Season Two Review
southdavid10 February 2022
When I reviewed the first season of the show, I said that after an awful start the second half of that season was better - but that it felt unnecessary and the whole story could just have been mixed in with the main show. Having now finished the second season and indeed the whole thing, I think it maintains the levels the first run ended at, but I'm baffled why someone thought this was a story worthy of spinning off.

Having agreed to go with the Civic Republic, Hope (Alexa Mansour) is reunited with her father. Via various methods, the rest of the group make it to the republics base too, mostly via an associated rural community that is on friendly terms with them. Once there, the band learn the horrible truth about Omaha and the campus they left behind and resolve to escape the CRM with the research. The CRM though are suspicious of the security on the base, and bring in a specialist to root out the agitators.

Again, I think quality wise this season is alright. There's none of the Y. A. "walking dead-lite" stuff that occurred in the first few episodes of the first season. Effects are good, deaths are good, plot at least makes sense. I still don't see why this has to exist as a separate entity to the main show though, particularly as - since the end of the Whisperers storyline - we've struggled to find forward momentum there too. This season does have a more direct tie in, with Jadis, played by Pollyanna McIntosh, reappearing and we discovered that she traded Rick for her entry into the CRM and has risen the ranks and is now quite high up. Her position at the end of the series is likely to pay back into the show, or spin off films, somehow. The post credits scene offers an interesting insight as to the state of the rest of the world, but again, nothing that couldn't have appeared in the main show.

As with the first season, I can't generate the sort of venom towards this as others can, but I do feel like I've rather wasted my time on a story that shouldn't have been separate.

Film-Extra29 November 2021
That was the last episode!? SO MANY CLIFFHANGERS!! Need more episodes! Can't end with that! Got AMC+ (70% discount right now) watched next week's episode of TWD: World Beyond the series finale! I know the show had a rough start and a lot of people don't like the addition to TWD Franchise but come on after that finale how could you not like it.

Very revealing episode!! We finally learn a truth about Rick! And big changes happening!!! One of the best episodes of the series!

Series finale balances the resolution of its character arcs with its role in the larger franchise narrative, offering a mix of satisfying conclusions and open-ended questions
fernandoschiavi10 May 2024
Frank Newton and a team of soldiers ambush Leo, Felix, Will and the scientists leading to a gunfight in which Leo and Will kill the CRM soldiers and Felix lures Frank away. After a brutal fight, Felix disembowels Frank and leaves him to be devoured by walkers. At the same time, the Endlings fight their way through the herd back to Dennis' outpost where Silas decides to stay and help Huck and Dennis. Iris, Hope and Elton manage to escape the area with the help of Indira and Asha, but Elton is bitten in the arm while protecting Hope, forcing him to undergo an amputation. After sending Silas and Dennis away, Huck fights Jadis who kills Huck, but learns too late that Huck has rigged up her father's watch as a makeshift timer on the C4. Jadis escapes as the gas is destroyed and she arrests Kublek for treason, blaming her for the CRM's failure.

With the CRM closing in on them, the mortally wounded Dennis has Silas kill him in order to convince the CRM that he was an unwilling participant. Silas accepts an offer from Jadis to join the CRM while secretly plotting to infiltrate the organization and warn the right people about the CRM's actions. After Elton recovers, he, Iris, Asha and a number of Indira's people make their way to Portland while Leo, Hope, Indira, the scientists and a now married Felix and Will remain behind to continue their research. In a post-credits scene, a French scientist is confronted by a man who accuses the woman and her colleagues of causing and worsening the outbreak. The man kills the scientist who becomes a faster, stronger and more aggressive kind of zombie while Dr. Edwin Jenner discusses the overseas variants in a video message in the background.

"The Last Light," the finale of Season 2 of "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," delivers a dramatic conclusion to its sprawling narrative, tying up loose ends while setting the stage for the broader universe of "The Walking Dead." This episode dives deep into the culmination of personal journeys and the overarching battle against the CRM, managing to provide both closure and new directions for the characters we've followed through intense trials.

