Liev Schreiber is scoring some serious dad points.
The actor enjoyed an NBA game on Sunday with his sons Samuel Kai, 9 this month, and Alexander “Sasha” Pete, 10, watching the New York Knicks square off against the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Even though the home team didn’t take home the victory (the final score was 105 to 100 in the Magic’s favor), the father-son trio seemed to be having the time of their life, all smiles while sitting courtside.

The following recap, by its very nature, contains major spoilers about this week’s Twin Peaks. Proceed at your own peril.
Goodbye Richard Horne, you evil little demon. He was killed by his father. Yes, his father. We were all correct: Evil Coop was Richard’s dad after all. (Which means Evil Coop likely raped Audrey Horne while she lay in a coma. For more on our potentially sleeping beauty, see the Bonus Points section below.)

To mark the release of The Bleeder on 21st August, we’ve been given 2 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
The Bleeder is the true-life story of Chuck Wepner, a liquor salesman from New Jersey, who went 15 rounds in the stunning 1975 heavyweight world championship against the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali, and ultimately inspired the billion-dollar Rocky franchise. In his ten years as a boxer, Wepner endured eight broken noses, 14 losses, two knockouts, and a total of 313 stitches. But his toughest fights were outside the ring: living an epic life of booze, drugs, wild women, exemplifying incredible highs and extraordinary lows.
Featuring a fantastic cast led by Liev Schreiber (Spotlight, Ray Donovan) as Chuck, The Bleeder co-stars Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show) and is directed by Philippe Falardeau (The Good Lie...

There are no shortage of boxing movies and the familiar story of the rise to fame, only to lose it all through alcohol, drugs and women has been done before. The difference however with The Bleeder is Chuck Wepner (Liev Schreiber), the boxer on who’s life the film is based, best know for inspiring Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky (1976).
Chuck seemed to live up to his nickname as ‘The Bleeder’ and like Rocky, lead the fight more with granite chin than style and athleticism, as he continued to soak up the punches and move relentlessly forward. Wepner was never really taken seriously as a boxer and continued to work as a liquor salesman, but when he got a chance to fight for the heavyweight title, he made it count. He may not have won the fight, but the fact he managed to last 15 rounds in the ring with Muhammad Ali...

Last Week’S Review: Brace for Impact, It’s the Penultimate Episode of Season 3
Case Summary
It’s not always easy to tell how bad an accident is upon first glance, so for the past week we’ve been waiting to find out just how badly Kim was hurt following the crash at the end of “Fall.” Almost right away, we get our answer — beyond the car, Kim’s down one arm. “This one handed crap is going to get real old real fast,” she muses. The real blow appears to be to her spirit, but at least she’s committing to her recovery in the short term. (A movie binge can cure an awful lot of ills.)
While Kim might be injured, it’s Jimmy who’s truly shaken up by the accident. Blaming himself for the fact that Kim was pushing herself too hard, Jimmy resolves to take...

Hollywood’s love affair with boxing, underdog stories, and the struggles of the common man continues with Chuck, a true story which manages to breathe some fresh life into the well-worn genre. Liev Schreiber stars as Chuck Wepner, a New Jersey boxing hero in the early ‘70s, who’d earned the nicknamed ‘The Bayonne Bleeder’ (the film’s original, better title) because of the copious amounts of blood he’d lose during an average fight. In 1975 legendary boxing promoter Don King informed Chuck’s manager Al Braverman (Ron Perlman) that Muhammed Ali was looking to fight a white heavyweight after the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and Wepner happened to be the highest ranking one around. Ali was expected to make quick work of Wepner, but The Bleeder surprised everyone by going the distance and even knocking The Champ down (the fight was called in Ali’s favor 19 seconds before the...

Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has played his fair share of superheroes from the title character in Kick-Ass to Quicksilver in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron, but in Doug Liman’s The Wall, he gets to play a real superhero; Sergeant Allen Isaac, a soldier in Iraq trapped behind the title wall and pinned down by a sniper. Said sniper finds a way to tap into Isaac’s earpiece, and he begins to play mind games with the young soldier while trying to find out more about his life, and his past.
It’s a fantastic role for Taylor-Johnson with Liman’s camera trained on him for much of the film, creating the same kind of tension Liman brought to his earlier films, Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity.

