- Insurance investigator William Byfield is found gassed in his car after he has sparred with Nikki over a claim for terminally-ill suicide Sally Craven. He was also perturbed about the suspicious death of one Stephen Connelly, which leads to Leo being accused of falsifying the post mortem by William's successor, Clare Ambler. In fact Connelly's details never reached Leo and his widow, bereavement counsellor Rebecca, is not only uncooperative with Clare but is Harry's current girl-friend and overly friendly with coroner's officer David Levin. When it appears that William Byfield was murdered Harry suspects Rebecca of being involved.—don @ minifie-1
- Nikki Alexander is shocked when she realizes that a man found dead in his car, an apparent suicide, is insurance investigator William Byfield. She had clashed with him only recently over whether the death of a woman was due to natural causes or an assisted suicide. Harry Cunningham takes over the case to avoid any suggestion of bias and finds the lab results do not support his conclusions. Byfield was good at his job and had also asked the coroner to look into the case of Stephen Connelly as the case notes seem incomplete. His successor on the file, Clare Ambler, now pursues Leo Dalton to find out what happened to the missing toxicology report. Leo is however unable to find any trace of Connelly's file, let alone a toxicology report and is soon under police investigation. Harry meanwhile begins to suspect a set-up as his new friend, Rebecca is Stephen Connelly's widow.—garykmcd
