Cancelations suck, and the 2024 season has been particularly brutal.
Long-running favorites such as Station 19, Blue Bloods, and Young Sheldon are going off the air, leaving fans brokenhearted -- and actors out of a steady gig.
Sometimes, actors land a new gig right away, and other times, they struggle to find new work. The cancellations were recently announced, so not everyone has had the opportunity to move on to a new project yet, but there are some interesting things in the works.
Having a Long-Running Series is a Double-Edged Sword
When actors land a gig that lasts for half a decade or more, they're guaranteed work for as long as the series lasts.
That allows them to become household names but also can make it harder for them to get new jobs in the future. For example, Henry Winkler was so associated with The Fonz that when Happy Days ended,...

In interviews Tom Selleck has repeatedly said that despite the fact that he was a movie fan, he never dreamed of becoming an actor. It is known that in his teenage years the future actor devoted himself entirely to sports – basketball and athletics.
Tom Selleck Couldn't Even Dream of Becoming an Actor
Tom went to Los Angeles Valley College to live with his family and not spend extra money. During his junior year, Selleck transferred to the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship.
One of his teachers advised him to try his hand at acting, so Tom dropped out of college his senior year and threw himself into studying the basics of acting. At the time, he was also working as a model, which is how he got noticed.

It should be business as usual for the 2024-2025 season, with a mix of returning and new shows in the networks’ primetime lineup. As always, there are dramas, comedies, animated series, and unscripted shows filling the time slots. There are some changes. CBS once again has back-to-back NCIS shows, but it’s the new prequel Origins, taking over Hawai’i‘s timeslot following the spinoff’s cancellation. CBS is also going with what it knows works, with the Young Sheldon spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, taking over the franchise’s Thursday night slot. The network will also be airing the final episodes of Blue Bloods this fall. And Fox shocked fans by moving Family Guy to midseason for the first time since 2005. Scroll down for a look at the primetime schedule for fall 2024 (and keep checking back as this ...

Tom Selleck’s life is about to change. Blue Bloods will air its final episode sometime this fall after 14 seasons on the air.
Though the show’s cast has strongly hinted that they’d love to return for another season, CBS is holding firm in its decision to cancel the cop drama. That puts Selleck in a tough position financially, he admitted in a recent interview.

There have been a lot of tough cancelations this month for the 2024-25 television seasons. Networks canceled beloved shows with big ratings, including shockers like Blue Bloods. Other shows were canceled with smaller viewer numbers, but in what were still favorites.
One of the shows that ABC has canceled falls into the latter category. Some fans argue it is causing an even bigger lack of diversity in an already generic TV schedule.
ABC Cancels Popular Latino-Led Sitcom
In a disappointing move, ABC canceled one of its most popular sitcoms. The network has announced that they canceled Not Dead Yet after two seasons on the air. This is an interesting move since the sitcom was the most-watched comedy on ABC in four years. However, the numbers dropped in Season 2 and ABC pulled the plug.

Blue Bloods fans shouldn’t count on CBS changing its mind about the future of the cop drama. Last fall, the network announced that the show would end after a two-part 14th season. Despite hints from the cast that they’d be happy to see the series continue, there’s little chance that the cancellation will be reversed, an exec recently said.
‘Blue Bloods’ will get ‘the sendoff it deserves’
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach addressed the potential for Blue Bloods being un-canceled during a press conference on May 2.
“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” she said, according to Deadline. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”
However, unlike S.W.A.T., which got a surprise season 8 renewal after being canceled last fall, there’s no chance of an 11th-hour save for the Tom Selleck show.

Blue Bloods gets better and better. The closer this series gets to the end, the more heartbreaking it is that it's leaving the airwaves.
Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 9 featured an innocent man paying a steep price when Erin called out his lawyer's misconduct, Eddie dealing with a case that seemed to belong in an advice column, and Sean trying to handle the aftermath of a mugging on his own.
Even the Jamie/Joe story, which looked silly in the spoiler video, was must-see TV.
Danny's Story Was Exactly What I Expected
Almost all the predictions in the Blue Bloods Season 4 Episode 9 spoiler post about Sean and Danny were correct, but that's not because the writing was bad.
It was almost inevitable that Sean would feel he shouldn't have become a victim because he comes from a family of cops or wonder what Danny would have done.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 9, “Two of a Kind.”] Blue Bloods is one episode away from its Season 14 midseason finale, and the Friday, May 10, episode opted to end on a happy note with the Reagan family ahead of its upcoming break. The main plot of the episode focused on Danny’s (Donnie Wahlberg) son, Sean (Andrew Terraciano), who was robbed on his college campus. Danny was shocked to find out about the burglary (the assailant stole Sean’s backpack containing his wallet and laptop) at work instead of directly from his son. Sean was scared to admit that the guy got away instead of fending him off himself like his family of cops might. Naturally, Danny wanted his son protected, so he reminded him that stolen items are better than personal injury — or worse. Sean wanted to be a hero like his family members. When he witnessed a classmate being attacked...

