Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) will star in Miss Austen, a new drama coming soon to Masterpiece on PBS. Hawes plays Cassandra, the sister of literary great Jane Austen, who infamously burned Jane’s letters after her death. But Miss Austen reimagines that tale as “a fascinating, witty and heartbreaking story of sisterly love,” per the official description.

If you want to easily make the merge in a modern-day Survivor season, all you have to do is recreate every puzzle the show has ever built and practice until your plane leaves for Fiji.
That’s how it all went down for Carson in Wednesday’s “earn the merge” episode, when the show’s repetition once again favored a player who was beyond prepared to play. No shade to Carson here — the kid obviously had the time and patience to study up. All hats are off to him, including Jeff Probst’s blue and orange caps. (Me? I prefer the orange one,...

Din Djarin and Grogu reunite in season three of The Mandalorian, which returns to Disney+ this Wednesday.
More than two years have passed since the Star Wars spinoff’s second season, which saw baby Grogu begin his Jedi training with Luke Skywalker (a de-aged CGI Mark Hamill), a path that would mean that he would never see the bounty hunter again. As seen in The Book of Boba Fett (which takes place between seasons two and three of The Mandalorian), the potential Padawan ends up choosing the way of the Mandalorian and returns to his adopted father, Din (played by Pedro Pascal).
Season three will see the duo explore the galaxy together as Din returns to the Mandalorian homeworld seeking “forgiveness for [his] transgressions,” referring to the Children...

Showtime is shaking up its executive ranks, with Gary Levine taking on the role of senior creative advisor for the premium network and Jana Winograde departing, studio boss Chris McCarthy announced today. Both formerly co-presidents of entertainment at Showtime, the news comes amid the company’s eventual rebranding and integration with Paramount+ later this year.
As co-presidents, both Levine and Winograde were responsible for developing and supervising all aspects of Showtime Networks programming across all genres, including comedy, drama, unscripted, documentaries and films. The latter exec was also in charge of the company’s production, program operations, business affairs, casting, scheduling, research and home entertainment, operating as liaison to ViacomCBS Global Distribution. Exclusive: Hat Trick Productions, the storied British production company behind Derry Girls and Have I Got News For You, is courting sale talks.
Co-founded by Jimmy Mulville in 1986, Hat Trick has been a bastion of truly independent UK producers but is now entertaining interest from groups including All3Media and Fremantle.
The company has not formally declared it is up for sale and has not engaged the services of an M&a broker, but Deadline hears that it has recently held promising conversations with potential suitors.
Mulville has toyed with the idea of selling in the past, most recently in 2018, when he compared the process to a real estate agent valuing a house. Four years on, sources said there had been a flurry of interest in Hat Trick amid the success of shows including bomb squad drama Trigger Point.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (Disney) fell 63 percent on its second weekend to dominate weekend box office with 67.3 million, representing nearly two thirds of the 101 million total. That’s a better hold than the two most recent Marvel releases.
“Wakanda Forever” now has a 10-day domestic total of 288 million (546 million worldwide), which is excellent by any measure. The film is likely to remain #1 through the Thanksgiving holiday and play through Christmas.
If there is a caveat, it is that the hold was not close to “Black Panther” in 2018, which dropped only 45 percent. Both openings were aided by holidays — the first one opened with President’s Day boosting its first Sunday, while Veteran’s Day helped opening day for “Wakanda.”
The new “Black Panther” and next month’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” are key to year-end results — but to an extent that is unfair to presume they can provide them. Pre-opening...

AMC is infusing new blood into old wounds. Its Interview with the Vampire series stays loyal to Anne Rice’s novels in spirit, but the flesh is weak. Some characters have aged, others are shifted in time. The origin story begins in 1910 New Orleans, and the demographic of the city, a century later than the book, is more accurately portrayed, even if some of the more delicate points are rounded up.
The 1973 San Francisco interview, which was the basis for the 1976 book, was conducted 50 years prior to the events of the series. Everyone has moved on, but the titular vampire calls Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), the formerly young journalist who conducted the half-century-old interviews, to Dubai for some refinements he’s sure will present a much more nuanced story.

