklin (Gcb), and Trevor St. John (One Life to Live).
Klooss is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and Yoni Brenner (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs).

Update: Alexander Skargard (Battleship) appears to be the top choice to play the title character in Warner Brothers Tarzan. David Yates, the director of four of the Harry Potter movies, is helming the post-jungle Tarzan story, replacing Craig Brewer. WB's Tarzan reboot follows the jungle man years after he's joined society and now goes by the name John Clayton III. Queen Victoria asks him to go back to the Congo to investigate what's going on - and there he teams up with an ex-mercenary to save the land from a diamond warlord.
Additionally, Samuel L. Jackson is in talks to play an undisclosed supporting role.
This is different from the Summit project which is staying true to the original Edgar Rice Burroughs story -- except that it's in motion capture and 3D (see below).

Kellan Lutz (photo), best known for playing Emmett Cullen in the Twilight movies, and Resident Evil actress Spencer Locke, will star in the performance-capture 3D movie Tarzan, adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale, and to be directed by Animals United’s producers / directors Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe. Needless to say, Lutz will bring Tarzan back to life, while Locke will play Jane. The screenplay was written by Klooss, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs‘ Yoni Brenner and Jessica Postigo, whose sole listed credit on the IMDb is Harald Zwart’s The Mortal Instruments, currently in pre-production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it updates Burroughs’ story by having Tarzan’s parents killed in a plane crash, the CEO of Greystoke Energies as the film’s chief villain, and Jane as an environmentally conscious heroine. Come to think of it, the first "update" isn’t something really new: Boy’s...

The attempt to talk through the animals about biodiversity shows the kind of anthropomorphism that puts species at risk
If you've fallen victim to climate change fatigue, don't worry. Even among the environmentally correct, battling global warming no longer reigns unchallenged as humanity's most vital task. Something else might be even more important. It's the preservation of biodiversity.
Conceivably, our species could adapt to hotter weather; but mess up that great chain of being and we could put at risk our food, water, air and fuel. Currently, we're driving plants and animals to extinction faster than new species can evolve. So, the struggle to conserve life-forms is starting to get the kind of attention hitherto lavished only upon the climate.
Perhaps you feel it's time your children were brought up to speed. If so, you might be tempted to take them to Animals United. For this 3D animation's furry frolics...

There's sleek, sexy design, gladiatorial arcade game action and Daft Punk-scored retro styling, but questions pile up as Hedlund seeks to rescue his long-lost Zen-spouting dad (old Jeff Bridges) from Tron-world and its evil techno-führer (young Jeff Bridges).
Burlesque (12A)
(Steve Antin, 2010, Us) Christina Aguilera, Cher, Cam Gigandet. 119 mins
A rags-to-riches showbiz fable that makes Mariah Carey's Glitter look self-effacing and Showgirls avant garde. The mask of Cher presides over a bitchy La club where Aguilera's talent for warbling while modelling frilly lingerie eventually shines through.
Catfish (12A)
(Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman, 2010, Us) 84 mins