In Tom Selleck’s recently released memoir, You Never Know (via Business Insider), he reveals how he gave the crew of Magnum P.I. bonuses of $1000 after the studio refused.
Tom Selleck was in the process of renegotiating his contract with CBS for what would be the eighth and final season of Magnum P.I. The studio had decreased the budget of the series, but Selleck wanted them to agree to an eight-day schedule as well as a bonus for the crew if they were able to deliver under budget. “The studio said yes to the eight days. But they responded that they could not under any circumstances talk about crew bonuses, that it would set a dangerous precedent,” Selleck said. “They always invoked precedent when you had an original thought beyond their contractual boilerplate. Honestly, that pissed me off.“

Law & Order is losing another veteran actor.
The NBC drama will bid farewell to star Camryn Manheim on May 16, the season 23 finale. The actress was a key part of the cast when Dick Wolf revived the flagship procedural for its 21st season.
Manheim becomes the second star to depart L&o this season with her upcoming exit coming on the heels of original star Sam Waterston, who exited in February as D.A. Jack McCoy. He had appeared in more than 400 episodes of the flagship series and returned to lead the revival that remains a high priority for both Wolf and NBC.
To fill the void created by Waterston’s exit, L&o recruited former Scandal favorite Tony Goldwyn to be the show’s new D.A. and join a cast that also includes Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mechad Brooks and Odelya Halevi.

Tom Selleck writes in his new memoir “You Never Know” (via Business Insider) that he personally gave the crew of “Magnum P.I.” bonuses for $1,000 when the studio refused to during contract negotiations for the CBS series’ eighth and final season. Selleck headlined “Magnum P.I.” in the title role for 162 episodes between 1980 and 1988, becoming one of the decade’s most iconic television stars. The actor admits in his memoir that he debated whether or not to continue the show for an eighth run because “I didn’t want anyone to think that last season was just a ploy to get more money.”
During contract negotiations, Selleck writes that he asked the studio to give the crew $1,000 bonuses as long as “Magnum P.I.” Season 8 came in under budget and on time. According to Selleck, the studio “responded that they could not under any circumstances talk about crew bonuses, that it would set a dangerous precedent.

Ever since CBS’s announcement of Blue Bloods’ cancellation in December 2023, Tom Selleck and, to a lesser extent, Donnie Wahlberg have been waging a two-man war against the network and its decision. Selleck, the on- and off-screen patriarch of Blue Bloods, has been especially vocal about it lately, urging the CBS management to “come to their senses” and openly claiming that the TV show is here to stay.
Tom Selleck Won’t Give Up on Blue Bloods
Despite the network’s seemingly set-in-stone decision, Tom Selleck refuses to lay down his arms. The star actor claims that Blue Bloods is designed to be a 15-season TV show, and he won’t rest until it’s made such. He believes they must keep going.
“[Blue Bloods is] a 15-season show. With the strike, we did a 10-episode season, just like everybody else. But then we kept shooting, and we’re shooting right now.

CBS has been “freshening” up its lineup by canceling some fan-favorite shows and replacing them with new versions, hoping fans will happily switch to the new shows. CBS canceled Blue Bloods to add more to the Fire Country franchise. It is also canceling NCIS: Hawai’i and replacing it with NCIS: Origins. Now, they are replacing CSI: Vegas as well.
Here is a look at what is coming next for the CSI franchise.
CBS Bringing New CSI Series To Summer Season
CBS announced several shows that they canceled and some were not only fan favorites but were also successful in the ratings. Things started out exciting when CBS brought back CSI: Vegas because it saw Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) return. However, they only lasted one season and the new cast had to carry the series.
After three seasons and 39 episodes, the ratings continued to be strong.

