The movie develops a relationship between two girls, unaccountably young to drive cars but with enough money to do their own thing. There is a subtle but steady change in features of the relationship between these two friends: one showing a loyalty that is not unswerving, but is mostly 'give'; the other showing a reliance and is mostly 'take'. There is naturally a slight rebellion by the former, and the ending is unsatisfactory. Character studies in miniature occur when the girls visit an old teacher, and the disappointments that follow this visit are played out almost entirely wordlessly, showing some genuine acting ability by the young cast. Menace rears its head, but is incidental to the theme of these two going on a trip without the support of older friends, and mirrors reality --- which so many films do not. Not a showstopper, this, and it won't leave you in a cold sweat (or in a hot sweat, come to that), but a mild and gently film that shows this director has it in her to produce entertaining and thought-provoking movies that make few demands on the audience.