Rocky. Rocky II. Rocky III. Rocky IV….I could keep going and somehow we’ll end with Creed, but that doesn’t matter. What does, however, is who Rocky was inspired after, and what that man has to lay claim to fame.
Chuck Wepner is his name. He’s the man that went fifteen rounds in the ring with the man of the hour, Muhammad Ali. Chuck also happens to be the name of the new film coming out about his life in and out of the ring and show business. Directed by Philippe Falardeau (who had previously directed The Good Lie), the film stars Liev Schreiber as Chuck Wepner, Naomi Watts as Linda, Elisabeth Moss as Phyliss, Jim Gaffigan as John, and Ron Perlman as Al Braverman.

IFC’s Chuck opens in St. Louis on May 19.
He was the pride of Bayonne, New Jersey, a man who went fifteen rounds in the ring with Muhammad Ali, and the real life inspiration for Rocky Balboa. But before all that, Chuck Wepner (Liev Schreiber) was a liquor salesman and father with a modest prizefighting career whose life changed overnight when, in 1975, he was chosen to take on The Greatest in a highly publicized title match. It’s the beginning of a wild ride through the exhilarating highs and humbling lows of sudden fame—but what happens when your fifteen minutes in the spotlight are up?
Driven by a committed performance from Liev Schreiber, Chuck is a refreshingly human tale of resilience and redemption. Elisabeth Moss and Naomi Watts costar.
Wamg invites you to enter for the chance to win Two (2) seats to the advance screening of Chuck on May 18 at 7Pm in the St.

French-Canadian filmmaker Philippe Falardeau has actually been making movies for almost twenty years, but it wasn’t until about 2011 when he first started getting attention for his drama Monsieur Lazhar, which was nominated for a foreign language Oscar. Falardeau’s 2014 movie The Good Lie, didn’t get much notice despite starring Reese Witherspoon and being released by Warner Bros. Therefore, he hasn’t quite made the waves into Hollywood as his country-mates Denis Villeneuve or Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild).
Undaunted, Falardeau decided to take on the story of Bayonne, New Jersey boxer Chuck Wepner, who famously went up against Ali at the height of his success in the ‘70s and managed to go 15 rounds before the fight was called due to Wepner’s famed “bleeding” during fights. Wepner was alternately known as “The Bayonne Brawler” and “The Bayonne Bleeder.”

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
You have to love a summer month where there are just five tent-poles and a bunch of little things surrounding them. Here’s a time where you have Wonder Woman refusing to even advertise until after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 bows a month in advance. Competition is fierce and box office glory comes but once. Very well-made, very sweet-natured and very, very familiar: how strange that Philippe Falardeau‘s “Chuck,” a based-in-truth film about pretty much the definition of a confrontational sport — boxing — should feel cozy as a down comforter from beginning to end. Maybe it’s that the picture signals a love for its flawed-but-forgivable central character Chuck “The Bayonne Bleeder” Wepner early on, so that we’re aware nothing very bad will happen (or if it does, he’ll learn his lesson).

Of course, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (Disney) will dominate the box office this weekend. Just like it’s a given that “Avengers: Infinity War” will be Number One on May 4, 2018 and another “Avengers” film will top the charts on May 3, 2019, and so on to infinity and beyond.
This will be the 11th consecutive year that a Marvel title will spark the start of the four-month summer movie season; six were released by Disney. Marvel’s top four opening weekends have all arrived on this date, led by the first two “Avengers” titles.
The date is critical to why the “Guardians” sequel, expected to open to at least a $150 million, will likely open 50 per cent or more above the first one in August 2014 (adjusted to just over $100 million). That was by far the biggest hit of summer 2014 (actual gross $333 million, adjusted $364 million).

Liev Schreiber totally transforms himself into boxer Chuck Wepner in the conventional biopic “Chuck,” a movie about a man known for being able to take many punches. Wepner was nicknamed “the Bayonne bleeder” because he usually lost a lot of blood in the ring without getting knocked out, which is partly why he was picked by promoter Don King to fight against Muhammad Ali for the World’s heavyweight title in 1975. “Chuck” details Wepner’s home life before that famous fight and his relationship with his wife Phyllis (Elisabeth Moss), a postal worker who is continually getting angry about Wepner’s philandering.