September 2024 will mark 14 full years since Blue Bloods premiered on CBS, so long that it's hard to imagine television without the show. However, much to the shock of fans and cast alike, CBS has not renewed the show for at least one more season.

It's always hard to say goodbye to shows that have been with us for over a decade. We literally become friends with the characters and love them as if they were family.
That's why it hit so hard when CBS announced that one of the longest-running police procedurals would be canceled after 14 years on the air.
Of course we are talking about Blue Bloods, a legendary show that premiered in 2010 and made the viewers fall in love with it. At the center of the story is the Reagan family with Tom Selleck’s Frank, the police commissioner of New York, being the head of it.
“My mother will probably sell the tv now. First Criminal Minds now this. The cancellation of an action packed formulated procedural dramas like this is a bridge too far. Not enough NCIS, FBI and Chicago to fill that void,” Redditor VeryLowIQIndividual said.

Is Jamie about to ruin his career?
Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 9 spoilers have him on the hotseat with Frank after a public fistfight with Joe Hill.
Both these guys should know better, but Jamie has more to lose, and neither one should be happy to land in Frank's office over something like this.
There has never been much love lost between Jaime and Joe, but Jamie is not usually the stereotypical macho cop who settles everything with his fists.
Still, Joe's pissed him off pretty badly in the past, and in a weird way, the guys beating each other up signals that Jamie sees Joe as a family -- he's treating his nephew like an annoying little brother.
Jamie Has a Lot To Lose
Jamie's been rising through the ranks since he reversed course about becoming a sergeant. He runs patrols and works in the Field Intelligence Office now.

NCIS: Hawai’i finished its run, but fans lashed out after the season finale. Because the showrunners had no idea CBS was going to cancel the show, they finished the season with a huge cliffhanger, and now it appears that fans will not get to see what happens with the team after this huge moment.

Tom Selleck is not happy that CBS announced it is canceling Blue Bloods. However, he has had some big things to say about the news as he talks about as possible return. The actor feels that there is more life in the series, and he points out the fan support as a reason why CBS is not being “sensible.”
Here is what Selleck had to say about his show’s future and what he feels should happen next.
Tom Selleck Wants Blue Bloods To Return For Another Season
Blue Bloods has been on CBS for 14 seasons. It started its run in 2010 and has been part of many television viewers’ lives for well over a decade. However, CBS announced that it was ending the series with the fourteenth season, which consisted of only 18 episodes. The first 10 ends on May 17 and the final eight will air on CBS from October 2024 to December 2024.

His nearly 60-year acting career started inauspiciously — with an Air Force training film — but Tom Selleck has soared since then. In a new memoir, You Never Know, the beloved Blue Bloods star looks back at his onscreen legacy. Below, we selected a few excerpts from this entertaining read. He was floored by meeting Farrah Fawcett As a young actor, Selleck booked a Western-themed 1972 commercial for Dubonnet, a wine product. His costar: Farrah Fawcett. I was introduced to my “leading lady.”It was her! I’d seen the Noxzema commercial, and it was her! Let me explain. Joe Namath did a shave-cream commercial where he gets his face caressed and is sung to by a beautiful young woman. How do I say this? I found her performance very impactful. I tried to have my grown-up-adult-been-there-before face on as she smiled, shook my hand, and said, “Hi, I’m Farrah.” Farrah couldn...

We are still dealing with the incredibly disappointing news that CBS has decided to cancel Blue Bloods for Season 14. Add to that the fact that the network has renewed another police procedural, S.W.A.T., after already announcing its cancellation, and the move seems completely unfair.
But unfortunately, the CBS execs are not even influenced by the pleas and demands of the cast and crew, as well as the viewers themselves, whose petition to save the show on Change.org has already gathered over 17,000 signatures.
Nevertheless, all this shows how much the audience's interest in the show has not waned, almost 14 years after its debut in 2010. But we should prepare ourselves for the fact that the story of the Irish Catholic Reagan family, long involved in law enforcement in New York City, will come to an end this December.
The main appeal of Blue Bloods is far from police investigations and ethical debates.

The End of an Era and a Ranch at Risk Tom Selleck’s long-standing portrayal as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods may be coming to an end, but the implications extend far beyond the screen. Danny Reagan has always been one of the most controversial Blue Bloods characters in many regards, loved just as much as hated. From his professional ethics and attitude to his self-inflicted solitude and private life, fans are strongly divided — and the most recent update on one of the show’s most anticipated couples has only added the fuel to the already devastating flame of arguments.

