- Count Camillo Cavour was born in August 1810 in Turin to a wealthy aristocratic Piedmontese family. His most passionate interest was studying the problems of agriculture in Piedmont: he ran the family estate in Grinzane Castle.
- Count Camillo Benso is an icon today, and his reddish beard and unmistakable round spectacles have inspired countless films and television series. Count Camillo Benso was a man who defined our history. It would be impossible to describe every event in which he played a significant part in his brief yet active life in a short film only twenty minutes long. The scene is Turin in the mid Nineteenth Century, and Count Camillo, already a major politician by now, describes a defining moment in his life: his experience at the Grinzane estate. A flashback shows a young, carefree and ideological Cavour, a lover of fine food and beautiful women who, nonetheless, never lost sight of his precise goal, and of a more mature, reflective man. He was fully aware of the fact that he would soon be responsible for laying the first foundations of a Unified Italy.—Max Chicco