It would be tough finding a harder working actor than Liev Schreiber who has successfully transitioned from supporting roles in movies to his very own TV show, playing fixer Ray Donovan on the Showtime series for five seasons. He’s received four Golden Globe nominations and two Emmy nominations playing that role.
In between seasons he’s found the time to make Chuck, a movie about the famed “Bayonne Brawler,” Chuck Wepner, whose career was documented in the Espn “30 for 30” doc, The Real Rocky. She’s one of our best working actresses, but the career of Naomi Watts has had ups and downs recently. In the plus category, there’s an Oscar-nominated turn in “The Impossible,” plus acclaimed turns in critical and commercial hits like “Birdman,” “St. Vincent” and “While We’re Young.” In the minus, though, there’s a thankless role in franchise fare “The Divergent Series,” and some disastrous smaller pictures like “Demolition,” “The Sea Of Trees” and horror movie “Shut In.”
But 2017 looks like it’ll be a good one for Watts fans: she’s in theaters twice this week in “3 Generations” and “Chuck,” has Colin Trevorrow’s “The Book Of Henry,” and has a meaty role alongside Woody Harrelson and Brie Larson in potential awards contender “The Glass Castle.” But the project that might have the biggest impact is, in a sign of the times, on the small screen, as...

Liev Schreiber planted a friendly kiss on ex Naomi Watts at the premiere of their film Chuck at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Friday.
This is not the first time the former partners, who were together for 11 years, have appeared to be remain friendly despite their break-up.

I recently got the chance to catch up with prolific Hollywood film composer Corey Allen Jackson. Corey’s career started when he was just a kid, and, as a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, he’s worked on a long list of both blockbusters and indie classics. His most recent collaboration was with director Philippe Falardeau for Chuck, starring Liev Schrieber. Corey and I discussed his creative process for scoring Chuck and more. How did you begin scoring movies? What led you to scoring Chuck? I’d always loved music, movies and film-scores, but after growing up in a small town I wasn’t sure getting out and doing something bigger was in the stars. It wasn’t until I went to Disney World and heard all of the...

Brett Haley has a thing for older actors. A Sundance regular, his feature debut, “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” starred Blythe Danner as a widow and former singer seeking a new lease on life. The ubiquitous character actor Sam Elliott (“The Big Lebowski”) played Danner’s love interest, but hers was not the only interest he piqued. Haley quickly set his sights on writing a project for Elliott to lead, and “The Hero” is the result.

Rocky is one of the greatest films of all time with it's incredibly inspiring story and characters. One of the interesting things about Rocky that some of you may not know is that he's based on the true story of Chuck Wepner, an average joe from New Jersey and was a liquor salesman... until he fought Muhammad Ali for almost 15 rounds in 1975!
The film follows Chuck's life from boxing Muhammad Ali to having Stallone talk to him about basing a movie on him to what happens after his fame begins to fade. It sounds like a very meta tale, but if done right could be really great.
With an Allstar cast of Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Elisabeth Moss, Ron Perlman, Jim Gaffigan and Morgan Spector, it looks like it could be a surprise hit. The trailer certainly has moments of comedy and seriousness. It opens in select theaters starting May 5th.

Generally, movies that tell the “real version” of some other story are cheap and desperate attempts to remake or cash in on a popular thing. But those “real versions” are also rarely lucky enough to be able to include Sylvester Stallone as a character in their narrative. Director Philippe Falardeau’s Chuck gets to do that, though, and the moment Stallone shows up it’s clear that this isn’t a movie about just any blue-collar boxer trying to make his way in the world, it’s about the blue-collar boxer trying to make his way in the world who let Sylvester Stallone turn his life story into Rocky. This trailer makes it look like Chuck will be more comedic than Rocky—at least based on the shot where Liev Schreiber’s Chuck has to fight a bear and the part where he very half-heartedly punches a mirror—but that...