Focusing on the lives of the Reagan family, each character has their own unique strength and weakness to face as they battle the challenges associated with being a police officer, giving the drama an added edge over the plethora of other police-based TV shows.

Blue Bloods airs its final episodes this year following CBS‘ decision to cancel the long-running police procedural last November. However, the show’s star, Tom Selleck, still hopes the network will “come to their senses” and reverse the decision. In a new interview with CBS News, the Emmy-winning actor was asked if Blue Bloods was truly ending. “Well, that’s a good question. I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck answered. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he continued. “We’re winning the night. Ever since CBS announced Blue Bloods finale in Season 14 back in December 2023, both fans and actors have been growing increasingly frustrated. Fan petitions and demands, cast’s media campaigns and numerous statements, and much more — everything is being used in an attempt to achieve the ultimate goal: saving Blue Bloods from its arguably premature cancellation.

Blue Bloods continues to be one of the most consistently popular shows on CBS, and network executives are clearly pleased with its continued high ratings. But despite the best efforts of the cast and crew, who for 13 full years on the air have become a family no less tight-knit than the Reagans themselves, to renew the show, Season 14 will definitely and irrevocably be the show's last.
Unfortunately, not only the efforts of the Blue Bloods team, but even the desperate pleas and demands of the fans are unlikely to turn things around. This sounds rather ridiculous in the context that after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the release schedule is supposed to be freer than ever.
But CBS has other plans. Without further ado, let's find out why nothing will help Blue Bloods, including an active fan campaign supported by the cast members.

While procedurals like Blue Bloods or S.W.A.T. have been one of the top highlights of the week on CBS for years, and NBC has had all sorts of projects within the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises, the procedural drama 9-1-1 was one of the most-watched shows on Fox from 2018 to 2023.
The show then moved to ABC (which is also owned by Disney) starting in March 2024, and for nearly two months now, 9-1-1 has been posting very impressive ratings in its new home, which secured the show's renewal for a new eighth season in early April.
The fact that the show is generating so much traction is not just because its creators are television colossi Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. It's a fascinating drama that has viewers rooting for Los Angeles first responders as they navigate their personal and professional lives no less than the other aforementioned shows.

If you watch enough procedural dramas, you might believe that every partnership leads to romance. It happened to Richard Castle and Kate Beckett on Castle, Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan on Bones, and even Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon on The Mentalist. A slow-burning romance always makes for a good storyline.
CBS' Blue Bloods, which is now leading viewers to say goodbye to the Reagan family and everyone close to them, is no exception. Jamie Reagan and his wife, Eddie Janko, started out as business partners and ended up as a family. As good as their story was, fans don't want to see a rip-off.

Investigations of complex crimes, confrontations between a detective and the main villain, witty speeches at court hearings – all such scenes in TV series are very popular.
However, in the pursuit of entertainment, screenwriters often change the entire legal system, making monstrous mistakes that real lawyers can only smile about.

1. Family Dinners Every Week
A family dinner every week that no one misses and that is never interrupted by unforeseen circumstances? Really? We can't believe the screenwriters wanted us to consider it possible.

The most unrealistic storyline in the show probably belongs to Danny. He kills people in almost every episode, which...

Now, we have the official list of when each CBS show will air their finale. Some of these finales will be series finales, as the shows are ending. Others are just season finales.
Keep reading to find out when each season finale will air…

The Reagans are usually a tight-knit family, but their armor had some cracks.
Everyone was keeping secrets, and Frank learned that his high standards intimidated everyone he thought he was close with.
Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 8 offered some compelling storylines, but Frank's hurt feelings were the weakest.
Frank's conflicts with the Dream Team usually involve substantial disagreements related to policy. Frank usually wants to follow his values, while Garrett worries about optics. Sid wants to stand up for whichever cop is on the hot seat, even if Frank thinks the cop is wrong.
Frank's problem was personal this time despite his disguising it as a policy issue related to whether the office lets friends and relatives use their connection to their advantage.
Frank's feelings were hurt that Abigail didn't feel comfortable asking him about her husband's potential new job or her marital problems.
Frank: Why didn't Abigail tell me?
Garrett: Come on.