The episode kicks off with an intense sequence as the group launches a daring final assault on the CRM facility. This action-packed opening sets the tone for the episode, blending high stakes with emotional payoffs. One of the most memorable scenes involves a dramatic showdown between Hope and Major Kublek, which underscores the complex dynamics of power, betrayal, and moral ambiguity that have been central to the series. The visual storytelling, combined with the score, amplifies the tension and the emotional weight of the confrontations.

Throughout "The Last Light," the themes of sacrifice, family, and redemption are explored in depth. As characters make critical choices about their futures and allegiances, the narrative probes the idea of what it means to be a leader and a protector in a broken world. The relationships among the main characters, particularly between the sisters Iris and Hope, reach a poignant resolution, highlighting their growth and the changes in their worldview from their experiences throughout the series.

In conclusion, "The Last Light" is a fitting end to "The Walking Dead: World Beyond." It skillfully balances the resolution of its character arcs with its role in the larger franchise narrative, offering a mix of satisfying conclusions and open-ended questions that leave the door open for future stories. The episode excels in its emotional depth, visual execution, and thematic exploration, making it a compelling watch not only for fans of the series but also for viewers interested in the moral complexities of surviving a post-apocalyptic world. The finale leaves a lasting impression, marking an end to a chapter and the potential beginning of new adventures in the "Walking Dead" universe.

Wow.

Warning: Spoilers
It was a 9 episode until the end, but that end was a 10/10. So the French actually received those Dr. Jenner videos, I suppose that was after their fall. So we have a new species of walker? A new variant of the virus? Pretty good, pretty interesting, the best end for a show that could be a lot better, but was not that bad, after all. And I actually wanted a season 3! Also, don't forget to change the main rating of the show, it really has improved in the last 5 episodes.

Two Months???

Warning: Spoilers
I was enjoying the show just fine, it was headed for what I thought was going to be an interesting conclusion.

However the opening of the final episode gave me pause. When the graphic says 2 months ago?

The idea that the entire series talked place over a scant two months took me out of the show. I'm sorry but that just completely wrecked the whole thing for me.

Excellent episode. The best of World Beyond by far.
tristan_1928 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is amazing. It went in unexpected ways, but managed to deliver a fitting end to all of the characters. Plus a good after-credits scene, leaving the room open for a new type of walkers and good stories to tell.

Felix has his showdown, so does Huck. Silas says goodbye to Dennis, and Elton saves Hope. The way the episode is written is meant to make the whole show come full circle. And boy do the characters have evolved and changed throughout their journey. By the end, Iris is headed to Portland, to warn folks, with the help of Asha and Elton. We also see Jadis taking full control by locking Elizabeth away. The writing is also good and the dialogue is emotional at the right places.

It was awesome to see Edwin Jenner at the end. And I kinda hope Elizabeth and our group will team up for the movies. But who knows ? We're now at a very interesting place, with our players placed all the way across the board, and Rick is still nowhere to be found, in the middle of it all. I'm excited. Bring the movies.

A series finale with some great action and powerful moments, but still held down by the show's cringy roots.
frankiesilver-9183623 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show finally comes to an end with an episode that jumps straight into the action.

The action was the best part of it too. Felix vs Frank, Huck vs Jadis, all really cool to watch. Seeing them try to escape while rigging the explosive was tense but I find it hard to believe they all got away. Except for Huck and Dennis of course. Two of the best characters on the show but it did feel like their time to go (would've loved to see Dennis survive though). Huck's final sacrifice was crazy but predictable.

And Dennis death was the saddest scene in the entire show. Forcing Silas to shoot him gave me Clementine flashbacks (from Telltale's TWD S1) and it was legitimately an amazingly done scene.

Jadis arresting Elizabeth was the other huge highlight. Literal chills during the scene.

Other than those moments and the action I really could've4 cared less for how the show ended. The emotional philosophical callbacks to their start was so cringy and them setting up base so close to the CRM is dumb.

I still would've preferred a full Rouge One style ending. Still, not a bad episode by any means and that insane (but totally unrelated) end credits scene has INSANE implications for the franchises future.