"I toldya you know me: the 'real' Rocky." IFC Films has unveiled a trailer for an indie biopic titled Chuck, telling the story of boxer Chuck Wepner from New Jersey, who was the real life inspiration for the character of Rocky. So this is kind of like a closer-to-real-life version of Rocky, but not exactly as you will see in this trailer. Liev Schreiber stars as Chuck, who was a liquor salesman before he went on to fight Muhammad Ali for nearly 15 rounds in a match in 1975. The full cast includes Naomi Watts, Elisabeth Moss, Ron Perlman, Jim Gaffigan, and Morgan Spector. It looks like the film covers Chuck's story both before but mostly after the release of Rocky, earning additional recognition as the person the character was based on. I'm interested in this, but not sure it's really going to be better than any of the Rocky movies.

Anything combing the phrase “real life Rocky Balboa” and the name “Liev Schreiber” has got my attention. If you know your Rocky trivia you’ll know that a fighter by the name of Chuck Wepner went 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali which inspired Sylvester Stallone to write the movie Rocky. Even though Stallone would later go on to deny it, come on. Look at the character Apollo Creed and look at Muhammad Ali. The entire premise of Rocky is him wanting to go the distance with the champ which was coincidentally 15 rounds. Liev Schreiber takes on the lead role in

If you know your Rocky Balboa lore, you'll likely know the name of Chuck Wepner, a professional boxer whose fifteen round fight with world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali in 1975 inspired Sylvester Stallone to pen the script for what would become Rocky, although Stallone would deny it. Liev Schreiber takes on the lead role in Chuck which follows Wepner through his epic life of drugs, booze, wild women,... Read More...

Movies about boxing are undergoing a miniature renaissance at the moment. Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen Jake Gyllenhaal getting the crap knocked out of him in Southpaw, Miles Teller training with a broken neck in Bleed for This, and Michael B. Jordan realizing he can go the distance in the excellent Creed. Now, Liev Schreiber is taking his turn in the ring, in Philippe Falardeau’s Chuck.
Once known as The Bleeder (in my opinion, a far superior title), Chuck is a biopic of New Jersey boxer Chuck Wepner. Wepner isn’t known primarily for his sporting achievements (though he did go fifteen rounds against Muhammed Ali), but because he’s the inspiration for Rocky Balboa. According to the synopsis, we’ll follow ‘the pride of Bayonne, New Jersey’ as he progresses from being a down-on-his-luck liquor salesman with a modest prizefighting career to being offered...

A subgenre which has had a resurgence in the past few years in the boxing drama. Following Creed, Southpaw, Hands of Stone, and Bleed for This, another will arrive this year with Chuck, once titled The Bleeder when it premiered at Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival last fall. The latest drama from Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar, The Good Lie) stars Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, and Naomi Watts and follows the life of New Jersey boxer Chuck Wepner who was the inspiration behind Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky character. Ahead of a release this May, IFC Films have now released the first trailer.

Last year, two boxing movies duked it out on the festival circuit: “Bleed Like This” starring Miles Teller, which also opened in the fall, and “The Bleeder,” led by Liev Schreiber. Now, perhaps as a bid to extinguish any confusion, the latter has been blandly retitled “Chuck,” as it gears up to hit theaters.
Co-starring Elisabeth Moss, Ron Perlman, Naomi Watts, Jim Gaffigan, Michael Rapaport, and Pooch Hall, and directed by Philippe Falardeau (“Monsieur Lazhar“), the film tells the true story of journeyman boxer Chuck Wepner, who suddenly found himself in sport’s biggest spotlight.

One of the most amazing things to happen to television in recent years was the fact that the second series of Fargo was actually good. Now, because pushing your luck is something we should always strive for, the third series is heading our way, and it has already been announced that Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be involved.

The current crop of acclaimed Quebec filmmakers shooting feature films south of the border speaks to an unprecedented infatuation on Hollywood’s part with French-Canadian directors.
Among the heavy hitters: Jean-Marc Vallée (“Wild,” “The Dallas Buyers Club,” HBO’s upcoming “Big Little Lies”), Philippe Falardeau (“The Bleeder,” “The Good Lie”), Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” the forthcoming “Blade Runner” sequel), not to mention Xavier Dolan, who’s currently shooting his star-studded English-language debut, “The Death and Life of John F.
