By far the least entertaining, as well as least informative, extra on the SMOKIN'S ACES 2: ASSASSIN'S BALL d.v.d., this 179-second waste of time totally eclipses what should have been former ELF stuntman Matt Phillips glorious moment in the sun. Billed in the feature as "Happy Clown," Matt's role involves have explosives strapped to his diminutive body by members of the implausible serial assassin Tremor family, and then being shot via clown cannon through the walls of a Chicago watering hole to explode like a toddler-sized hand grenade.
David Richmond-Peck, who plays FBI agent Dominic Dumare in the SA2 feature, speaks as himself in an aside to a "making of" cameraman here, stating "we're not real fond of clowns on this shoot, so today we're going to blow some of them up." In this post-9-11 world, that is so not funny, but also sooo 1970s, when a song like "Short People" actually got radio play. SMOKIN' ACES 2 tries so hard to be an equal-opportunity offender, it's not even funny. CUE THE CLOWN proves cast and crew have enough venom left over to make (heaven forbid!) about 117 more sequels.