The decision to shift Nicholas Hoult‘s performance in “The Great” from supporting to lead at the 2021 Golden Globes race has paid off! After exiting the supporting field in late December to compete in lead instead, Hoult has successfully made the jump from vying in supporting at the 2020 Emmys to earning his first ever Globes nomination in the same role as Best TV Comedy Actor.
The move pits Hoult against four other actors he did not have to consider competition until now and who, mostly, are already familiar with being a comedy lead winner. Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) won the Emmy in September, Ramy Youssef (“Ramy”) won this category last year, and Don Cheadle (“Black Monday”) was nominated here three times and won once for his work in “House of Lies.” Only Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) is with Hoult as a first-time nominee. Star Wars creator George Lucas has always come under fire for his work on the Prequel Trilogy. Though Episodes I-iii have undergone a major reappraisal in recent years, some old criticisms are still levelled at the movies. For one, there are numerous cringeworthy pieces of dialogue from the films that have become iconic with fans for all the wrong reasons, like Anakin’s sand speech in Attack of the Clones.
In a new behind-the-scenes book, though, Lucas has defended his writing and here’s what he had to say about it:
“It [the dialogue] is presented very honestly, it isn’t tongue-in-cheek at all, and it’s played to the hilt,” Lucas explained. “But it is consistent, not only with the rest of the movie, but with the overall Star Wars style. Most people don’t understand the style of Star Wars. They don’t get that there’s an underlying motif...

One of the best things about October is how every content provider gets infected with Halloween madness and succumbs to horror-centric programming. Some networks even curate a full 31 days of scary content to prove just how gung ho they are about this spooky holiday. At this point you’ve likely already made a checklist for all of the big horror films that are on the horizon and all of the older classics that you need to catch up on. However, if you’re still starved for even more horror-based content, then look no further than Crunchyroll and their catalogue of frightening anime.
Whether you’re a committed member of the anime streaming service or you’ve never checked out the site before, it’s likely that the service will have something that catches your eye. It can sometimes be rather overwhelming to sift through a whole collection of anime, especially...

Following on from Ewan McGregor’s recent comments reflecting on the legacy of the Star Wars prequels, fellow Force-wielder Liam Neeson has given his own thoughts on the matter. Neeson played Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn just the once in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but it appears to have left a lasting impression on him.
In a recent interview with Andy Cohen, the actor said that despite the negative reception the film received, he’s proud of it, stating:
“I know a lot of fans and critics didn’t like it. I’m proud of it.”
Re-evaluating the prequels is certainly in vogue at the moment. Could it be that when the coronavirus pandemic forced us all indoors, it led many to take a second to reflect on the past? There’s definitely been an increase in retrospection post-covid-19. The renewed interest could also be borne out of...

The name Kathleen Kennedy is enough to send some longtime Star Wars fans into a fit of rage, with the Lucasfilm President shouldering most of the criticism for Disney’s haphazard treatment of the beloved franchise. With the notable exception of The Mandalorian, it seems that not a single project set in a galaxy far, far away goes by without some kind of major incident or creative upheaval, and as the person calling the shots, the fingers of blame generally get pointed in her direction.
After all, there doesn’t seem to be any sort of coherence to the franchise’s Disney era, with the likes of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Josh Trank, Colin Trevorrow and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss all being given their marching orders, while Gareth Edwards was reportedly locked out of Rogue One‘s reshoots. Following that, the Anthology experiment was...

In case you hadn’t noticed by this point, Lucasfilm loves a Star Wars trilogy, although they’ve never come anywhere close to recapturing the magic of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
George Lucas’ prequels were widely criticized at the time, but even they look to be going through a reappraisal that seemed unimaginable up until recently, with the fanbase becoming more fractured than ever by the different but equally divisive response to both The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
The studio haven’t exactly given up on their fascination with trilogies, either, even though there are conflicting reports about whether or not Rian Johnson will ever get around to making his, while Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were fired or chose to walk away from developing three movies of their own, depending on who you believe.

This year the show explored the aftermath of that crash. Scroll down for our exclusive video interviews with top Emmy contenders from the show.

If you ask anyone, especially the internet, one of the greatest Emmy injustices is the fact that Steve Carell never won for “The Office” — and he still hasn’t won an Emmy at all. He accrued six Best Comedy Actor nominations for playing Michael Scott — who recently won The Ringer‘s Best TV Character of the Century bracket — and hasn’t been nominated, in any category, since his final bid in 2011. But he’s predicted to make a comeback this year, sitting in sixth place in our comedy actor odds for his upcoming Netflix series “Space Force.”
Obviously, a nomination after nine years — thus, another shot to win — is something to celebrate (Carell is also in 12th place in our Best Drama Actor odds for “The Morning Show”), but another comedy actor bid would bring the star’s total to an (un)lucky seven. If he doesn’t prevail, not...

Tamsin Greig stars in the new Epix limited series “Belgravia” from Emmy winner Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”). He adapted his 2016 best-selling novel about the rise of the Trenchard family in London society in the 1840s and the secret that could be their undoing. As Greig explains in our interview (watch the exclusive video above), she is at the center of the action as Anne Trenchard, a mother still mourning her daughter who died giving birth a quarter-century earlier.
