- TriviaThe crew of Starbase 80 wear the style of combadges with the gold oval behind the delta emblem. At the time this episode is set, those badges were more than a decade out-of-date, in keeping with Starbase 80's reputation of deficiency.
- GoofsWhen the away team is being attacked on Brekka, Victoria is making an on-the-scene report with her floating camera drone. The Breen attackers disintegrate her drone just before they beam up. Once they're back aboard, the away team members all go straight to the bridge. Victoria exits the turbolift with a camera drone following her. She wouldn't have had enough time to replicate a new one, and she didn't appear to bring extras when she arrived.

[Admiral Buenamigo is discussing the Ceritos's new mission - Project Swing-by - with the department heads of the USS Ceritos]
Admiral Buenamigo: [via video comm link] The first Project Swing-by planet you'll be checking in on is Ornara.
Commander Jack Ransom: Ornara? Picard made first contact there, right?
Admiral Buenamigo: Yes, 17 years ago. So they're long overdue for some Starfleet attention. If this goes well, Swing-by missions will be assigned across the entire California-class.
Captain Carol Freeman: Then I'll make sure it goes better than well.
Admiral Buenamigo: I know you will. Which is why I have a journalist from FNN en route to the Ceritos. She'll be documenting your success as it happens. Buenamigo out.
[comm link ends]
Commander Jack Ransom: Congratulations, Captain. I think I speak for all of us when I say...
Captain Carol Freeman: [groan] This is terrible!
Lieutenant Shaxs: But you've been lobbying for Project Swing-by for years.
Captain Carol Freeman: Not that. The reporter. The ship's a mess. We have to clean it up before she gets here.
Commander Jack Ransom, Dr. T'Ana, Lieutenant Shaxs: [laughing]
Commander Jack Ransom: Clean it up.
Lieutenant Shaxs: Good one, captain.
Captain Carol Freeman: Why are you laughing?
Dr. T'Ana: Oh, shit. She's serious!
Captain Carol Freeman: Go get your departments in order now!
Dr. T'Ana: [terrified meow]
Commander Jack Ransom: Yes, captain!
Commander Jack Ransom, Dr. T'Ana, Lieutenant Shaxs: [All run out of conference room]

If this was a 2 part episode it would have been a little more interesting because it was obvious that Freeman was being set up, why would you send a second class Starship to revise some of the most dangerous missions? What would the California class ship do against a Borg cube?
Second thing is that the writers don't understand why Picard left the planets. They weren't part of the Federation! The Federation is not a donation charity! If you give planets what they want then they will never learn to do what is needed to make their own! If you're starving on a beach and I give you a fish each day then you are basically my slave. You don't know how to make a fishing pole and catch your own food! You rely on me to survive! I can make you do whatever I want for food! That is not kindness, that is abuse!
Lastly, someone tell me: does anyone think this episode makes sense with the the characters personalities? No! It's ridiculous. After a whole season of finally making Mariner a descent character with character flaws and a good arc, this garbage bag of a episode lands and turns Mariner into a saint and everyone else into hopeless morons.
Do they know what people walked away with after seeing this episode? They want the Cerritos to blow up into space dust! Why would anyone come back to this show?
