Excellent retrospective documentary

This 27-minute retrospective documentary covers a good deal of interesting and informative ground on the making of the horror cult classic "The Stepfather." Writer Brian Garfield reveals that he got the idea for the premise from a man named John List, who managed to disappear and evade detection for almost two decades in the wake of murdering his family before he was finally caught through the TV series "America's Most Wanted." Director Joseph Rubin confesses that he hates slasher movies and was quite adamant that "The Stepfather" be more of a thriller than a basic slice'n'dice picture. Cinematographer John Lindley talks about how he was a last minute replacement for another cinematographer who was originally hired to shoot the film and had only three days to prep prior to the first day of shooting. Jill Schoelen points out that she did the bulk of her own stunts. Moreover, Rubin praises Terry O'Quinn for being an actor who just does it and happily reminisces on the shoot being a fun experience. Moreover, we also learn that it rained a lot throughout the filming of the movie, Shelley Hack was cast because of her stellar work in "The King of Comedy," and the original script had flashbacks showing that the stepfather was abused as a kid. Worth a watch for fans of the film.