Great finale to get hype and interest for the movies
cthirlby28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
World beyond had a rough start then really picked up then dropped the banger of a finale on us. They killed a few people in really interesting and great fights almost like Star Wars duels which was cool and funny. The post credit scene and how the show ended was full circle back to season 1 of the main walking dead show which is some marvel type stuff and if they did this I have hope they know what they are doing and are able to make a big event with the films.

I was waiting will the very end to see Rick again but he never showed up. So yeah quite upset. I guess it was fine though... (Why's this gotta contain 150 characters I've seen shorter reviews.)

Ended like it started...100% underwhelming
grlym-468493 December 2021
In true fashion to this offshoot from the original, it has failed to start. I watched solely because of its name and the possibility that it factored in the other shows.

Nope, just 2 seasons of wasted time watching this crap

The show should have been called: The Walking Dead:Jumping the shark.

Started very very bad ended amazing
ubilstein7 December 2021
It is a mirical after the awful first season, that especially the second half of s2 turned it out. In my view Pollyanna McIntosh saved the show almost single-handedly because her acting is A++.

And that end credit scene is a game changer. Some will dislike it, which I understand, but after a billion seasons of WD I was enormously suprised, that they would tease radical new ideas.

My criticism would be some illogical/stupid stuff like the fight scenes or the time bomb made out of a watch.

WOW
meltingmel5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Alright. I have two "wow" moments here.

What is so funny is the Jadis character made a total Comeback. I really disliked her in TWD. I thought it was a poor story for her. But MAN - her character has been the best part of World Beyond and really made the last five episodes great. What a ride. What talent. I'm so glad she survived and to see her betray just the same as she did in TWD was awesome. I liked her references to Rick. Overall - I hope I see her again. She was fantastic.

The last wow? It's the obvious one. That cut scene at the end! WHOA!!! Just... WHOA!!! It was absolutely brilliant and I was not expecting it! And it makes total sense there would be variants of the virus across the world. That is just bad***. That cut scene right there has rekindled my love for TWD. They wouldn't show us that unless something would get addressed soon. We know people from France went to Toledo, Ohio. Which MEANS when they die - the states will see the new walkers. That is going to be NUTS.

The fast zombies were always more terrifying to me. So I'm bracing myself for madness.

more like The Walking Dud!
samcro696 December 2021
Wow! Just wow! The absolute worst finale I've ever seen! And I watched Dexter live people! I can't believe I actually sat through 20 episodes, 2 years of life wasted on the weakest writing & the worst character development I've ever seen. If this is what the TWD Universe has in store for us in the future, I'm out!

The series finale left me wanting more.
fredschaefer-406-6232046 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
THE WALKING DEAD: THE WORLD BEYOND, the limited series spin off of the original TWD, got off to a rocky start as diehard fans seemed to have trouble warming up to this show centered around some teenagers who had grown up in the wake to the Walker Apocalypse. The purpose of this series was to the expand the horizons of the Walking Dead universe beyond the scope of the two previous shows, and specifically deal with some questions not dealt with on those other shows, like what caused the dead to rise and devour the living in the first place, and how to combat the undead infection and give the human race a future. As always in the Walking Dead universe, the real theme was survival and cost of it. THE WORLD BEYOND took on these challenges on a big scale, with large consequences. I think some fans were more comfortable with down and gritty battles with Walker herds and despicable villains than teenagers on a quest, but as the show went on, it found its footing, especially in the second season when everyone had arrived at the Civic Republic, which compared to some of the communities on other shows, is a veritable paradise, but a paradise gained at a price. That was the dramatic conflict which confronted the show's young heroes in the second and final season, one I think the show runners and writers handled very well.

