The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (Sdgi) is honored to present the Foras Na Gaeilge Award to Irish director and producer Tom Collins in recognition for Outstanding Contribution in the Irish language in Film and TV. Love/Hate writer Stuart Carolan will present the award to Tom. Hailed for his Irish language films Kings (2007) and the award winning film Hush-a-Bye-Baby (1992), most recently Collins has had enormous success with the award-winning Irish noir crime drama An Bronntanas, which was adapted for a five part thriller series for TG4 that has now been picked up by French distributor Lagardère Entertainment. Directed by Collins and starring Dara Devaney (Na Cloigne), Owen McDonnell (Single Handed) and John Finn (Cold Case), An Bronntanas tells the story of the crew of a local independent lifeboat in Connemara who find over a million euro worth of drugs on an abandoned fishing boat. Bosnian war drama As If I Am Not There received three Ifta awards for Best Film, Director and Script for the film's Irish writer/director Juanita Wilson at tonight's Ifta awards, celebrating the Irish film and television industry.
Martin MCCann was named Best Actor for 'Swansong - Story of Occi Byrn', while Amy Huberman was got Best Actress for 'Rewind.'
Pierce Brosnan and Saorise Ronan took home the supporting honours at the awards with Brosnan winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'The Ghost', while Ronan's part in The Way Back earned her the supporting actress honour.
In the international categories, 'The Social Network' won the best international film, with its star Jesse Eisenberg winning Best Actor. Annette Bening took Best Actress for 'The Kids Are All Right'.

Principal photography on the new Irish language drama 'Corp is Anam' will wrap this Friday, July 16th, in Galway after an eight week shoot. The four x one hour TG4 series, starring Diarmuid de Faoite (Padraic) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors), tells the story of TV crime correspondent Cathal Mac Iarnáin, who determines to pursue the truth behind every story, regardless of its calamitous consequences. Written and directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire and produced for Galway-based Magamedia by Paddy Hayes (Éalú), 'Corp & Anam' was shot on the Red camera by Ruairí O'Brien (Five Minutes of Heaven) and will be edited in Furbo by Conall de Cléir (Na Cloigne).

Robert Quinn, the only Irish director involved with the fourth season of the sci-fi caper, 'Primeval' currently in production in Ireland recently spoke with Iftn from the set of the popular sci-fi series. Award winning director of programmes such as 'Na Cloigne', 'Seacht' and 'Rasai na Gaillimhe', Robert is currently in the process of shooting the 5th and 6th episode of the show's fourth series. Robert is one of the large Irish crew working on the series alongside new Irish cast members including Ifta nominee Ciarán McMenamin (Any Time Now, Hunger), Ruth Kearney (Shark City, Hard Boiled Eggs), Peter Hanley (Braveheart), Rory Keenan (The Guard) and Briain Gleeson (Single Handed).

The Oireachtas Media Awards, hosted by RTÉ's Aengus Mac Grianna, were held this week in Dublin's Framleigh House and saw the bestowal of awards on Irish media bodies who are seen to promote the Irish language, amongst them Irish newspaper Foinse, TV series 'Na Cloigne' and presenter Daithi O'Sé who was dubbed Gala Gael Star of the Year at the ceremony. The year's event saw the supernatural thriller, 'Na Cloigne' (The Heads), directed by Robert Quinn (Seacht) and produced by Ciarán Ó Cofaigh (An Teanga) for Rosg, win the award for Television Drama of the Year while Seó Spóirt, presented by former Kerry football captain, Dara Ó Cinnéide, won Television Programme of the Year.
