Entertaining but ridiculous

Warning: Spoilers
The episode was entertaining, but really difficult to believe.

Still, it has two highlights. A) Nolan doing well in the fight b) Wesley finally deciding to speak with his wife.

The rest? Ugh.

The neighbour was an obvious suspect, still apparently nobody investigated him, except for joking about how he was interested in Nolan's girlfriend. Then Nolan saw the mark in the back and decides to cross the street without looking for cars to do the important phone call.

Then, Wesley, decides to have a witness arrested to protect him, by making an "anonymous" call from the very same house of the target, and after leaving his own fingerprints in the weapon. All while the man knows he is in the house, so he can denounce him for planting evidence, if he wanted.

The wealthy housewives subplot was actually fun but it took time that should have been dedicated to the main story.

And then, the fight. The serial killer was stupid, ineffective and with storm trooper aim, not being able to shot a half-drugged Nolan. Also, Nolan rejects several weapons of opportunity in favor of what the plot said he needed to use. And even when he was escaping quite randomly, he appeared just near the car with the things he needed.

So, please, The Rookie, try to invest a little more in credibility. You can be interesting and credible at the same time!

"Alright, Mic Me Up" - Where's the Sign-Up Sheet?
SourCandyOrNoCandy18 May 2022
"Alright, mic me up. Let's get this over with." The music, the acting and the writing in that scene? Excellent.

Best parts of the episode?

  • I said it before and I'll say it again - the writers of The Rookie reallyyyy know how to write a villain. Marcus was such a well-written character. I really liked him once we found out who he actually was.

  • Chen and Bradford's mini undercover operation. The whole sequence of going from wealthy criminal to wealthy criminal was fascinating. Of courseee, I loved the "mic me up" scene.

  • I love it anytime Elijah calls Wesley "counsellor". I don't know what it is about how he says it, but is gets me every time.

Worst parts of the episode?

  • I don't know if it's because I saw another reviewing being suspicious of Bailey, but I was side-eyeing her this entire episode.

Miss the team vibe

Good episode. Nolan certainly went through it. The "housewives" storyline was great. Missing the rest of the crew in this episode. Love it when they're working more as a team.

One of the best

I love how it had 3 different storylines going on, with key characters holding their own. Definitely had some edgy parts, and some comic relief as usual.

A reminder!

I think this episode helped paint a picture of Nolan and reminded us that he's more than his age and is a very well trained cop! I loved that it showed how resourceful and tactical Nolan is and it also makes us worry for the main character too! I was sitting at the edge of my seat!

Mildly entertaining, but over the top.

Somebody do something about the Elijah Stone bad guy holding something over the lawyer. It's old and tired, not to mention unnecessary and boring.

The regular police stuff every week borders on ridiculous, but it's lively and fun,.

Totally rediculous

Whoever gave this episode the green light must've been so high they should not have come to work. Nothing believable whatsoever. A total embarrassment for this franchise. This was a slice of a B movie.

Ridiculous... utterly ridiculous episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Whoever thought of or choreographed the fight scene should be fired. I like this show but that was just stupid.

Have you ever heard of bringing a knife to a gun fight, well that applies to scissors too. Never mind a gun, but include a shotgun and topped off with a fully automatic, and you've broken the boundaries credibility. By the way, why do serial killers always know what you're thinking?

Stoopid Episode
BrassRingEdward16 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Love Nathan Fillion and by and large enjoy the show...but this episode actually had me turning it off and walking away to rest because it was so frustrating. I know that Hollywood tries to maintain the narrative that the average person is helpless. They discourage people from improvising weapons and if they do have a weapon they must drop it or somehow lose it within seconds. But to see Nolan, not just a now somewhat experienced "rookie" with police martial training (and years in the construction trades) pursued like a helpless B movie cheerleader by a hapless, "serial killer" after being caught "by surprise" buy a guy who he already suspected AFTER TURNING HIS BACK ON HIM...with a big frickin car, no less...was more than I could suspend disbelief for. It was like a weird video game where the guy ould upgrade from knife to pistol to shotgun......to full-auto machine pistol...c'mon! And Nolan just can't stop him at any point and passes by weapon after improvised weapon and misses too many opportunities to count to save his own bacon?

Yikes, guys...who wrote this swill? Oh, and Chen continues to be depicted as puerile, incompetent and unprofessional. #ChenIsAnIdiot.

Incredibly violent episode
kathi-2223615 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show usually has more story development than this. Some violence, yes, but this was over the top and not in a good way. It was just a nasty parody of a horror movie sequence with no real value to the storyline. We already knew what kind of sadist the killer was, so we didn't need half the episode dedicated to his violence.

The only redeeming parts of this episode were the escalating Real Housewives criminal element for comic relief, and the fact that Wesley is finally admitting he's in way over his head and needs help.

What a thoroughly unpleasant episode!
amorehl-93-9933815 November 2021
A saidistic killer acting sadistically towards the main star for the majority of the episode. Fun! The other half of the show is a sadistic criminal acting sadistically towards the public defender character. The latter sadism wasn't as bad because who doesn't think a guy who defends scumbags for a living deserves a little nasty treatment? Regardless, unpleasant from start to finish! And so far away from the reality of a cop show (or actual reality period) as to beggar belief. Hollywood writers have become total loons.