The series finale, "The Last Light," wrapped things up in a most satisfying manner, giving us some fitting payoffs with some characters, while leaving tantalizing hints as to where things go from here in the Walking Dead universe. Hope, Iris, Elton, and Silas managed to survive, though Elton does manage to lose an arm to a Walker. I liked these four protagonists from the beginning, they were easy to get invested in, and all had interesting arcs that left them at very different places by the final scene, which had Elton and Iris heading to Portland to warn them of the CRM's intentions, while Hope stayed behind to help their father in his research. The most interesting turn was from Silas, who ended up staying behind and infiltrating the CRM, but not before a heartbreaking scene where he has to kill the wounded Dennis (who has become the father figure the boy so badly needed) so the military won't think he was in on the plot to blow up the nerve gas supply being saved for Portland. All praise to young Hal Cumpston who really made Silas an underdog to root for; same for Nicolas Cantu, and the skinny and slight of build Elton (a name that fit him), who proved to be quite the hero. Huck finished her arc of redemption by destroying the nerve gas, dying a hero's death at the hands of Jadis after a fight to delay the discovery of her sabotage. You've got to love a series finale with two fights to the death in them, and the second, between Felix and Newton, was one of the best in any Walking Dead show, as it seemed to echo a duel between Jedi's, with the loser getting disemboweled and eaten. The MVP of this episode, and the second season, was Pollyanna McIntosh's Jadis, who had two great scenes proving what a formidable character the former Anne from THE WALKING DEAD, has become. One where she recruits Silas into the CRM even as she lets him know his story about turning on Dennis is false, and the other where she seemingly comes to console Julia Ormond's Elisabeth, and then reveals her true intentions. It all left me wanting more, which is how you end a series.

There were some disappointments at the end of THE WORLD BEYOND, mainly having to do with the fate of Rick Grimes, which was only alluded to by Jadis, clearly they are saving a lot for the proposed movies. There is a lot of speculation that Rick is really Bill/Beale. I was hoping that at this point, there would be more movement toward a real crossover between all three WALKING DEAD shows (the CRM vs the Commonwealth?), but we will just have to keep on waiting. I don't think all the lose plot threads from THE WORLD BEYOND will just be left dangling, and we will see Hope, Iris, Elton, Silas, Elisabeth, and Jadis again. I'm counting on it.

There was a mid credit scene (Dr. Jenner, it's been too long) which imparted some interesting clues on the origin of the Walker Apocalypse, and where things might go from here. The operative word is "variant." Haven't heard that mentioned enough lately.

This was a great show. Silas was my favorite character. Also I really liked Iris and huck. We find out a little more about Rick.

Don't worry Rick. I have a feeling Negan is coming to save you in the first movie.

THAT was the series finale?
merlin-905993 December 2021
SOOOOOO many questions left open. It's more like a (weak) season finale than a series finale. Really hope that TWD is going to be like, "just kidding, here's the REAL series finale"!!!! 😭

There was a whole lot of action and details provided in this episode. So much so that I'll need to watch it again to make sure I didn't miss anything. Really enjoyed the ending and can't wait to see the new TWD show and/or movie! I feel some new TWD action emerging very soon!

A dissapointing ending for all walking dead fans
panamenito28 November 2021
I found a good idea the new concept of the variant desease in the walkers as an improvement in the walking dead universe (good). However, I am VERY DISSAPOINTMENT without having any news of Rick´s whereabouts. Why do they cast Jeidis to this show knowing that she was the last person who saw him and dont mention at least where he is at? (TOO BAD)

Variants?
rmmil28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"VaRiANtS"?!

ReALLy? WHeRE hAVe I HEaRd tHAT WORD rECENTLY AnD nEVER BeFORe?

Impossible to come up with original ideas, aware that "slow zombies" were never scary, so let's just retcon the whole dang universe.

So impossibly stupid.

Let me give you a brief epidemiology lesson: Variants of a virus appear to help it spread more efficiently. Jenner established in the origin TWD season 1 that every person on the planet was already infected with the "walker" virus. There would be no variants, the virus "won" and infected everyone.

The only purpose of a variant is to infect more victims, silly screenwriters, stop using topical buzzwords to remain relevant.

Extra star for disemboweling scene
buzzpark17 March 2022
Without spoiling, there's an excellent combat scene with a disemboweling. Very well done lol.

However, why does Huck give a disarmed Anne a weapon so they can fight some more??

I'm telling you, it's not just the horrific acting by Aliya Royale, the writing in this episode leaves much to be desired.

Two stars out of 10 and not recommended.
